Alice in Wonderland (1951)

Alice in Wonderland is a 1951 American animated feature produced by Walt Disney and based primarily on Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland with a few additional elements from Through the Looking-Glass. Thirteenth in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, the film was released in New York City and London on July 26, 1951 by RKO Radio Pictures. The film features the voices of Kathryn Beaumont as Alice (also voice of Wendy Darling in the later Disney feature film, Peter Pan) and Ed Wynn as the Mad Hatter.

It is part of the "English Cycle" of Disney animated films, which include Peter Pan (1953), 101 Dalmatians (1961), The Sword in the Stone (1963), The Jungle Book (1967), Robin Hood (1973), The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977) and The Rescuers (1977).

Made under the supervision of Walt Disney himself, this film and its animation are often regarded as some of the finest work in Disney studio history, despite the lackluster, even hostile, reviews it originally received, especially in the United Kingdom.

Love and Other Drugs is a 2010 comedy-drama film directed by Edward Zwick, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, based on the non-fiction book Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman by Jamie Reidy. This is Zwick's second film in the comedy-drama genre, the first being About Last Night....

Love and Other Drugs was released in the United States on November 24, 2010 by 20th Century Fox. The film received mixed reviews from film critics.

Plot:

In the 1990s, Jamie (Gyllenhaal), who works at an electronics store, is fired for sleeping with his manager's girlfriend. After his parents find out and criticize Jamie for leaving medical school, his wealthy brother Josh (Josh Gad) offers to find him a job as a medical representative. Jamie goes to work for Pfizer and tries to get doctors to prescribe Zoloft and Zithromax. He is rebuffed constantly much to the dismay of his partner Bruce (Oliver Platt), who sees Jamie as his ticket to the "big leagues" of Chicago. Bruce tells Jamie if he can get Dr. Knight (Hank Azaria) to prescribe Zoloft instead of Prozac, all the other doctors will follow his lead. Jamie uses his skills as a womanizer to gain access to Dr. Knight.

Jamie meets one of Knight's patients, Maggie Murdock (Hathaway), who suffers from early onset Parkinson's disease. Jamie arranges a date with her, which lasts only 10 minutes before they return to her apartment and have sex.

In the hospital parking lot, Jamie is confronted and beaten up by the top-selling Prozac rep Trey, also one of Maggie's lovers, who warns Jamie to stay away from her and the doctors. That night, Jamie goes to Maggie's apartment, and they start having sex but Jamie is unable to get an erection. Maggie teases him that he should use the new erection drug, Viagra, that his company has developed. Jamie starts selling Viagra, which becomes very popular with the doctors and helps Jamie and Maggie's sex life.

Jamie tries to convince Maggie to have a fuller relationship with him, but she refuses. The next day, Maggie is helping senior citizens onto a bus bound for Canada to get cheap prescription drugs when Jamie shows up. They argue about their relationship and she leaves. Jamie waits in the parking lot, and the next day when the bus comes back, Maggie is touched that he waited and tells him she will have a relationship with him.

Jamie asks Maggie to go to a medical conference with him in Chicago. She accepts and while at the conference is invited to a Parkinson's convention across the street. She is moved by the people and their stories. She asks Jamie to come over and join her and he meets a man whose wife is in the final stages of the disease. Jamie asks for advice about Maggie, and the man tells him to run. This shakes Jamie. After the convention, Maggie tells him how much she loves him.

Jamie starts researching Parkinson's and pushing Knight for information on specialists. He starts taking Maggie to a specialist and paying for her to have tests done. At one office Jamie becomes upset because their appointment was rescheduled after they had flown in to see the doctor. While Jamie is yelling at the receptionist, Maggie walks out. They fight and Maggie says there is no cure. Maggie sees that Jamie can only love her with the hope that one day there will be a cure, and so she breaks up with him.

Some time later, Jamie goes to meet Bruce for dinner and runs into Maggie, who is on a date. Bruce shows up and says that Jamie has been promoted to the Chicago office. Jamie goes home and starts to pack but realizes he wants to be with Maggie and goes to the diner where she works. Her boss tells him she has left for Canada to obtain drugs and Jamie goes off after her. Jamie flags down the bus Maggie is on. Maggie gets off and says that Jamie has five minutes to talk. He tells Maggie about how she makes him a better person, that he loves her and needs her. She starts to cry and says she will need him more. The film ends with Maggie and Jamie living together with Jamie refusing the Chicago promotion, and enrolling in Medical School.

The Disappearance of Alice Creed (2010)

The Disappearance of Alice Creed is a 2009 British thriller film about the kidnapping of a young woman by two ex-convicts. The film is written and directed by J Blakeson and stars Gemma Arterton as the captured Alice Creed, with Martin Compston and Eddie Marsan as Danny and Vic, the kidnappers.

Vic and Danny kidnap Alice, the daughter of a rich man, for the ransom money. Unknown to Vic, Danny and Alice are in a relationship and Danny plans to keep all the ransom money for Alice and himself. Alice hates her father for cutting her out of her inheritance, therefore Danny assumes that she will be happy with his plan. She must not be informed about the plan, nor about Danny's identity; she has to be genuinely frightened, otherwise Vic would become suspicious.

While Vic is away, and Danny is guarding the imprisoned Alice, she manages to grab his gun, which she fires into the wall. When she points the gun at Danny, he is forced to reveal his identity to her, and explain the plan. She is angry, but agrees to play along, for fear of Vic killing them both. Danny finds the empty shell on the floor and has to swallow it to hide it from Vic. Later, while they're having sex, Alice manages to handcuff Danny to the bed and pick up the gun, which Danny eventually manages to take off her. Vic returns and finds a mobile phone on Alice's person showing that she has managed to call the police. He also finds the bullet in the wall and he forces Alice to tell him about Danny's plan.

Vic is shocked that Danny has deceived him, even more so because the two of them are gay lovers, observing that Danny could not have faked his arousal. In a gun fight between the two men, both are shot and killed. Alice then escapes with the ransom money.

And Soon the Darkness is a 2010 thriller, directed by Marcos Efron, starring Karl Urban, Amber Heard, and Odette Yustman.

Two young American girls, Stephanie and Ellie, are on a leisure trip through Argentina. The two girls were supposed to take the bus to their destination but instead the two girls missed their bus. Trying to make more sense of their trip the two decided to have a bike trip near a river. The bike trip takes a turn for the worse when Ellie disappears being kidnapped. Stephanie desperately searches for her friend, and she is joined by Michael, an American, who claims to be looking for someone who disappeared months ago.[3]The duo were assisted by the town's only police who turned out to be in cahoots with the criminal syndicate which kidnapped girls to be sold as sex slaves. Stephanie assisted Ellie in escaping, but Ellie dies while they try to escape. Later, it was revealed that the lone police officer was behind all the missing girls and the cop in turn tries to make a trade for Michael's girlfriend and Stephanie. The trade does not materialize and Michael gets shot. After Michael gets shot, Stephanie gets kidnapped by the policeman and this time rescues herself while being brought to the Paraguayan border.

Sex and the City 2 (2010)

In November 2008, Cattrall confirmed that a second movie was in the works and was expected to begin filming in August 2009.[17] It was confirmed in January 2009 that all four leading ladies had committed to a sequel and would be commanding higher salaries for the second film.[18]

The second film began shooting on September 1, 2009 with Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth. On September 18, 2009, Kim Cattrall, who plays Samantha Jones, was pictured in a wedding dress leading to speculation that her character might be getting married in the film. The film was released on May 27, 2010 in the United States and May 28, 2010 in the United Kingdom. The world premiere of the movie held on 24 May 2010.

Again, the film stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall and Chris Noth, who reprised their roles from the previous film and TV series. It also features cameos from Liza Minnelli, Miley Cyrus and Penélope Cruz.

The film is set two years after the previous film.


Michael Patrick King had confirmed[when?] in interviews that a third installment was in development as well as a possible fourth to end the series for good.

It was also being reported that the third film was intended to be a prequel and feature Carrie as a teenager. No actress had been confirmed to play the role of Carrie, however comments by the author of the column the series was based on have led to speculation that Miley Cyrus might be a strong contender for the role. [19][20] There is no official word to a further sequel, but there are conflicting reports at present. Initially, word was that the plans for the third film were dropped.[21] However, alternatively, some reports state that as the film has continued to sell well outside of the US market, climbing to in excess of $300 million box office as of August 2010, which is more than double the budget of the film, there is still commercial interest in the franchise.

Frankie and Alice is a 2010 Canadian drama film directed by Geoffrey Sax. Her disorder occurred as a result of a traumatic accident in which she lost the man she loved in a car accident and soon after the child they had conceived. With the help of her psychiatrist she receives the help she needs and becomes a high school teacher who later goes on to marry a psychiatrist.

The Transporter (2002)

The Transporter (French: Le Transporteur) is a 2002 French action film directed by Louis Leterrier and Corey Yuen and written by Luc Besson, who was inspired by BMW Films' The Hire series.

The film stars Jason Statham as Frank Martin, a driver for hire – a mercenary "transporter" who will deliver anything, anywhere – no questions asked – for the right price. It also stars Shu Qi as Lai Kwai.

The film was released in France on October 2, 2002 and in the United States on October 11, 2002. It is the first film in a series also consisting of Transporter 2 and Transporter 3.

Plot

Frank Martin (Jason Statham) is a highly skilled driver known only as "The Transporter". The title character is a former Special Forces officer who, disillusioned with his former leadership, now lives on the French Mediterranean coastline with a lucrative second career. He will transport anything, no questions asked, from Point A to Point B.

He operates by a set of rules:

1. Never change the deal.
2. No names.
3. Never open the package.
4. Never make a promise you can't keep.

Frank has been hired to transport "Three men, 254 kilos." When not three but four men get into his car, fresh from a bank heist, Frank refuses to move, stating, "The deal's the deal," holding fast to Rule #1. After one gang member is killed by the others, Frank leaves with the remaining robbers. On delivery to their destination, they foist new money on Frank to drive further. He refuses, again adhering to Rule #1.

Frank is then hired to deliver a package to an American gangster (Matt Schulze) known only as "Wall Street." While changing a flat tire on the way to Wall Street, he breaks one of his rules and opens the package that was placed into the trunk at Point A. He finds the package is really a woman. He delivers the package as promised to Point B, but it seems that nothing is ever quite easy for Frank. The rules are designed to make things easier. One should never break the rules. As he leaves, Wall Street hires Frank to transport a briefcase; the briefcase turns out to be a bomb that destroys Frank's car at a roadside stop but leaves him largely unharmed.

Frank returns to Wall Street's residence with a vengeance, dispatching several of his henchmen and then stealing a car to get away, only to find "the package" inside. The next day, local police Inspector Tarconi turns up at Frank's door. The Inspector makes the usual inquires, producing a scorched license plate. The Inspector leaves and things quiet down. Then missiles hit the house.

Later, the beautiful young woman we now know as Lai, sneaks into police records on the Inspector's computer to find the man who abducted her. She tells Frank that the man (Wall Street) is trafficking a shipping container full of Chinese people including her own father and family, with no plans to let any of them live. Lai and Frank go to Wall Street's office to find the shipping docket identifying the container but are discovered by Wall Street and nearly killed when an associate of Wall Street arrives with henchmen. The henchmen are knocking Frank out and stop short of killing him when the Inspector arrives to investigate the man whose face Lai left up on his display. The Inspector arrests Frank to save him from Wall Street's henchmen.

At the police station, Frank does his best to explain the situation to the Inspector and then manages an escape as the police look on helplessly. The Inspector knows that Frank is ex-military. And the Inspector is an ex-little-boy who wouldn't mind believing in a hero now and then. Frank commandeers a watercraft and other means of transport in search of the containers and Lai, with stunts and displays of martial arts along the way.

It is then revealed that Lai's father is in on the trafficking scheme. Later, Frank opts to pursue Wall Street by hitching a ride on an airplane (while holding the pilot at gunpoint). Frank later jumps out of the plane in a parachute onto a series of trucks which are holding the traffickees. After a short melee fight with Wall Street (who is unceremoniously thrown out of the truck on the highway), Frank pulls the truck over safely. Lai's father meanwhile, has discovered Frank and tries to kill him by shooting him in front of a cliff. Lai ironically comes up behind and shoots her father just before Frank is about to take Lai's father's bullet. The film ends with the hostages being freed and Frank and Lai reuniting happily.

Windtalkers (2002)

Windtalkers is a 2002 action war film directed by John Woo. Nicolas Cage and Christian Slater star as two US Marine sergeants assigned to protect Navajo code talkers in Saipan during World War II.

Plot

WWII Cpl. Joe Enders (Nicolas Cage) after becoming almost deaf in one ear a year earlier while trying to save a buddy, returns to active duty with a little help from a sympathetic pharmacist (Frances O'Connor). His first assignment is to protect Navajo code talker Pvt. Ben Yahzee (Adam Beach). Sgt. Ox Anderson (Christian Slater) receives a parallel assignment protecting Navajo code talker Pvt. Charlie Whitehorse (Roger Willie).

Yahzee and Whitehorse send and receive coded messages that direct battleship bombardments of Japanese land positions. Enders and Anderson are told that the code cannot fall into enemy hands and to kill the code talkers if they are captured.

This is Yahzee and Whitehorse's first combat experience. After the beachhead is secured, the Marines comes under friendly fire by American artillery. Yahzee's radio is destroyed and the convoy is unable to call off the bombardment.

Still without the ability to communicate and American artillery shells raining down on them, Yahzee is disguised as a Japanese soldier and sent behind enemy lines in search of a radio. Yahzee has to kill a Japanese radioman before he can redirect American artillery fire onto the Japanese position.

Yahzee is sent back to headquarters and that night the Marines make camp in a village that is latter attacked. During the fight Anderson, who had been guarding Whitehorse, is decapitated and Whitehorse is about to be captured by the Japanese. Enders saw Whitehorse as he was beaten by the Japanese. Enders tries to shoot the Japanese with his pistol, but ran out of ammo. Enders selects a grenade as Whitehorse nods, permitting Enders to throw a grenade in order to protect the code. The grenade killed Whitehorse and the captive Japanese. Yahzee returns to the front-line and, after learning that Enders killed Whitehorse, attempts to shoot him.

The Marines are then ambushed near a minefield, yet are able to fight their way out to a ridge. At the top of the ridge, Japanese artillery firing on American troops. Still angry over Whitehorse, Yahzee attacks the Japanese fearlessly, and in so doing, fumbles the radio needed to call in bombardments. Yahzee and Enders are shot as they both attempt to retrieve the radio . Enders manages to carry Yahzee to safety after taking a shot in the chest. With his last breath Enders confesses he hated having to kill Whitehorse, yet had to protect the code.

Back in the U.S., Yahzee, his wife and son sit on top of the John Ford's Point mesa in Monument Valley, Arizona, and perform the Navajo ritual of paying respects to the man who saved his life.

Chicago is a 2002 musical film adapted from the satirical stage musical of the same name, exploring the themes of celebrity, scandal, and corruption in Jazz age Chicago.

Insomnia (2002)

Insomnia is a 2002 American psychological thriller mystery film directed by Christopher Nolan and stars Al Pacino, Robin Williams, and Hilary Swank. It is a remake of the 1997 Norwegian film of the same name. The film was released on 24 May 2002.

Plot

In the small fishing town of Nightmute, Alaska, a local 17-year-old girl named Kay Connell (Crystal Lowe) is found murdered. Two LAPD detectives, Will Dormer (Al Pacino) and Hap Eckhart (Martin Donovan) are sent up to assist the local police with their investigation.

Concurrently, an intense Internal Affairs investigation back in Los Angeles is about to put Dormer under the microscope; Eckhart, reveals that Internal Affairs has offered him an immunity deal in exchange for his testimony regarding one of Dormer's past cases. Dormer tries to talk Eckhart out of it, but Eckhart, apparently complicit to some degree in Dormer's misdeeds, says that ultimately he must look out for himself and his family first, so he feels he has no choice but to accept the deal.

Focusing on the Nightmute case, Dormer comes up with a clever plan to lure the murderer back to the scene of the crime; however, the stakeout attempt is blown, and the murder suspect flees into the fog, forcing the police to spread out and search for him on foot. During the pursuit, Dormer sees a figure through the fog, which he believes to be the armed murder suspect. He fires, and the figure collapses, but when Dormer approaches, he discovers that he has mistakenly shot Eckhart; Dormer then runs to Eckhart's aid, only to find he believes that Dormer shot him to prevent him from testifying, causing him to turn away in fear before succumbing to his wounds. Given the nature of Eckhart's impending testimony, Dormer knows that Internal Affairs will never believe that the shooting was accidental, causing him to alter the crime scene before crying for help. Ellie Burr (Hilary Swank), a young police officer and Dormer's biggest fan, is put in charge of the investigation into Eckhart's shooting, which causes Dormer to use his influence and reputation to try and mislead her into believing the suspect killed Eckhart.

Dormer finds himself becoming mentally unstable due to guilt over killing Eckhart and the resultant insomnia (which is further exacerbated by the perpetual daylight). Dormer then starts receiving anonymous phone calls from the suspect, who claims to have witnessed Dormer kill his partner, and knows of his attempts to cover it up. Dormer is aware that Kay was a fan of a crime writer named Walter Finch (Robin Williams), and books autographed by him were found among her possessions; this then leads Dormer to believe that Finch is somehow involved, so he breaks into his apartment to gather evidence, only to to discovered by Finch. After a pursuit ending in Finch's escape, Dormer is contacted by him, and agrees to meet him in public; Finch then offers Dormer a deal, where Dormer is to frame Kay's abusive boyfriend Randy Stetz (Jonathan Jackson) for the murder in exchange for Finch's silence about the Eckhart shooting, forcing Dormer to choose between destroying his own reputation and allowing an innocent man to be sent to prison.

Meanwhile, Burr finds some inconsistencies in Dormer's testimony; she finds a 9mm shell casing at the scene (which conflicts with the bullet type believed to be found in the body), and believes that the direction the suspect fled is improbable. Finch, under Dormer's instruction, gives false testimony at the station, which, along with a weapon planted by Dormer, effectively places blame on Randy. Back at the station, Finch becomes aware of Burr's knowledge on Eckhart's death, and asks her to come and collect evidence from his second, isolated home the next day.

Dormer returns to his hotel for one last night, where he confides with the hotel owner about the investigation in which Eckhart was to testify; he reveals that he fabricated evidence to help convict a pedophile he was certain was guilty (and who would have been set free should Eckhart have testified).

Upon returning to Finch's apartment, Dormer discovers that Finch has gone to meet Burr without his evidence, and realises that he intends to kill her. Meanwhile, Burr discovers the murder victim's dress, and is struck by Finch, knocking her unconscious. Dormer, suffering fatigue from his insomnia, eventually reaches the cabin and struggles to fight Finch. Burr eventually saves Dormer from Finch, who flees outside to cover; Burr, however, holds Dormer at gunpoint, revealing that she knows he shot Eckhart and demands to know whether he did it on purpose. Dormer admits that he shot his partner, but claims he is no longer certain if it was an accident or not. From the protection of his shed, Finch fires at them with a shotgun and Dormer devises a plan; while Burr distracts him with gunfire, Dormer sneaks around to Finch's location. When Dormer reaches Finch, a struggle ensues, which ends with them shooting each other.

Burr rushes to the detective's aid, and then comforts Dormer by affirming that Eckhart's shooting was accidental, and tries to toss the shell casing evidence. Dormer stops Burr, telling her not to lose her way, before finally asking to be allowed to sleep. After a brief moment of contemplation, Burr decides to slip the shell casing back into its plastic evidence bag.

My Cousin Vinny (1992)

My Cousin Vinny is a 1992 comedy film written by Dale Launer, and directed by Jonathan Lynn, starring Joe Pesci, Ralph Macchio, and Marisa Tomei, with Fred Gwynne in his final role, as well as Mitchell Whitfield, Lane Smith and Bruce McGill. The film deals with two young New Yorkers traveling through rural Alabama who are put on trial for a murder they did not commit, and the comic attempts of a cousin, Vincent Gambini, a newly minted lawyer, to defend them.

Much of the humor comes from the contrasting personalities of the brash Italian American Vinny and his fiancée Mona Lisa, and the more laid back Southern townspeople. Pesci and Tomei received vast critical praise for their performances, and Tomei won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Fred Gwynne also received critical acclaim for his performance as Judge Chamberlain Haller.

In the August 2008 edition of the American Bar Association Journal, My Cousin Vinny was rated #3 in their cover story listing of "The 25 Greatest Legal Movies", after To Kill a Mockingbird and 12 Angry Men.
