2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

2001: A Space Odyssey is a 1968 American epic science fiction film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick, and co-written by Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke. The film deals with thematic elements of human evolution, technology, artificial intelligence, and extraterrestrial life. It is notable for its scientific realism, pioneering special effects, ambiguous imagery that is open-ended to a point approaching surrealism, sound in place of traditional narrative techniques, and minimal use of dialogue.

The film has a memorable soundtrack—the result of the association that Kubrick made between the spinning motion of the satellites and the dancers of waltzes, which led him to use The Blue Danube waltz by Johann Strauss II, and the famous symphonic poem Also sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss, to portray the philosophical evolution of Man theorized in Nietzsche's work of the same name.

Despite initially receiving mixed reviews, 2001: A Space Odyssey is today recognized by many critics and audiences as one of the greatest films ever made; the 2002 Sight & Sound poll of critics ranked it among the top ten films of all time. In addition, in 2010 it was named the #1 greatest film ever made by The Moving Arts Film Journal. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, and received one for visual effects. In 1991, it was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.

A Single Man (2009)

A Single Man is a 2009 drama film based on the novel of the same name by Christopher Isherwood. It is the first film directed by Tom Ford. The film stars Colin Firth, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of George Falconer, a depressed gay British university professor living in Southern California in 1962.

The film premiered on September 11, 2009, at the 66th Venice International Film Festival and went on the film festival circuit. After it screened at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival, The Weinstein Company picked it up for distribution in the United States and Germany. An initial limited run in the United States commenced on December 11, 2009, to qualify it for the 82nd Academy Awards with a wider release in early 2010.

Taking place over the course of a single day, November 30, 1962, a month after the Cuban missile crisis, A Single Man is the story of George Falconer (Colin Firth), a middle-aged English college professor living in Los Angeles. George dreams that he encounters the body of his longtime partner, Jim (Matthew Goode), at the scene of the car accident that took Jim’s life eight months earlier. After awakening, George delivers a voiceover discussing the pain and depression he has endured since Jim’s death and his intention to commit suicide that evening.

George receives a phone call from his dearest friend, Charley (Julianne Moore), who projects lightheartedness despite her being equally miserable. George goes about his day putting his affairs in order and focusing on the beauty of isolated events, believing he is seeing things for the last time. Throughout, there are flashbacks to George and Jim’s sixteen-year-long relationship.

During the school day George comes into contact with a student, Kenny Potter (Nicholas Hoult), who shows interest in George and disregards conventional boundaries of student-professor discussion. George also forms an unexpected connection with a Spanish male prostitute, Carlos (Jon Kortajarena). That evening George meets Charley for dinner. Though they initially reminisce and amuse themselves by dancing, Charley’s desire for a deeper relationship with George and her failure to understand his relationship with Jim angers George.

George goes to a bar and discovers that Kenny has followed him. They get a round of drinks, go skinny dipping, and then return to George's house and continue drinking. George passes out and wakes up alone in bed with Kenny asleep in another room. George gets up and while watching Kenny discovers that he had fallen asleep holding George's gun, taken from the desktop, to keep George from committing suicide. George locks the gun away and in a closing voiceover explains how he has rediscovered the ability "to feel, rather than think". As he makes peace with his grief, George suffers a heart attack and dies.

Ali (2001)

Ali is a 2001 American biographical film directed by Michael Mann. The film tells the story of boxing icon Muhammad Ali, played by Will Smith, from 1964 to 1974 featuring his capture as of the heavyweight title from Sonny Liston (Michael Bentt), his conversion to Islam, criticism of the Vietnam War, banishment from boxing, his return to fight Joe Frazier (James Toney) in 1971, and, lastly, his reclaiming the title from George Foreman in the Rumble in the Jungle fight of 1974. It also discusses the great social and political upheaval in the United States following the assassinations of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr.

In 1964, a brash new pro boxer, fresh from his olympic gold medal victory, explodes on to the scene, Cassius Clay. Bold and outspoken, he cuts an entirely new image for African Americans in sport with his proud public self confidence and his unapologetic belief that he is the greatest boxer of all time. To his credit, he sets out to prove that with his highly agile and forceful style soon making him a formidable boxer who soon claims the heavyweight championship. His personal life is no less noteworthy with his allegiance to the Nation of Islam, his friendship with the controversial Malcolm X and his abandonment of his slave name in favour of Muhammad Ali stirring up controversy. Yet, at the top of his game, both Ali's personal and professional lives face the ultimate test with the military draft rules are changed, making him eligible for military induction during the Vietnam War. Despite the fact that he could easily agree to a sweetheart deal that would have meant an easy tour of duty for himself, Ali refuses to submit on principle to cooperate in what he believed was an unjust war for a racist nation that treated his people so poorly. The cost of that stand is high as he finds himself unable to legally box in his own country while his case is contested in court. What follows is a battle for a man who would sacrifice so much for what he believes in and a comeback that would cement his legend as one of the great sports figures of all time.

Arthur and the Invisibles (2007)

Arthur and the Invisibles (Arthur and the Minimoys in non-English-speaking territories — Arthur et les Minimoys in French-speaking countries) is a part-animated, part-live action feature film adaptation of the 2002 children's book Arthur et les minimoys / Arthur and the Minimoys, and the 2003 sequel Arthur et la cité interdite / Arthur and the Forbidden City, written by filmmaker Luc Besson, who also directed the film. It premiered in limited release in France on November 29, 2006, and received wide releases in a number of countries in the following weeks. In the United States, it opened on December 29, 2006, for one week in Los Angeles, California, with a wider release on January 12, 2007 and it was released in the United Kingdom on February 2, 2007. The film was MGM's first theatrically released animated film since 1996's All Dogs Go to Heaven 2. MGM's rights were dissolved when the movie hit theaters in December 29, 2006.

With a budget of €65,000,000, Arthur and the Invisibles was briefly the most expensive French film production until surpassed by Astérix at the Olympic Games.

In 1960, 10-year-old protagonist Arthur is living with his grandmother in a quiet country house. His grandfather Archibald has recently gone missing and he sees little of his parents. His grandmother entertains him by reading stories to him of his grandfather's adventures in Africa. One of these stories is about the friendship of the tall, Maasai-like tribe called the Bogo Matassalai with the Minimoys – tooth-sized, elfin beings they believe to be their counterparts. After Archibald had helped the Bogo Matassalai, says the story, they and the Minimoys had given him a large amount of rubies in a show of thanks for helping them. After returning home, Archibald brought the Minimoys with him and lent them his garden as their home. According to the story, he gave the Minimoys the rubies to look after them until he needed them. Arthur has become enamoured of a picture of Selenia, the princess of the Minimoys.

It's shown that Arthur's grandmother has been given a two-day deadline to pay a large sum of money to a building developer named Davido, who has bought her mortgage from the bank and plans to evict the two. Arthur therefore decides to find the rubies in order to pay off the debt. After stumbling across various clues written by his grandfather, Arthur finds the key to the Minimoys' world. He accidentally puts his grandmother into a deep sleep by dropping sleeping drops into her water and as she begins to snore, he continues. He is met in the garden by the Bogo Matassala, who show Arthur how to get into the Minimoys' world by shrinking down to their size and becoming a Minimoy himself. The Transformation alters his body giving him a big head with pointy ears, longer legs and arms, and spiky white hair. This is done by means of a telescope and the power of a shining full moon. When Arthur is underground with the Minimoys, he learns of a danger to the little people's future, posed by the plans of Maltazard, the leader of an army of mosquito-riding rebels named 'Seides' living in nearby "Necropolis", who plan to conquer the Minimoys by flooding their city. Maltazard is said to have been a Minimoy war hero corrupted by a seductive weevil, by whom he has a son called Darkos. After his corruption, Malthazar became a warlord known as the "Evil M", keeping Archibald as his prisoner and the rubies as his throne.

Arthur, reflecting his legendary British namesake, draws a sacred sword from its recess, which he then uses to protect his new friends from Malthazar's soldiers. The king gives permission for Arthur to travel to Necropolis, sending with him the princess Selenia and her younger brother. Armed with Arthur's new sword – the use of which they share – the trio embark. En route to Necropolis they are put in danger by Maltazard's soldiers numerous times. Arthur is dismayed to discover that the irrigation system of drinking straws he had made to water radishes for his grandmother is being cut apart by the soldiers, who are making plans to use them as water pipes for the coming flood. It is revealed that a flood would be especially devastating to the Minimoys due to the fact that the species cannot swim. During their travel Selenia reveals that at her age of 1000 (counted in the blossoming seasons of the royal flower, which corresponds to Arthur's), she must find a husband within two days. Over the course of the journey, Arthur comes to fall in love with Selenia, a fact she sees and uses to her advantage.

Eventually, the questors arrive in Necropolis, where the stubbornly independent Selenia takes the sword and leaves the others. Before doing so, she kisses Arthur, marking him as her husband and the future king. Selenia then confronts Maltazard alone. Maltazard wishes the first kiss of the princess to restore his original beauty; after learning she has already kissed Arthur and she can no longer give him her powers, he decides to kill her. She is captured and incarcerated in a cell where she finds her companions, who have also been seized.

In the back of the cell, they find Arthur's grandfather, who like Arthur has become a Minimoy altering his body the same way as Arthurs. He has been teaching his knowledge to Maltazard in exchange for food. Selenia feels defeated, but Arthur comforts her.

Maltazard allows them to escape 3 minutes ahead of the flood, which they do by using a clockwork car that Arthur possessed, in his human form, until Davido kicked it down the drain.

During the adventure, Arthur's crush on Selenia has been supplemented by comradeship, as well as by her own affection for him. When Arthur learns of a Minimoy custom stating that newlyweds should not kiss for the second time until after ten moons, Selenia decides she does not wish to wait and gives Arthur a long, passionate kiss before he returns to his human form. He now has an hour wherein to save the Minimoys from the flood. Archibald returns with him to the human world, and to human form, and is reunited with Arthur's grandmother.

With the help of a royal advisor's long-lost son, Milo, Arthur is able to find the pipe on the surface that goes straight down into Necropolis, when Milo signals him by directing sunlight into the ruby and out to the surface. Arthur redirects the flood to Necropolis by dropping a tennis ball down the pipe, which smashes the drinking straw pipes being used to direct the water and blocks the tunnel it was heading through. The Minimoys are saved from the flood; Necropolis is flooded instead. Maltazard abandons the plan, his army, and his son, and flees. The force of the water ejects the rubies and Miro.

Arthur and Archibald pay Davido with one ruby; he tries to take all, but the Bogo Matassalai capture him and give him to the authorities (scene deleted in the U.S. edition).

The story closes with the vows spoken by Arthur in his human form to Selenia, who sits high up on a branch in a tree, to wait patiently until the time is right for them to be together.

The ending credits then proceed, alongside scenes of every significant character (as well as the director, Luc Besson) appearing in Minimoy form to bow.

Arthur then prepares to see the Minimoys again to celebrate when his father, concerned for his safety due to bees, decides to take him and his mother back the city early. However, a spider delivers to Arthur a grain of rice with the message "help", which he believes must have come from the Minimoys, and makes it even more important for him to visit them. At a gas station Arthur escapes from the car and returns to his grandparents' house, switching places with the dog Alfred. However, Bogo Matassalai's attempt to transform him using a telescope fails due to clouds covering the full moon and has Arthur as them to apply an older, more dangerous alternative method, even though it may kill him. They agree. Arthur is wound into vines which are then pulled more and more tight. The procedure is successful and Arthur is transported downward in a drop of sap from the squeezed vines landing through the roof of Max's bar. Max explains to him what has happened since the last adventure and agrees to take him investigate the matter.

While en route to get information on the Mimoys' current condition, they Betameche being arrested. However, Selenia is revealed to be held hostage by Maltazard as he uses her to enter the city. The villain reveals that since the Necropolis being flooded, Maltazard ended up in the grandparents' house where he is inspired to take over the human world by taking advantage of the telescope. However, when Arthur's dad almost ruined the scheme, Maltazard sent the message to lure Arthur and is able to capture Selenia to force the Mininoys to allow him to leave. Though they manage to get Maltazard out of their kingdom with the telescope, they unknowingly enlarged him to human size as he intended. Furthermore, the telescope itself is destroyed in the process with Arthur trapped in his Mimoy size.

Almost Heroes (1998)

Almost Heroes is a 1998 comedy film starring Chris Farley and Matthew Perry. It is directed by Christopher Guest and narrated by his friend and frequent collaborator, Harry Shearer.

Leslie Edwards (Matthew Perry), a foppish, high-society aristocrat, and the loud, low-brow Bartholomew Hunt (Chris Farley) are competing against the renowned Lewis & Clark to be the first to chart and make it across the United States to the Pacific Ocean.

In the beginning, Edwards has high hopes to head the first expedition to make it across the U.S., but while he has ambition and funding, he has grown up sheltered and knows little of the wilderness he seeks to cross. To aid in his journey, he hires the services of a supposedly knowledgeable wilderness-man and tracker, Hunt, who, once they get underway, turns out to be less than advertised.

Aided by a crew of varied, rugged and gristled frontiersmen, they are also joined by their group's version of Sacagawea, a young Indian woman by the name Shaquinna (Lisa Barbuscia), who is integral in helping them find their way across the dangerous and unknown terrain ahead, as well as, eventually becoming Edwards' love interest.

Along the way, the group goes through various mishaps and ordeals from having to deal with quirky, indigenous Indian tribes to vicious eagles, to running out of food and romantic snafus, as Hunt's ineptness often causes more problems than it solves. Along the way, Edward and Hunt's shared journey helps Edwards shed his aristocratic, snooty ways and learns camaraderie and honor, as well as a more humble view of a world he thought he understood. Hunt finds true friendship in Edwards and a sense of self-confidence he had not known before.

After many hardships and setbacks, they eventually make it to the Pacific coast just minutes before Lewis and Clark's expedition. Once the celebration is over, however, they find that they don't necessarily want to go back to their old lives and collectively decide to continue their adventure, leading Edwards and Hunt's expedition to further explore the great uncharted world.

Awakenings (1990)

Awakenings is a 1990 American drama film based on Oliver Sacks's 1973 memoir Awakenings. It tells the true story of British neurologist Oliver Sacks, fictionalized as American Malcolm Sayer and portrayed by Robin Williams who, in 1969, discovers beneficial effects of the then-new drug L-Dopa. He administered it to catatonic patients who survived the 1917–28 epidemic of encephalitis lethargica. Leonard Lowe (played by Robert De Niro) and the rest of the patients were awakened after decades of catatonic state and have to deal with a new life in a new time.

Directed by Penny Marshall, the film was produced by Walter Parkes and Lawrence Lasker, who first encountered Sacks's book as undergraduates at Yale University and optioned it a few years later. Awakenings stars Robert De Niro, Robin Williams, John Heard, Ruth Nelson, Julie Kavner, Penelope Ann Miller, and Max Von Sydow. The film features a non-speaking cameo from jazz legend Dexter Gordon (who died before the film's release) who appears as a patient and then-unknowns Bradley Whitford, Peter Stormare, Vin Diesel, and Vincent Pastore play a doctor, neurochemist, hospital orderly and a psych-ward patient, respectively.

In 1969, Dr. Malcolm Sayer (Robin Williams) is a dedicated and caring physician at a local hospital in the New York City borough of The Bronx. After working extensively with the catatonic patients who survived the 1917-1928 epidemic of encephalitis lethargica, Sayer discovers certain stimuli will reach beyond the patients' respective catatonic states; actions such as catching a ball thrown at them, hearing familiar music, and experiencing human touch all have unique effects on particular patients and offer a glimpse into their worlds. Leonard Lowe (Robert De Niro) proves elusive in this regard, but Sayer soon discovers that Leonard is able to communicate with him by using a Ouija board.

After attending a lecture at a conference on the subject of the L-Dopa drug and its success with patients suffering from Parkinson's Disease, Sayer believes the drug may offer a breakthrough for his own group of patients. A trial run with Leonard Lowe yields astounding results as Leonard completely "awakens" from his catatonic state; this success inspires Sayer to ask for funding from donors so that all the catatonic patients can receive the L-Dopa medication and experience "awakenings" back to reality.

Meanwhile, Leonard is adjusting to his new life and becomes romantically interested in Paula (Penelope Ann Miller), the daughter of another hospital patient and begins spending time with her when she comes to the hospital to visit her father. Leonard also begins to chafe at the restrictions placed upon him as a patient of the hospital, desiring the freedom to come and go as he pleases and stirs up a bit of a revolt in the process of arguing his case repeatedly to Sayer and the hospital administration. Sayer notices that as Leonard grows more agitated battling administrators and staff about his perceived confinement, a number of facial and body tics are starting to manifest and Leonard has difficulty controlling them.

While Sayer and the hospital staff continue to delight in the success of L-Dopa with this group of patients, they soon find that it is a temporary measure. As the first to "awaken", Leonard is also the first to demonstrate the limited duration of this period of "awakening". Leonard's tics grow more and more prominent and he starts to shuffle more as he walks, and all of the patients are forced to witness what will eventually happen to them. He soon begins to suffer full body spasms and can hardly move. Leonard, however, puts up well with the pain, and asks Sayer to film him, in hopes that he would some day contribute to research that may eventually help others. Leonard acknowledges sadly what is happening to him and has a last lunch with Paula where he tells her he cannot see her anymore. Leonard and Dr. Sayer reconcile their differences, but Leonard returns to his catatonic state soon after. The other patients' fears are similarly realized as each eventually returns to catatonia no matter how much their L-Dopa dosages are increased.

Sayer tells a group of grant donors to the hospital that although the "awakening" did not last, another kind — one of learning to appreciate and live life — took place. The film ends with Sayer standing over the once again-catatonic Leonard behind a Ouija board, with his hands on Leonard's hands which man the planchette. "Let's begin." Sayer says.

Alfie (2004)

Alfie is a 2004 British/American comedy-drama film based on the 1966 British film of the same name, starring Jude Law as the title character, originally played by Michael Caine. The film was written, directed and produced by Charles Shyer.

The film opens up by introducing Alfie (Jude Law), a charismatic, charming, bed-hopping, Vespa-riding Cockney who resides in Manhattan. An impeccably stylish lad in his late twenties, Alfie funds his hedonistic lifestyle by working as a driver for the local limousine service. Meeting, romancing, and seducing women comes as second nature to Alfie. In addition to maintaining a casual relationship with a single mother named Julie (Marisa Tomei) that he refers to as his "semi-regular-quasi-sort-of-girlfriend thing", he also sleeps with various girls on the side, such as the married-yet-neglected-by-her-husband blonde named Dorie (Jane Krakowski) whom he regularly meets for sex after work in the back of his limo. At the first inkling Dorie may desire their liaison to grow into something more, he decides to stop all contact. Alfie ultimately views women as expendable, cutting them loose as soon as he feels they're starting to cramp his style.

Alfie's best friend, Marlon (Omar Epps), is also a limo driver in the same company. In addition to their friendship, the two are working on a plan that would eventually see them start their own business. However, for the moment, Marlon is preoccupied with trying to win back his ex-girlfriend, Lonette (Nia Long), who dumped him after he hesitated to commit, and is now, despite his desperate efforts, stubbornly unresponsive to his reconciliation attempts. At a loss for ideas, Marlon eventually turns to Alfie for help by having him put in a good word with Lonette. This takes place late one night following a closing shift in a bar where Lonette is waitressing. As the staff is closing up, Alfie is trying to persuade her to take Marlon back, however, the conversation soon goes in a different direction and eventually after a few drinks, they end up having passionate sex on the pool table. Alfie is so terrified about facing his friend in the event he ever gets the word of what happened, but is amazed and relieved to be told by jubilant Marlon that Lonette got back with him the very next day after her "conversation" with Alfie.

Around the same time, as he arrives to Julie's place looking for another booty call, Alfie is informed she no longer wants to see him since she found the proof of his infidelity (Dorie's red panties). He seems to take it all in stride with a smile on his face as he disappears down her street. Alfie soon gets another unpleasant piece of news, this time from Lonette: she is pregnant with his child. Without telling Marlon, the two of them visit a clinic in order for her to have an abortion. Soon afterwards, Marlon and Lonette unexpectedly move upstate without even saying goodbye to Alfie.

Alfie is then faced with an erectile problem that causes him plenty of embarrassment in front of his next few female conquests. Following repeated failures to achieve an erection with various women, he visits a doctor who performs an examination and reassures him there's nothing wrong physically that would stand in his way of achieving one, thus writing his erectile problems off to "probably stress". However, it's not all good news as the same doctor locates a lump, indicating a possibility of testicular cancer. Alfie immediately has a test run at the clinic and spends a few anxious days awaiting the results. During one of his trips to the hospital, Alfie meets an older man named Joe (Dick Latessa) in the clinic bathroom. After a brief conversation during which he reveals he's a widower, Joe imparts some life advice to depressed Alfie: "Find somebody to love, and live every day like it's your last". This is followed by him offering his card to Alfie "in case he wants someone to talk to". Soon afterwards, luckily, Alfie finds out he doesn't have cancer.

Alfie takes the whole erection episode followed by a mortal health scare to heart and decides that "aiming higher" in his love life will be his new resolution. To that end, he picks up a beautiful young woman named Nikki (Sienna Miller) before Christmas, and they quickly embark on a passionate but turbulent relationship against the winter holidays backdrop. Soon after moving in together, Alfie is not happy about having to endure Nikki's wild mood swings and reckless behavior that occur as a result of her decision to go off her medication. While beginning to distance himself emotionally from Nikki, he sets his sights on an older woman, Liz (Susan Sarandon), a sultry cosmetics mogul whom he meets in the company of an older man while driving them around. Although Alfie is clearly quite taken with her confident flair and high society ways, she, unlike many of the women in Alfie's life, seemingly displays no intent to move their relationship past the physical stage. Unsurprisingly, his infatuation with Liz serves as the final catalyst that leads to the end of his interest in Nikki, who soon moves out of his life.

Not long afterwards, a chance meeting with his ex Julie in a coffee shop renews his feelings for her. To his dismay, she's now happily involved with someone else, filling Alfie with feelings of regret over his years of thoughtless womanizing. A trip upstate to visit Marlon and his now-wife, Lonette, reveals that she never actually went through with the abortion opting instead to give birth to Alfie's child. Alfie also learns that Marlon accepted the baby and cares for it now as though it's his biological child, all of which leaves Alfie feeling horrible. Downcast and gloomy, Alfie digs up the number given to him by a man named Joe from the clinic bathroom and calls him up. Walking along the beach together, Joe imparts some words of encouragment to Alfie. He then turns to Liz for reassurance and comfort, but is crushed to discover that she has a new man in her life. Completely rattled, Alfie insists to know what her new boyfriend has that he doesn't, to which she, after some initial hesitation, simply states: "he's younger than you".

Shocked and dismayed by one blow after another, Alfie happens to run into Dorie. She walks by the docks late one night, but at this point he is more interested in a shoulder to lean on than sex. She, however, informs him she's moved on, and, though cordial and polite, generally lets him know she wants no part of him anymore. The film ends with Alfie's monologue in which he begins to question his shallow self-indulgent lifestyle.

Animal Kingdom (2010)

Animal Kingdom is a 2010 Australian crime drama written and directed by David Michôd, and starring Ben Mendelsohn, Joel Edgerton, Guy Pearce, Luke Ford, Sullivan Stapleton, Jacki Weaver and James Frecheville. Michôd's script was inspired by the Pettingill family of Melbourne, Australia, who in 1988 saw the acquital of Trevor Pettingill in the murder of two Victoria police officers. The film received several awards and nominations with Weaver receiving multiple awards for her performance, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

After his mother dies from an overdose of heroin, 17-year-old Joshua 'J' Cody asks his estranged grandmother, Janine 'Smurf' Cody, for advice about what he should do. She invites him to move in with her, and he accepts. She is the matriarch of a notorious Melbourne crime family, further consisting of her three sons. Her eldest son is an armed robber named Andrew 'Pope' Cody, and is in hiding from a group of renegade detectives. The middle brother, Craig, is a successful but volatile drug dealer, and youngest brother Darren follows the lead of his older brothers.

J's uncle Craig takes J for a drive and is insulted at a set of traffic lights by a man in a neighboring car. After handing J a handgun, Craig follows the man and his accomplice to an alley, where the car pulls up and the man gets out, attempting to provoke a fight between himself and Craig. Instead, Craig prompts J to get out of the car and scare off the assailant. Later, Pope's best friend and partner in crime Barry 'Baz' Brown goes to meet Pope at a shopping center claiming that he wishes to quit the robbery game and settle down with his family, suggesting that Pope join him and the pair take up stock investment. As Baz goes to leave, he is encountered by police. After telling the police that Pope has left, the police shoot Baz dead. Pope and Craig want revenge, and ask J to steal a car and bring it to the middle of a road. J complies, although they refuse to tell him the purpose. Two policemen are drawn to the scene, where they are ambushed and killed by Pope, Craig and Darren.

The next day, Pope, Darren and J are arrested and taken in for questioning where J meets Detective Senior Sergeant Nathan Leckie (who also leads the armed robbery squad), who takes interest in J's situation and seeks to relieve him from it. The three are later released from custody. Later, Craig has escaped to a friend's house in regional Victoria, where he finds that he is being monitored. Despite an escape attempt, police arrive and kill Craig as he runs away. Meanwhile, J is arrested by Sergeant Leckie for underage drinking and is taken to a hotel for temporary housing. There, Leckie proposes that J be moved to a more permanent witness protection. J turns down the offer.

The situation intensifies. While J is in police custody, Pope kills J's girlfriend, Nicky (Laura Wheelwright), as Darren watches because he incorrectly thought she had been talking to the police. This triggers the arrest of Pope and Darren, who are placed in jail. With Craig and Baz dead and Pope and Darren imprisoned, Smurf decides, "J needs to go," as he is the star witness in the murder case and indeed their armed robbery charges. Smurf uses her connections to procure J's address and organize a raid on that address where J will be shot and killed, but J escapes when he sees armed police heading for the building. J then returns to Smurf's house, saying, "I can't live like this," and that he wishes to help free Pope and Darren from jail. To do this, the family's lawyer sets up J's answers so that a hole can be formed in the case, forcing the release of the pair from prison. Directly following the court session, Leckie visits J, asking him if he had found his place in the world.

After Pope and Darren's release, J returns to Smurf's home asking to stay. After Smurf lets him in, J goes to greet Pope and Darren before going to his room. Pope enters and begins to talk to him, but is cut off when J shoots him in the head. In the final shot of the film, J returns to the living room to embrace Smurf.

Almost Famous (2000)

Almost Famous is a 2000 musical comedy-drama film written and directed by Cameron Crowe and telling the fictional story of a teenage journalist writing for Rolling Stone magazine while covering the fictitious rock band Stillwater (named for an eponymous actual band), and his efforts to get his first cover story published. The film is semi-autobiographical, as Crowe himself was a teenage writer for Rolling Stone.

The film is based on Crowe's experiences touring with rock bands Poco, The Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the real Stillwater. In a Rolling Stone article, he talks about how he lost his virginity, fell in love, and met his heroes, experiences that are shared by William, the main character in the film.

Despite failing to break even, the film received positive reviews and received four Oscar nominations, one of which led to an award to Crowe for his screenplay. It was also awarded the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. Roger Ebert hailed it the best film of the year. It also won two Golden Globes, for Best Picture and Kate Hudson won Best Supporting Actress.

In 1973, William Miller (Patrick Fugit) is a 15-year-old aspiring rock journalist. His protective mother, Elaine (Frances McDormand), wants him to become a lawyer. Shunned by his classmates, he writes for underground papers, sharing the love of rock music instilled in him through a gift of albums left behind by his sister, Anita (Zooey Deschanel), when she leaves home in disgust over Elaine's beliefs.

William listens to an interview with rock journalist Lester Bangs (Philip Seymour Hoffman). William has sent Bangs copies of his work, and Bangs gives William a $35 assignment to review a Black Sabbath concert which he considers his big break. Bangs advises William to be "honest and unmerciful," but fails to mention how to get into the show or meet the band. Without credentials, William cannot get into the San Diego Sports Arena. He meets a group of semi-groupies who call themselves "Band-Aids": Estrella Starr (Bijou Phillips), Polexia Aphrodisia (Anna Paquin), Sapphire (Fairuza Balk) and their leader, Penny Lane (Kate Hudson) whom he starts a conversation with. The Band-Aids get into the show but William is still barred from entry as the opening band, Stillwater, arrives. Initially reluctant to assist a journalist, they bring William backstage after he critiques Stillwater's work. The guitarist, Russell Hammond (Billy Crudup), takes a liking to William.

William is driven from San Diego to Hollywood by Penny to the "Riot House", the Hollywood Hyatt Hotel on Sunset Boulevard, to meet Stillwater. Penny serves as William's chauffeur, but only to get close to Russell, for whom she has genuine feelings and shares a past relationship. William is called by Ben Fong-Torres (Terry Chen), editor of Rolling Stone, who wants him to do a story for their magazine. Ben believes William is several years older than he really is, and William convinces Ben to let him go on the road with Stillwater to get a story. To this end, William rides with Stillwater and the Band-Aids aboard "Doris", the band's bus, promising to keep in contact with his mother. William desires to interview each member of Stillwater separately. However, William finds Russell's evasion of interviews increasingly frustrating. Russell receives an electric shock onstage in Phoenix, which infuriates their manager, Dick Roswell (Noah Taylor), causing them to abandon the show. In Topeka, Kansas, a t-shirt showing Russell in focus with the rest of the band out of focus sparks an argument between lead singer Jeff (Jason Lee) and Russell. Russell and William leave, going to a teenage house party so Russell can be with people who are "real". Tripping on LSD, Russell climbs onto the roof, screaming "I am a golden god!" and instructing William to write that his last words were "I'm on drugs!" before jumping into the pool. William calls Dick to make Russell to board the bus the morning after. In the following rest of the tour, William forms a strong bond with Penny and at one point loses his virginity to one of the Band-Aids.

A new manager, Dennis (Jimmy Fallon), comes on board, and it is revealed that Penny must leave the tour before New York City, where Leslie, Russell's ex-wife and current girlfriend, will join them. During a poker game, Russell allows Dick to sell the groupies to Humble Pie for $50 and a case of Heineken. When William tells Penny, she acts nonchalant but is devastated. Penny and Doris are left behind; Dennis has piled the band into a plane for more gigs. Penny goes to New York on her own, showing up as the band gathers in a restaurant with Leslie. As they celebrate making the cover of Rolling Stone, Dick forces Penny to leave as Leslie grows suspicious. William follows Penny back to her hotel to find her overdosed on quaaludes. While keeping her awake he confesses he loves her just before doctors arrive. The following day, Penny reveals her real name (Lady Goodman) to him, a secret she has told very few. Penny thanks William for saving her before returning home to San Diego.

Stillwater's plane is suddenly caught in a thunderstorm and dangerously loses altitude. With death apparently imminent, the group confesses their secrets and jealousies. During a quarrel, Penny is referred to as "that groupie." William defends Penny, reminding the band that they declared they were "in this for the fans," but Penny was their most adoring fan yet they discarded her. However, the plane emerges from the storm unharmed, leaving the band to ponder the changed atmosphere. William continues on to San Francisco to finish the story, parting ways with the band. Russell tells him to write whatever he wants. William submits an article but the Rolling Stone editors dismiss it as a "puff piece." Bangs advises him to be "honest and unmerciful." William rewrites the article, telling the truth. The Rolling Stone editors are eager to publish it until the fact checker reports that Russell has denied everything, making William look like a liar, and the story is dropped. Sitting dejected in the airport, William encounters his sister. Now a stewardess, she offers to take him anywhere; William chooses for them to return home in order for him to make Elaine reconcile with her.

Sapphire talks to Russell about Penny's attempted suicide. She reveals that William saved her life and chastises Russell for denying the truth William reported. Russell calls Penny and asks for her address so they can talk in person; she gives him William's address, and Russell, thinking the address is Penny's, enters the house to find Elaine. Learning who he is, she lets him see William. They reconcile and Russell reveals that he called Rolling Stone to tell them William's story is true. The film ends as Russell finally gives William an interview.

The end shows Stillwater happily back together again, and touring on their bus, while William, Anita, and Elaine are shown at the kitchen table having a pleasant meal together, apparently having gotten over all of the friction from before. Penny is shown at the airport on her way to Morocco like she promised.
[edit] Alternative versions

Along with the standard DVD version, Crowe compiled an alternate version called Almost Famous: Untitled, which was a compilation of both released footage and his favorite deleted scenes. Running for about 40 minutes longer than the theatrical release, Untitled was subtitled "The Bootleg Cut", with its packaging resembling a cheap seventies bootleg. A variant of Untitled is the basis of the network television version of Almost Famous.[citation needed] The film has been released in Region 2 territories on Blu-ray Disc in its Untitled form—these discs are region-free and will play in all Blu-ray players.[citation needed] The DVD also contains a deleted scene that shows William playing Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven (in its entirety) to his mother. The song itself is not included in the film, but the video has a watermark instructing viewers when to start the song.

Altitude (2010)

Altitude is a Canadian Lovecraftian horror direct-to-video film directed by Canadian comic book writer and artist Kaare Andrews. Anchor Bay Entertainment is set to distribute the film in North America, U.K., Australia, and New Zealand. Altitude was filmed in part in Langley, British Columbia. The trailer for Altitude premiered at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con.

The movie opens on a small plane. On board are a family of three (two parents and a child, later revealed as Bruce) and a pilot (Sara's mother). The child is extremely nervous and starts hyperventilating. Looking for the source of his discomfort, the passengers and pilot see an out-of-control plane. The two planes collide and crash.

Years later Sara (Jessica Lowndes), who has recently received her pilots license, is planning to fly with her friends Sal (Jake Weary) and Mel (Julianna Guill), her cousin Cory (Ryan Donowho) and her boyfriend Bruce Parker (Landon Liboiron) to a concert. Meeting at the airport, Cory reveals his feelings for Mel. When they have all arrived they prepare to board the plane, despite Bruce, who is clearly very nervous. We are shown a bolt on the tail of the plane that is coming loose. In the air, Bruce's nerves draw ridicule from the other passengers, and Sara invites him to fly the plane. Sal, wanting to borrow a comic from Bruce, disturbs control of the plane, and when they hit some turbulence Bruce loses control, taking them into a steep climb. Sara tries to regain control of the plane, but a bolt has fallen loose and jammed the elevator.

Still climbing, they fly into a storm and lose all radio contact. Sara tells her passengers that with the elevator jammed, they will keep climbing until they either run out of fuel or reach the aircraft's altitude ceiling. She tells them they have less than an hour's worth of fuel left, and this causes Bruce to have a panic attack. Sal, a wrestler, puts him to sleep with a choke hold. In an effort to save fuel, they throw as much of their stuff as they can spare overboard. Sara tells them the only way to unjam the tail is to climb outside the plane and manually remove the obstacle. Cory, who has experience as a climber, volunteers. He has brought climbing gear with him, and has a rope for an anchor. Sal is asked to tie the rope to something, but Cory criticizes his knot-tying. Sal wraps the rope around himself instead, and just before Cory climbs out of the plane, Mel kisses and comforts him. After some difficulty, Cory makes it to the tail and removes the bolt that was jamming it. Cory is trying to climb back to the cabin, and Sal and Mel are helping to pull him, when Sal catches sight of a horrifying shape. Losing control of the rope, Cory slips and Sal is pulled out of the plane. Panicked, Sal cuts the rope, and Cory falls. Sal makes it back to safety. In the shock and tears that follow, Sal tells Mel what he saw.

When Bruce wakes he has been tied up, and asks what has happened. Seeing the cut (not broken) end of the rope, Mel accuses Sal of killing Cory. Bruce asks what has happened and they tell him that Cory fixed the tail, and Sal says he was grabbed by something. Sal believes there is a monster outside the plane. When Bruce asks when he'll be untied, Sara tells him that they cannot trust him. Sara tells him he completely lost it, and that she now knows he lied to her about his parents death. She tells Mel to take control, while she goes into the back to speak to Bruce. He confesses he was in the plane crash that killed her mother (that we saw in the opening scene). He survived the crash that killed his parents and her mother. She asks why he is called Bruce Parker, not Taylor, and he explains Parker is his foster-name.

Sara realizes that Bruce has long known her, and who she is. He accuses her mother of killing his parents and ruining his life, and tells her that they were destined to be together. She leaves him in the back, to try and find help on the radio, and hears a strange noise. Sal says he recognizes it as the monster that took Cory. After some confusion and argument, the plane crashes into the monster's open mouth.

Mel, distraught, faints. Sal tries to revive her, and when he can't assumes she has overdosed on motion sickness pills. Bruce frees himself and revives her using CPR. Bruce looks at a page of his comic which shows a blond woman being grabbed by tentacles. Immediately following, a large tentacle grabs Mel. Bruce starts flicking through the comic book, as if he has discovered something. Sal threatens to kill Bruce for causing Mel's death. Sal tries to throw Bruce from the plane, but Sara intervenes and in the ensuing confusion Sal falls out the door. Sara catches his hand and manages to hold him for a moment, but he slips from her fingers.

Bruce tells Sara he is causing all this; that his mind is recreating the comic book, something that happens when he gets very scared. The creature starts attacking the plane, and Sara demands that Bruce prove he is doing it by ending it all. His attempts just make things worse, until Sara kisses him, and everything calms. However, when she attempts to use the radio again, he realizes that she only kissed him to calm him, and the turmoil returns. Sara tries to calm him once more, but is grabbed by the monster. She tells him that if he can do all this, then he can bring his parents back. After a struggle, the monster suddenly disappears and she falls back into the plane.

As they fly out of the storm, they see a plane heading straight for them: the plane seen at the start of the film, carrying Bruce and his parents, and Sara's mother. They manage to take control of their plane, and so don't crash into the other.

We are now shown the altered past, in which Sara's mother and Bruce's family have arrived at their destination intact. Sara's mother says "everybody gets one near miss, right?", and Bruce's mom asks "do you think they made it?" to which Sara's mother replies "I hope so." The young Sara and Bruce are introduced to one another, and the film ends with them holding hands and looking out into the sky.

August Rush (2007)

August Rush is a 2007 drama film directed by Kirsten Sheridan and written by Paul Castro, Nick Castle, and James V. Hart, and produced by Richard Barton Lewis.

Set in 1995, Lyla Novacek (Keri Russel) is a cellist in an orchestra under strict rule of her father (William Sadler). Louis Connelly (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is the lead singer of The Connelly Brothers. Lyla and Louis have a chance meeting during a party and sleep together while a man plays his harmonica down on the street. Lyla returns to her angered father and head back to Chicago, finding that she is now pregnant with Louis's son. After an argument with her father, she runs out into the street and is struck by a car. She gives birth prematurely and her father quickly puts her son up for adoption. Louis continues waiting for Lyla in New York and eventually gives up.

Eleven years later, Evan (Freddie Highmore) is living in an orphanage outside of the city. Evan has the ability to hear music wherever he is. He meets with Richard Jefferies, a social worker (Terrence Howard) who gives Evan his card, and Evan soon runs away to New York City to find his family.

Louis now lives in San Francisco and has since left his band. He meets one of his former bandmates and is invited to his birthday party. Louis is hesitant because he has not spoken to his brother Marshall (Alex O'Loughlin) since the fallout, and he ultimately chooses to go. At the party though, his brother plays clips of the band performing, Louis confronts his brother, resulting in a mini-fight and his girlfriend (who was not aware he was a musician) breaks up with him and leaves.

Lyla lives in Chicago and also gave up music. Her friend encourages her to rejoin the Symphony, but Lyla rejects. She is called to her father's deathbed and he admits to her that he put the child up for adoption and is somewhere in New York.

Meanwhile, Evan is taken in by Wizard (Robin Williams), a homeless musician who believes in his art. Evan tries playing the guitar, and is so good that Wizard gives him his old spot in Central Park and his guitar, which he beforehand gave to Arthur (Leon Thomas III). The old theatre they are living in is raided by the police. Wizard distracts them and allows Evan (who is now called August Rush) to escape. He takes refuge in a church where the kindly pastor (Mykelti Williamson) notices his gift and enrolls August in Juilliard School.

Lyla is also in New York, deciding to participate in the Symphony as well as look for her lost son. Richard, who was also looking for Evan, helps her identify her child and posts a bulletin for his finding.

Louis, upon looking through old items, decides to reconnect with Lyla and flies out to Chicago to find her. He waits for several hours and when he asks one of the occupants of her apartment where Lyla was, the woman mistakes Lyla for her friend and says she's on her honeymoon in New York. Louis decides to go to New York anyway and perform with his old band.

August proves himself at Juilliard and is even given his own performance at the same Symphony that Lyla is performing in. But Wizard intrudes during a rehearsal and pulls August out of the school and puts him back on the streets performing for him. August also meets Louis, who is wandering through the park and they play together. August tells him of his dilemma and Louis tells him to do what he wants to do.

It is now the day of the Symphony and Louis's comeback to singing. August is still not being allowed to attend the event. August decides to leave Wizard and go anyway, with some help from Arthur, who also rebels against Wizard. August flees through the subway system and towards the Symphony.

Louis is heading towards the airport when he notices Lyla's name on a banner for the Symphony. He exits his vehicle and begins running towards the park. August arrives in time to perform his rhapsody and so does Richard (who discovers Evan and August are the same person). Lyla begins walking away from the park, but is attracted back towards the event. Louis arrives at the park and spots Lyla amongst the crowd and reunites with Lyla. August finishes his rhapsody and looks down and smiles at Lyla and Louis, realizing that they are his parents. Wizard is last seen playing his harmonica in the subway. The film concludes with August saying "The music is all around us, all you have to do is listen."

Absolute Power (1997)

Absolute Power is a 1997 American political thriller produced and directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Eastwood as a thief who witnesses a murder. The screenplay by William Goldman is based on the 1996 novel of the same name written by David Baldacci. It was screened out of competition at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival.[1]

The film also stars Gene Hackman, Ed Harris, Judy Davis, Laura Linney, Dennis Haysbert and Scott Glenn. It was the last screen appearance of E.G. Marshall.

The story describes a conflict that arises after Luther Whitney (Clint Eastwood), a master jewel thief, witnesses Secret Service agents killing Christy (Melora Hardin), the beautiful young wife of elderly billionaire Walter Sullivan (E.G. Marshall), during her drunken rendezvous with Alan Richmond (Gene Hackman), the President of the United States. Sullivan is Richmond's friend and financial supporter, and Richmond is a known philanderer. Luther has a daughter, Kate (Laura Linney), who works as a prosecutor and has been estranged from him for years.

Luther breaks into Sullivan's mansion while the Sullivan family is on vacation, but Christy and Richmond interrupt him as he robs the house, Christy having asked her family to go without her. Luther hides behind a one-way mirror and watches as they begin a sexual encounter. When Richmond, who is a sadist, slaps Christy and tries to strangle her, she attacks him with a letter opener; Richmond yells for help, and Secret Service agents Bill Burton (Scott Glenn) and Tim Collin (Dennis Haysbert) shoot her to death. They and Chief of Staff Gloria Russell (Judy Davis) then make the scene appear as if a burglar killed her. Luther escapes with some valuables and the bloody letter opener, but the Secret Service becomes aware of him.

Detective Seth Frank (Ed Harris) investigates the crime. Luther quickly becomes a prime suspect in the burglary, but Frank does not believe he murdered Christy. As Luther is about to flee the country, he sees Richmond on television, vowing to find the murderer, and incensed by this hypocrisy, he decides to bring Richmond to justice. Meanwhile, Burton asks Frank to keep him informed about the case while a Secret Service agent bugs Frank's office telephone.

Kate takes Frank to Luther's town house to search for clues. Photographs of her indicate that Luther has secretly been watching her as she grew up, but she still suspects him of killing Christy, so she agrees to Frank's request that she meet with Luther. Frank guarantees Luther's safety, but Burton learns about the plan through the wiretap, and someone alerts Sullivan, who hires a hitman (Richard Jenkins) to kill Luther. At the meeting, Collin and Sullivan's sniper try to shoot Luther, but they both miss, and Luther escapes through the police cordon by posing as a police officer. Frank takes Kate back to her apartment. After he leaves, Luther comes out of hiding in the apartment, explains to Kate how Christy was killed, and leaves.

Luther taunts Russell by sending her a photograph of the letter opener and tricking her into wearing Christy's necklace in public. Correctly suspecting that Kate knows the truth, Richmond orders Collin and Burton to kill her. When Frank tells Luther that the Secret Service has taken over surveillance of Kate, Luther races back to DC to protect her. He arrives at her jogging area just moments after Collin pushes her and her car off a cliff. Collin tries to kill her again at the hospital, but Luther stops him and injects him with poison.

After learning from Frank that Sullivan gave no reason why Christy stayed home (she had claimed to her husband - and to him only - that she was sick), Luther incapacitates Sullivan's chauffeur and drives Sullivan around Washington, telling him what happened on the night of the murder and explaining that Richmond incriminated himself in a speech by citing Christy's excuse for staying home, which he could only have learned from her. Luther gives Sullivan the letter opener and drops him off outside the White House, and Sullivan sneaks the letter opener into Richmond's office.

Meanwhile, alerted by Luther that his phones are bugged, Frank goes to Burton's office. In remorse for the attempt on Kate, Burton has committed suicide and left evidence, which Frank uses to arrest Russell. Later, on the television news, Sullivan claims that the President committed suicide by stabbing himself to death. It is unrevealed whether Sullivan himself stabbed Richmond or if Richmond indeed committed suicide so as to avoid punishment for his crimes. The film ends as Luther watches Kate in her hospital room. After Frank visits briefly, Luther suggests to Kate that she invite Frank to dinner and draws a sketch of Kate.

There are a number of cameo appearances including Steven Spielberg, Kevin Spacey, Britney Spears, Quincy Jones, Tom Cruise, Danny DeVito, Katie Couric, Gwyneth Paltrow, John Travolta, Nathan Lane, and The Osbournes.

In a self-parody of the Austin Powers series, there is a film within the film in the opening. Austin Powers is featured in a bio-pic called Austinpussy (a parody of the James Bond film Octopussy) directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Cruise as Austin Powers, Gwyneth Paltrow as Dixie Normous, Kevin Spacey as Dr. Evil, Danny DeVito as Mini-Me, and John Travolta as Goldmember.

Goldmember is a loose parody of the James Bond films, Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice, also incorporating elements of The Spy Who Loved Me, Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun and GoldenEye. The film took in approximately $296.6 million from movie tickets worldwide.

In 2002 in a new lair behind the famous Hollywood sign, Dr. Evil outlines his newest plan to his minions: he will go back in time to 1975 and bring back Johan van der Smut, aka "Goldmember", who developed a cold fusion unit for a tractor beam. He intends to use the tractor beam to pull a meteor into the Earth to strike the polar ice caps and cause global flooding. However, moments after revealing this plan Austin Powers and the British Secret Service attack and arrest Dr. Evil. Austin is knighted for his services, but is disappointed when his father, the famous super-spy Nigel Powers, fails to attend the event. At a party to celebrate his knighthood he sings a song with the band Ming Tea and later meets two Japanese twins named Fook Mi and Fook Yu and is about to have a threesome with them when Basil Exposition informs Austin that his father has been kidnapped, the only clue that the crew of his yacht have had their genitalia painted gold.

In search of answers, Austin visits the imprisoned Dr. Evil, who tells him that Goldmember is behind the abduction. Traveling to 1975, Austin infiltrates Goldmember's roller disco club Studio 69 and meets up with Foxxy Cleopatra (Beyoncé Knowles), an old flame and FBI agent. With Foxxy's help Austin locates his father but is unable to rescue him, Goldmember taking him through a time machine into 2002. In 2002, Dr. Evil and Mini-Me instigate a riot in their prison, allowing them to escape. A British Intelligence mole named Number 3 (Fred Savage), who coincidentally has a large mole on his face, informs Austin that the doctor has moved to a new lair near Tokyo - a giant submarine shaped like Dr. Evil. Austin and Foxxy fly to Tokyo and confront one of Dr. Evil's henchman, Fat Bastard, now a sumo wrestler. Fat Bastard tells them that a Japanese business man, Mr. Roboto, is working on a device for Dr. Evil and Goldmember.

Austin and Foxxy meet with Mr. Roboto, who pleads ignorance about Nigel's whereabouts. Unconvinced, Austin and Foxxy infiltrate Roboto's factory where the command unit for the tractor beam is being loaded in Goldmember's car, and Roboto hands Goldmember a golden key needed to activate the beam. Foxxy confronts Goldmember while Austin attempts to free Nigel, but Goldmember escapes with the command unit and flees to Dr. Evil's sub. Unable to settle their differences, Nigel and Austin part ways when they disagree on how to deal with the situation. Meanwhile, Dr Evil's son, Scott Evil, has become increasingly evil in an attempt to prove himself to his father, to the point that he too is going bald. Scott presents his father with sharks with laser beams, a request that had gone unfulfilled in the first film. Dr. Evil replaces Mini-Me with Scott as his favored son; the rejected Mini-Me defects and joins Austin.

Austin, Foxxy and Mini-Me infiltrate the sub, but Austin and Mini-Me are captured. Dr. Evil prepares to active the tractor beam, but Foxxy has stolen the key and frees Austin and Mini-Me. Austin prepares to shoot Dr. Evil, when Nigel appears and reveals Dr. Evil and Austin are brothers, separated when they were toddlers when an assassination attempt killed their mother, and Dr. Evil was found and raised by Belgians. Dr. Evil and Austin embrace, when Goldmember commandeers the tractor beam's controls, unzipping his pants to reveal his gold-covered genitals to be a spare key. Goldmember activates the tractor beam, but Austin and Dr. Evil work together to reverse it's polarity, destroying the meteor and saving the world. The heroes arrest Goldmember, who turns to the camera to reveal the entire string of events was adapted into a film by Steven Spielberg, starring Tom Cruise as Austin, Kevin Spacey as Dr Evil, Danny DeVito as Mini-Me, and John Travolta as Goldmember. Austin, Foxxy, Dr. Evil, Mini-Me and Nigel are in the audience of a Hollywood theater watching the film. Upon exiting the theater they bump into Fat Bastard, now normal size thanks to the Subway diet. As Austin and Foxxy kiss, in Dr. Evil's Hollywood lair Scott - now bald and dressing and laughing in a manner similar to his father - declares he will get his revenge on Austin and begins dancing like the singer Michael Jackson.

Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London (2004)

Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London is the sequel to the 2003 film Agent Cody Banks, and was released in the United States on March 12, 2004. Frankie Muniz was the only major returning star, with Hannah Spearritt now playing the love interest and Anthony Anderson as the sidekick. The film takes place in London with Cody trying to recover a stolen software activating the government's mind control project.

The film grossed US$28,818,995 worldwide. Muniz has stated that he will not do a third installment.

Rogue CIA agent Victor Diaz (Keith Allen) has stolen a top secret mind-control device and Agent Cody Banks (Frankie Muniz) has to go undercover in London to get it back. Posing as a student at an elite boarding school registered in the summer music program to get close to his suspects, Cody has to keep the other kids from discovering his true identity while infiltrating covert hideouts, spying on his sinister target—and going to class. With new gadgets and a wisecracking new handler named Derek (Anderson), Cody has to retrieve the device before the world's leaders fall under Diaz's control.

Cody's cover is blown and he learns Emily (Hannah Spearritt), a member of the orchestra he has a crush on, is actually a British secret agent. As Emily is busy buying them hot cocoa, Cody is attacked, and put under the mind control chip. He is saved however by Emily and Derek, when Emily tells Derek that Cody's under the chip's control, and Derek (who's an excellent cook) figures out how much Mentos (which is actually a saliva activated bomb) to use to dislodge the chip. In the end Diaz and his accomplice, Lord Kentworth, get Derek and most of the world leaders under control with the help of the director of the CIA, who is under mind control. Cody reveals the truth to the orchestra about his identity and tells them to keep performing to prevent the world leaders from leaving and going to a G7 conference in Buckingham Palace. The orchestra is forced to put on an impromptu performance of War (which is a major hit with the crowd) but is able to hold the crowd there long enough for Cody to stop the antagonists. Derek nearly kills Cody, but Emily saves him and releases Derek from the mind control. Emily also frees the President while Cody and Derek free the CIA Director. Cody goes one on one against Diaz in the Queen's gift room and defeats him while Kentworth tries to escape and is stopped by his apparently senile butler. Cody, Derek, Emily and the orchestra are thanked for their work and its revealed that the butler was in fact Emily's handler undercover. While saying good-bye Cody and Emily kiss on the cheek. Cody returns to the secret agent training camp that he was supposed to be at that Diaz used to run and Derek is given control of it as a reward for his work. Cody's parents pick him up at the end of the summer, none the wiser about his adventures. Cody's younger brother tries to eat a few of his explosive Mentos, but Cody tosses them into the pond where they explode harmlessly.
