The Other Guys (2010)

The Other Guys is a 2010 action comedy film directed and co-written by Adam McKay, starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, and featuring Dwayne Johnson, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, Eva Mendes, Steve Coogan, and Ray Stevenson.[3] This film is the fourth collaboration between Ferrell and McKay, following Anchorman (2004), Talladega Nights (2006), and Step Brothers (2008). The film is one of a number which deals with the financial crisis of 2008 such as the Oscar winning Inside Job.

Nerdy detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) is a forensic accountant who is more interested in paperwork than hitting the streets. Tough detective Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) has been stuck with Allen as his partner ever since he shot Derek Jeter during the World Series. Allen and Hoitz often receive no respect from the other officers, namely detectives Martin (Rob Riggle) and Fosse (Damon Wayans, Jr.). Allen and all the policemen at the precinct (except Terry) idolize cocky detectives Chris Danson (Dwayne Johnson) and P.K. Highsmith (Samuel L. Jackson), who are considered the city's best policemen even though they frequently cause millions of dollars in property damage catching criminals. During a pursuit of a group of jewelry robbers, Danson and Highsmith die in a spectacular fall, and that leaves almost everyone wondering who's next to fill their shoes.

Allen and Terry begin to investigate a scaffolding permit violation by multi-billionaire David Ershon (Steve Coogan), but wind up uncovering a much bigger plot by Ershon to cover his losses to his client Lendl Global. Lendl CEO Pamela Boardman (Anne Heche) hires a team of mercenaries led by Roger Wesley (Ray Stevenson) to make sure Ershon pays her back, and to make sure no one stops him from doing so.

During their investigation, Allen confides in Terry about his college life running a dating service under the guise of "Gator," adamantly refuting Terry's accusation that he was a pimp. When his life spiraled out of control, he was sent to the hospital where he met his wife Sheila, and he promised Sheila that he would never get out of control again. However, when having dinner one night with Sheila, she tells Allen that she's pregnant, causing Allen's old dark personality to re-emerge and she kicks him out of the house. Meanwhile, Terry tries and fails to reconnect with his ex-fiance Francine (Lindsay Sloane), who walked out on him due to his reckless behavior.

Their investigation comes to a halt when Ershon's attorney learns of his plan to cover his losses, leading Wesley to kill him and make it look like a suicide. Mauch splits up Allen and Terry, sending Terry to traffic and Allen to patrol. Allen still tries to solve the crime on his own and after learning that the jewelry robbery that Danson and Highsmith died over was staged so that Wesley and his team could break into an accounting firm next door, he finally gets credible evidence and earns his gun back. Allen then convinces Terry to rejoin him.

They meet Gene where the police captain admits he has been holding off on the case because Ershon has high-profile connections that could ruin Mauch, and he allows them to finish the case off-the-books. They go to an investment meeting Ershon is having and realize that the $32 billion Ershon seeks is really coming from the New York Police retirement fund. They escape with Ershon to his private apartment, and Ershon tells them that the money for the pension fund is already in his account, ready to be transferred.

In the morning, they drive to the bank to stop the transfer, evading Wesley's team, groups of Chechen and Nigerian investors to whom Ershon owes money, and police officers who are told Allen and Terry have gone rogue. They reach the bank and halt the transfer, but Wesley arrives and shoots both officers. Mauch finally arrives with police backup, rescuing the two and arresting Ershon and Wesley. Ershon's arrest leads to a stock market crash and the subsequent federal bailout of Lendl. Wesley is charged with the murder of Ershon's attorney. Terry gets married to Francine, although he is infatuated with Sheila.

The narrator finishes off stating that the true heroes are the ones who make the world a better place, not the ones who appear in the newspaper or on TV. The ending credits are accompanied by a series of visual displays of the magnitudes, methods, and principal actors of various licit and illicit financial doings of the financial crisis, such as the Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme or the Troubled Asset Relief Program.

The Special Relationship (2010)

The Special Relationship is a 2010 American-British political film directed by Richard Loncraine from a screenplay by Peter Morgan. It is the third film in Morgan's informal "Blair trilogy", which dramatizes the political career of British Prime Minister Tony Blair (1997–2007), following The Deal (2003) and The Queen (2006), both directed by Stephen Frears.
The first drafts of The Special Relationship dealt with Blair's special relationships with U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. However, Morgan excluded the Bush scenes from subsequent drafts (thus ending the narrative on January 20, 2001) because he found the Blair/Clinton dynamic more interesting. Morgan intended to make his directorial debut with the film but backed out a month before filming began and was replaced by Loncraine. The film was produced by Rainmark Films and backed by HBO Films and BBC Films.
The film stars Michael Sheen as Blair, Dennis Quaid as Clinton, Hope Davis as Hillary Clinton, and Helen McCrory as Cherie Blair. Principal photography on locations in and around London, England ran from July 20 to September 4, 2009. The film was broadcast on HBO in the United States and Canada on May 29, 2010, and was broadcast on BBC Two and BBC HD in the United Kingdom on September 18, 2010.

Ong Bak 3 (2010)

Ong-Bak 3 is a 2010 Thai martial arts film starring Tony Jaa. It is a direct sequel to Ong Bak 2 and a prequel to Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior.

The film opens on Tien (Tony Jaa) sleeping with a torture collar around his head and arms. He is awoken by guards who splash him with water, before removing the collar. Tien then has chains wrapped around his forearms, and is tortured with Kendo sticks struck across his body, and choked with bamboo. After he attempts to flee, he is further restrained, and on the orders of Lord Rajasena, his elbows and knees are snapped, before he is further beaten bloody.
As Lord Rajasena experiences nightmares because of a curse that has been placed on him, Tien's guerilla fighters attempt to retrieve Tien, but the Crow Ghost (Dan Chupong) appears and kills them. Lord Rajasena then offers to hire the Crow Ghost, but Crow Ghost refuses his offer and counters with an offer to remove the curse upon Rajasena. Rajasena orders his men to decapitate Tien, but before this can be carried out, a man arrives with a message on paper indicating that he will take the corpse, much to Rajasena's ire. The messenger returns Tien's corpse to the Kana Khone villagers, where Pim and Mhen are present. The village is then attacked, but the invaders are repelled, and the corpse preserved. Feeling guilty over what happened to Tien, Master Bua shaves his head and becomes a Buddhist monk.
Pim recreates a sculpture of the Ong Bak head, and brings Tien back to life through reincarnation, though Tien, still crippled from his beating and requiring a cane to walk, decides to commit suicide for his failure to avenge his father, but is dissuaded by Mhen. Tien then embarks on a rehabilitation regimen with the help of Master Bua.
Rajasena visits the Crow at his dilapidated temple in an attempt to remove his curse, but the Crow reveals that his true motive is to usurp Rajasena and claim his power as King. When Rajasena tries to kill the Crow, the Crow laughs and ejects him from the temple, and then dispatches Rajasena's guards as well, before decapitating Rajasena. Rajasena's severed head curses the Crow with a miserable fate, but the Crow, now king, merely smiles.
As Tien meditates, he is ambushed by Rajasena's guards, but defeats them. He returns to his village to find it in ruins, and the surviving villagers kidnapped and enslaved by the Crow, including Pim. The Crow then uses his dark magic to summon an eclipse. When Pim reveals herself as Tien's companion, she is taken to Crow's palace by his guards, and as Tien, who has arrived on the palace atop a large statue, watches, her throat is cut.
Enraged, Tien fights his way through the guards, slaughtering them, before confronting the Crow, who launches a spear at Tien's chest. As he falls to his knees, defeated, he remembers Master Bua's words, and finds himself again atop the statue, revealing his and Pim's deaths to have been an illusion caused by the Crow's magic. Lightning then strikes the Crow as the eclipse is dispelled, dispatching the guards. The Crow attempts to flee, but is confronted by Tien. The Crow attempts again to throw a spear at Tien, who, understanding not to react as he did in the illusion, catches it easily, and throws it aside. He then attacks the Crow, fatally impaling him on an elephant tusk.
Tien and Pim return to the village, where they and the rest of the village pray before the head of Ong Bak.

Ong bak 2 (2009)

Ong Bak 2 (องค์บาก 2) is a 2008 Thai martial arts film co-directed by and starring Tony Jaa. It is a follow-up to Jaa's 2003 breakout film Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior. Initially claimed to be a sequel to Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior, Ong Bak 2 was then announced to be a prequel to its predecessor. Unlike its predecessor however, which had a contemporary and realistic setting, Ong Bak 2 is actually set in 15th century Thailand and as such, could be described as a historical epic with elements of fantasy combined, and has nothing to do with the original Ong-Bak. Ong Bak 2 also has nothing to do with Jaa's 2005 film Tom-Yum-Goong, which was sometimes incorrectly labelled Ong Bak 2 in the West, as well as The Protector and The Warrior King. Tom-Yum-Goong had a contemporary setting similar to Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior, although it too had different characters and plot. Jaa's films have yet to tie into each other, although Jaa has claimed they will do so with the release of Ong Bak 3 in 2010. As well as the different historical setting to Jaa's previous films, Ong Bak 2 has taken a notably grittier and bloodier direction.
The plot of Ong Bak 2 revolves around Tien (Jaa), the son of Lord Sihadecho, a murdered nobleman in old Siam. As a spirited and unyielding youth, Tien resists savage slave traders and, moments from death, is rescued by a man known as Chernang. Chernang is a renowned warrior and leader of the Pha Beek Khrut, a group of pirates/guerilla fighters, and Chernang realizes unsurpassed physical potential in the young Tien and takes Tien under his wing. The Pha Beek Khrut are a group of expert martial artists specialising in combat styles from all over Asia, and Tien is trained to unify these different fighting systems, and grows into the most dangerous man alive. As Tien becomes a young man he goes on a lone mission of vengeance against the vicious slave traders who enslaved him as a youth, and also the treacherous warlord who murdered his father, Lord Rajasena, who has an entire army protecting him.

Please Give (2010)

Please Give is a 2010 comedy-drama film written and directed by Nicole Holofcener and starring Catherine Keener. This is the fourth film that Keener and Holofcener have made together. The film also stars Amanda Peet, Oliver Platt, Rebecca Hall, Kevin Corrigan, and Ann Guilbert.

Kate (Catherine Keener) and Alex (Oliver Platt) are a couple living in a New York City apartment with their teenage daughter Abby (Sarah Steele). Kate and Alex own a furniture store specializing in used modern furniture, which they buy at estate sales. They have bought the apartment adjacent to theirs, but its occupant, the elderly and cranky Andra (Ann Guilbert), will stay in it until she dies. Andra has two granddaughters, the dutiful and generous Rebecca (Rebecca Hall), a breast cancer radiology technician, and the self-centered Mary (Amanda Peet), a cosmetologist.
Kate is conflicted about the profits she makes from furniture sellers who do not know the value of what they are selling; by the contrast between homeless people in her neighborhood and her own comfortable life; and by the fact that her family will only be able to expand their apartment when Andra dies. She tries, unsuccessfully, to assuage her guilt through volunteer jobs (which leave her weeping) and donations to homeless individuals (which sometimes backfire).

When in Rome (2010)

When in Rome is a 2010 American romantic comedy film directed by Mark Steven Johnson, co-written by Johnson, David Diamond and David Weissman, and starring Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel. It premiered in the United States on January 29, 2010.

A successful and single Guggenheim art curator Beth (Kristen Bell) is at a point in her life where love seems like a luxury she just can't afford. Years of waiting for the perfect romance has made Beth bitter. One day, she flies to Rome to attend her younger sister Joan's (Alexis Dziena) impulsive wedding. She meets Nicholas Beamon (Josh Duhamel), who rescues her in a couple of difficult situations but is just as much of a clumsy clod as she is. They hit it off well and reach a point where both parties take an interest in the other.
Just as Beth convinces herself to believe in love again, she sees Nick kissing another woman, who turns out to be the groom's (Luca Calvani) 'crazy cousin'. Slightly drunk, she picks up coins (a poker chip, a rare coin, a penny, a quarter and a Euro) from the "fountain of love" (probably based on the Trevi Fountain). She later learns from Joan that legend says, if you take coins from the fountain, the owner of the coin will fall in love with you. She has to return the coins to the fountain to break the spell, but is tied up at work with an important gala that her demanding boss, Celeste (Anjelica Huston) has pressured her into taking care of.
She is pursued back to New York by a band of aggressive suitors whose coins she took, including a diminutive sausage magnate (Danny DeVito), lanky street magician Lance (Jon Heder), a doting painter (Will Arnett), and a narcissistic male model (Dax Shepard). As she falls in love with Nick, she realizes that the poker chip belongs to Nick and is convinced that Nick is merely under a spell, not truly in love with her.
Joan calls Beth on the day of the gala and informs her that the spell can also be broken by returning the coins to the original owner. Stacey (Kate Micucci), Beth's secretary--who is highly concerned about Beth's miserable love life--overhears the conversation and steals the coins, believing that Beth would lead a better life with people loving her, regardless of the spell.
Beth's suitors all show up together at her apartment and she decides to break it to them that she does not love them and plans to return them the coins. After she blurts out her love for Nick to them, she realizes that Stacey has stolen the coins and goes on a mission to retrieve the coins with her suitors aiding her.
When Beth explains to Stacey that this is not the way she believes love is, Stacey returns the coins and Beth hands back the coins to their owners. Left with the poker chip, she calls Nick and thanks him for making her believe in love again. As Nick makes his way to the gala to search for Beth in a sudden lightning storm that hits New York, Beth is in a situation with Lance who plays with the poker chip by doing disappearing tricks. She accidentally hits the chip out of Lance's hands and chases it as it rolls down three floors of the spiral gallery.
The chip is picked up by Nick, who appears to be in love with Beth still, convincing Beth that his love was true all along. However, on their wedding day in Rome, Lance reveals to Beth that he had multiple poker chips and the one Beth knocked out on the night of the lightning storm was just one of them, which proves that Nick did not break out of the spell. While exchanging wedding vows, Beth hesitates and dashes out of the building to everyone's surprise. She revisits the fountain of love where she originally picked up the coins and climbs in like before.
Nick appears and climbs into the fountain. He claims that he didn't throw a chip into the fountain at all. He drops the poker chip in the water and the priest is heard yelling 'Free of temptation!'. Beth finally believes Nick and kisses him.
