Death Sentence (2007)

Death Sentence is a 2007 crime thriller loosely based on the 1975 novel by Brian Garfield. Directed by Saw director James Wan, the film stars Kevin Bacon as Nick Hume, a man who takes the law into his own hands after his son is murdered by a gang as an initiation ritual. Hume must then protect his family from the gang's resulting vengeance. The film premiered on August 31, 2007, and was released on DVD on January 8, 2008.

Nick Hume (Kevin Bacon) is husband to Helen (Kelly Preston), and father of two boys, Brendan and Lucas. After Brendan's hockey game, Nick and Brendan (Stuart Lafferty), the star of his team, drive home talking of the oldest son's future. They make a quick stop at a gas station to refuel. During what appears to be a robbery of the gas station, Joe Darley (Matt O'Leary), younger brother to gang leader and a new initiate, slices Brendan's throat open with a machete. Nick attempts to ambush the thugs, managing to pull off Joe's mask and see his face, but Joe escapes, only to be hit by a car. Nick rushes Brendan to the hospital, but his son dies from major blood loss.

Nick soon discovers that, if the case goes to court at all, the murderer would only be sentenced to 3 to 5 years in jail for his crime, so he forces the police to drop the case. Joe, now a free man, becomes the target of Nick's revenge; he is eventually killed when Nick stabs him with a rusty knife in Joe's home. The gang leader, Billy Darley (Garrett Hedlund) wants revenge for the death of his little brother. After discounting members of other gangs as culprits they learn a gang member's sister happened to see a man in a suit the night Joe died. Quickly realizing it must be Nick, they ambush him the next day, atop a multi-story car park. Nick escapes, but takes another gang member's life in the process. Billy warns Nick that they will be coming for his family and that he has bought them a 'death sentence.'

The police detective who's been following Nick's case, Detective Jessica Wallis (Aisha Tyler), is aware of what is happening: She grants Nick's family police protection and has a callout to Billy's gang. The officers watching over the family are killed in an ensuing raid, and the gang members make their way inside, where they attack and shoot at Nick, his wife Helen, and his remaining son Luke (Jordan Garrett).

Nick and Luke survive, but Helen does not (although this situation with Helen was not shown to the viewers). After Detective Wallis gives a brief speech on how wars are never settled, she lets Nick pay a short visit to his now-comatose son in the hospital, where he apologizes for not being a better father. Nick leaves the hospital to go after the remaining gang members obtaining guns from a black market gun dealer named Bones Darley (John Goodman) (who has been the gang's boss up to this point, and is revealed to be Billy's father whom Billy kills after he criticizes and warns him) and heads to Billy's lair, called "The Office" to kill the remainder of the gang. He soon confronts and shoots Billy in a quick duel which leaves both men seriously wounded. Dying of his wounds, Billy admits to Nick that he did, in fact, turn Nick into a vicious cold-blooded killer just like him. After this, Nick pulls out one of his guns and asks if Billy's "ready," (indicating to the viewer that he finishes Billy off although this is not shown).

With his family now avenged, Nick returns home and starts to watch the videos of his family. Detective Wallis arrives and tells him that his son has started moving and will live. Nick shows a sign of relief and looks back to the TV which shows Luke, Helen, Nick and Brendan singing on the couch. Nick is seriously wounded at this point, and it is unclear if he survives in the end.

Cinderella III: A Twist in Time (2007)

Cinderella III: A Twist in Time is the second direct-to-video sequel to the 1950 Walt Disney Pictures animated classic Cinderella. Canonically it is a continuation of the original Cinderella, rather than Cinderella II: Dreams Come True, though due to its unusual chronological sequencing it acknowledges the events of Cinderella II: Dreams Come True by using some of its characters. The film was released on February 6, 2007 and rated G by the MPAA. The film is directed by Frank Nissen and features the voices of Jennifer Hale and Susanne Blakeslee. For the UK release of the film, it was simply titled Cinderella: A Twist in Time, without mention of it being a sequel. It made its world television premiere on Toon Disney on December 3, 2007.

The film starts on the first anniversary of Cinderella and Prince Charming's wedding, where Jaq, Gus and the Fairy Godmother are surprising the couple with a picnic in the woods. Back at the manor that was Cinderella's former home, her stepsisters Anastasia and Drizella are stuck doing Cinderella's old chores, and are clearly unhappy with their current lifestyle. Anastasia, trying to avoid working, wanders off into the woods where she witnesses the Fairy Godmother's magic in action.

The Fairy Godmother drops her wand in front of Anastasia, who takes it and rushes back to the manor and shows it to her mother, Lady Tremaine. The Fairy Godmother arrives to retrieve the wand, and during a tussle, the Fairy Godmother is accidentally transformed into a stone statue. Anastasia is regretful for what has happened, but Lady Tremaine is ecstatic only at the possibility of having another chance at ruining Cinderella's life. She takes the magic wand and reverses time, going back to the moment where things started to go right for Cinderella: the Duke's arrival at the manor with the glass slipper. Lady Tremaine rushes the process along and uses the wand to make the slipper fit Anastasia's foot before Cinderella can make it downstairs. The Duke, seeing the slipper fit, announces that Anastasia will wed the prince, and asks for them to get ready to go to the royal palace. Cinderella rushes downstairs in what was previously "the nick of time" and is confused over the outcome. Lady Tremaine breaks Cinderella's other slipper and tells her to forget the dance ever happened. Tremaine and her daughters then leave to the palace for the wedding preparations.

Cinderella is convinced that Charming will remember her, so she goes to the palace in secret and sneaks in through the servant's entrance. Elsewhere, when Charming sees Anastasia, Tremaine uses the wand to make him forget about Cinderella completely. Jaq and Gus witness this event and tell Cinderella about the plot. Meanwhile, Anastasia dances with the prince, and becomes increasingly hopeful that he will fall in love with her. She is, however, a poor dancer and the King requests to speak with her. It turns out that Anastasia faintly resembles the King's former wife. The King simply tells her that the old queen was also a poor dancer, but that they loved each other very much, and he could tell from the moment their hands touched. He then gives her a seashell that he claims is his most precious possession.

Meanwhile Cinderella disguises herself and enters the room where her stepfamily is staying; though she manages to get the wand, Tremaine sends the palace guards to stop her before she can break the spell on Charming. Cinderella is caught by the guards, and when the guards start to remove her from the castle, Cinderella reaches out to touch Charming's hand, and the connection they both feel confuses him. Tremaine orders Cinderella to be put on the next ship out of the kingdom.

The mice take matters into their own hands and confront Charming with their side of the story, using the other mended glass slipper as evidence. Charming, although he still cannot remember her, believes the mice's tale and sets out to retrieve Cinderella before she sails off. He succeeds, the pair are reunited and the true nature of Tremaine and Drizella is revealed. The King orders Lady Tremaine, Anastasia and Drizella arrested.

Despite this, Lady Tremaine does not give up. She uses the wand's magic to conceal herself and her daughters when the King's guards search the palace grounds for her. As Cinderella is preparing for her wedding, Lady Tremaine reveals herself and her new plan: she has made Anastasia to look exactly like Cinderella, and she will take the real Cinderella's place during the wedding ceremony. Lady Tremaine then magically sends Cinderella, Jaq and Gus into the hollow center of a pumpkin in a distant meadow. In a twisted homage to the original film, the pumpkin becomes a deformed carriage and Lucifer becomes its human driver, intending to send Cinderella and the mice to their doom. After a frantic struggle, Cinderella, Jaq and Gus manage to defeat Luficer, escape the pumpkin and ride back to the palace.

Cinderella arrives at the palace just as the vows are being exchanged, and witnesses Anastasia saying (after an inner struggle) "I don't" when prompted by the minister. Lady Tremaine, angered at her daughter's sudden conscience, steps out of her hiding place. The King orders her arrested, but Lady Tremaine turns the guards to animals, and then turns her attention to Cinderella and Anastasia. Charming jumps in and uses his sword to block the wand's magic, causing it to bounce back and send Lady Tremaine and Drizella back to their house as toads. Anastasia uses the wand to turn herself back to normal and then gives it to Cinderella, who revives the Fairy Godmother. The Fairy Godmother offers to reverse time back to the original timeline before Lady Tremaine changed it, but Cinderella declines, knowing that no matter what, she will still be happy with Charming. The Fairy Godmother creates a new gown for Cinderella, and marries Cinderella and Charming.

Anastasia sadly gives the seashell back to the King, saying that she does not really deserve it, but the King tells her that everyone deserves true love, and that she can keep it.

During the credits, Lady Tremaine and Drizella become human again, but now are dressed as scullery maids, much to their horror, while Anastasia - who now lives at the palace with Cinderella - is seen in a picture accepting the common baker whom she met (and fell mutually in love with, with Cinderella's encouragement) in the previous film.

Arthur and the Invisibles (2007)

Arthur and the Invisibles (Arthur and the Minimoys in non-English-speaking territories — Arthur et les Minimoys in French-speaking countries) is a part-animated, part-live action feature film adaptation of the 2002 children's book Arthur et les minimoys / Arthur and the Minimoys, and the 2003 sequel Arthur et la cité interdite / Arthur and the Forbidden City, written by filmmaker Luc Besson, who also directed the film. It premiered in limited release in France on November 29, 2006, and received wide releases in a number of countries in the following weeks. In the United States, it opened on December 29, 2006, for one week in Los Angeles, California, with a wider release on January 12, 2007 and it was released in the United Kingdom on February 2, 2007. The film was MGM's first theatrically released animated film since 1996's All Dogs Go to Heaven 2. MGM's rights were dissolved when the movie hit theaters in December 29, 2006.

With a budget of €65,000,000, Arthur and the Invisibles was briefly the most expensive French film production until surpassed by Astérix at the Olympic Games.

In 1960, 10-year-old protagonist Arthur is living with his grandmother in a quiet country house. His grandfather Archibald has recently gone missing and he sees little of his parents. His grandmother entertains him by reading stories to him of his grandfather's adventures in Africa. One of these stories is about the friendship of the tall, Maasai-like tribe called the Bogo Matassalai with the Minimoys – tooth-sized, elfin beings they believe to be their counterparts. After Archibald had helped the Bogo Matassalai, says the story, they and the Minimoys had given him a large amount of rubies in a show of thanks for helping them. After returning home, Archibald brought the Minimoys with him and lent them his garden as their home. According to the story, he gave the Minimoys the rubies to look after them until he needed them. Arthur has become enamoured of a picture of Selenia, the princess of the Minimoys.

It's shown that Arthur's grandmother has been given a two-day deadline to pay a large sum of money to a building developer named Davido, who has bought her mortgage from the bank and plans to evict the two. Arthur therefore decides to find the rubies in order to pay off the debt. After stumbling across various clues written by his grandfather, Arthur finds the key to the Minimoys' world. He accidentally puts his grandmother into a deep sleep by dropping sleeping drops into her water and as she begins to snore, he continues. He is met in the garden by the Bogo Matassala, who show Arthur how to get into the Minimoys' world by shrinking down to their size and becoming a Minimoy himself. The Transformation alters his body giving him a big head with pointy ears, longer legs and arms, and spiky white hair. This is done by means of a telescope and the power of a shining full moon. When Arthur is underground with the Minimoys, he learns of a danger to the little people's future, posed by the plans of Maltazard, the leader of an army of mosquito-riding rebels named 'Seides' living in nearby "Necropolis", who plan to conquer the Minimoys by flooding their city. Maltazard is said to have been a Minimoy war hero corrupted by a seductive weevil, by whom he has a son called Darkos. After his corruption, Malthazar became a warlord known as the "Evil M", keeping Archibald as his prisoner and the rubies as his throne.

Arthur, reflecting his legendary British namesake, draws a sacred sword from its recess, which he then uses to protect his new friends from Malthazar's soldiers. The king gives permission for Arthur to travel to Necropolis, sending with him the princess Selenia and her younger brother. Armed with Arthur's new sword – the use of which they share – the trio embark. En route to Necropolis they are put in danger by Maltazard's soldiers numerous times. Arthur is dismayed to discover that the irrigation system of drinking straws he had made to water radishes for his grandmother is being cut apart by the soldiers, who are making plans to use them as water pipes for the coming flood. It is revealed that a flood would be especially devastating to the Minimoys due to the fact that the species cannot swim. During their travel Selenia reveals that at her age of 1000 (counted in the blossoming seasons of the royal flower, which corresponds to Arthur's), she must find a husband within two days. Over the course of the journey, Arthur comes to fall in love with Selenia, a fact she sees and uses to her advantage.

Eventually, the questors arrive in Necropolis, where the stubbornly independent Selenia takes the sword and leaves the others. Before doing so, she kisses Arthur, marking him as her husband and the future king. Selenia then confronts Maltazard alone. Maltazard wishes the first kiss of the princess to restore his original beauty; after learning she has already kissed Arthur and she can no longer give him her powers, he decides to kill her. She is captured and incarcerated in a cell where she finds her companions, who have also been seized.

In the back of the cell, they find Arthur's grandfather, who like Arthur has become a Minimoy altering his body the same way as Arthurs. He has been teaching his knowledge to Maltazard in exchange for food. Selenia feels defeated, but Arthur comforts her.

Maltazard allows them to escape 3 minutes ahead of the flood, which they do by using a clockwork car that Arthur possessed, in his human form, until Davido kicked it down the drain.

During the adventure, Arthur's crush on Selenia has been supplemented by comradeship, as well as by her own affection for him. When Arthur learns of a Minimoy custom stating that newlyweds should not kiss for the second time until after ten moons, Selenia decides she does not wish to wait and gives Arthur a long, passionate kiss before he returns to his human form. He now has an hour wherein to save the Minimoys from the flood. Archibald returns with him to the human world, and to human form, and is reunited with Arthur's grandmother.

With the help of a royal advisor's long-lost son, Milo, Arthur is able to find the pipe on the surface that goes straight down into Necropolis, when Milo signals him by directing sunlight into the ruby and out to the surface. Arthur redirects the flood to Necropolis by dropping a tennis ball down the pipe, which smashes the drinking straw pipes being used to direct the water and blocks the tunnel it was heading through. The Minimoys are saved from the flood; Necropolis is flooded instead. Maltazard abandons the plan, his army, and his son, and flees. The force of the water ejects the rubies and Miro.

Arthur and Archibald pay Davido with one ruby; he tries to take all, but the Bogo Matassalai capture him and give him to the authorities (scene deleted in the U.S. edition).

The story closes with the vows spoken by Arthur in his human form to Selenia, who sits high up on a branch in a tree, to wait patiently until the time is right for them to be together.

The ending credits then proceed, alongside scenes of every significant character (as well as the director, Luc Besson) appearing in Minimoy form to bow.

Rush Hour 3 (2007)

Rush Hour 3 is a 2007 martial arts/action-comedy film, and the third installment in the Rush Hour film series, starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, that began with the 1998 film Rush Hour and continued with the first sequel Rush Hour 2 in 2001. The film was officially announced on May 7, 2006, and filming began on July 4, 2006. The film is set in Paris, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong. Rush Hour 3 was released on August 10, 2007, in USA.[2]

Academy Award-winning film director Roman Polanski co-stars as a French police official involved in Lee and Carter's (Chan and Tucker's characters) case. In her first appearance in an American film, Noémie Lenoir portrays Geneviève, a beautiful stage performer who is one of the main suspects in the case as well as Carter's love interest. Tzi Ma reprises his role as Ambassador Han, Lee's boss and friend who appeared in the first installment. Yvan Attal co-stars as George, a cab driver who becomes Lee and Carter's new sidekick (making him the tritagonist). This film received an M rating by the Office of Film and Literature Classification (Australia) and a PG-13 rating by the MPAA.

The film starts with Carter (Tucker) directing traffic. Concurrently, Chinese Ambassador Han addresses the importance of fighting the Triads at the World Criminal Court, announcing that he may know the whereabouts of Shy Shen, a semi-mythical individual of great importance to the Triads. Before announcing,an assassin shoots and Han takes a bullet in the shoulder, disrupting the conference. Detective Lee (Chan) pursues the shooter and corners him, discovering that the assassin is his Japanese foster brother Kenji (Sanada). When Lee hesitates to shoot Kenji, he makes his escape.

In the hospital, Lee learns that Han will make a full recovery. Han's daughter, Soo-Yung (Zhang), now grown up, arrives and makes Lee and Carter promise to capture the one behind the shooting. She then informs Lee and Carter that her father gave her an envelope which contains important information regarding the Triad, and that the envelope is in her locker at the martial arts studio where she teaches. Lee and Carter make their way to the studio, but find out that a gang of armed men have already arrived and emptied it. The duo are then told by the Master of the studio that Soo-Yung and Han are in danger, and rush back to the hospital.

Once the two reach the hospital, a gang of assassins arrive to kill Soo-Yung and Han. Lee and Carter manage to defeat them. They interrogate the leader of the assassins but find that he only speaks French. With the help of a fellow nun Sister Agnes (Dana Ivey), who can speak French, translates for them and Carter and Lee find out that they are marked for death by the Triad along with Soo-Yung and Han. For her protection, they take her to the French Embassy and leave her under the care of Reynard (von Sydow), the French ambassador and the chairman of the World Criminal Court. When a car bomb nearly kills Reynard and Soo-Yung the duo decides to go to Paris to investigate.

In Paris, after getting a painful cavity search from a Parisian commissioner (Polanski) Lee and Carter meet up with George, a taxi driver (Attal), who is prejudiced against Americans. He drives them to a Triad hideout. Once there, Lee fights off a Triad assassin named Jasmine (Kudoh) while Carter meets a beautiful woman whose name is not disclosed (Lenoir). Lee and Carter escape and Reynard later tells Lee that Shy Shen is not a person, but a list of the Triad leaders and reveals that Han's informant knows where to find it. The informant turns out to be Geneviève, the woman Carter met at the gentlemen's club.

After the two locate Geneviève, they save her from an assassination attempt by the Triads and flee to their hotel room. Privately, Carter tries to interrogate Genviève but they find themselves falling in love with each other. However, they are attacked again by Jasmine who sneaks up behind Carter and Genevieve who are about to make love in bed. No longer safe at the hotel, they decide to hide out with George, who now has developed a great appreciation for the United States. Lee and Carter learn that Geneviève not only knows where the list is, but that she is the list. The names of the thirteen Triad leaders have been tattooed on the back of her head, as per tradition, and Geneviève explains that she will be decapitated and buried if the Triads capture her. When Lee and Carter bring Geneviève to Reynard, he accidentally reveals that he has been working with the Triads all along. Kenji calls and informs Lee that he has captured Soo-Yung and that he would like to exchange her for Geneviève.

Lee arrives at the exchange point, the Jules Verne Restaurant in the Eiffel Tower, with Carter disguised as Geneviève. Kenji challenges Lee to a sword fight, during which the two fall off the tower and get caught in a safety net. Kenji's sword cuts the safety net open and it collapses, leaving both men hanging on for dear life. Lee grabs Kenji's arm, intending to save his life. Kenji says his final goodbye to Lee and willingly lets go of him as he falls to his death, saving Lee's life. Lee then manages to climb up to safety. Meanwhile, Carter saves Soo-Yung and they defeat Jasmine who gets stuck between a large wheel and is split in half (off camera).

As Carter and Lee send Soo-Yung down the elevator to safety, they make their escape from the Triads by gliding down to safety with a large French flag. Unfortunately, they are confronted by Reynard, holding Geneviève hostage and threatening to kill her and frame them. However, George, having followed Lee and Carter, shoots Reynard from behind. The police arrive, with the commissioner who earlier gave out the cavity searches gloating and trying to get undeserved credit. After giving the commissioner a team punch to the face, Lee and Carter leave the scene dancing to the song "War" by Edwin Starr.

Doug Madsen (Allen), Woody Stevens (Travolta), Bobby Davis (Lawrence) and Dudley Frank (Macy) are four middle-aged suburban men in Cincinnati who find themselves frustrated with the pace of daily life and lack of adventure. Doug is a dentist who cannot seem to relate to his son Billy (Dominic Janes). Dudley is a computer programmer who is afraid to talk to women. Bobby is a plumber who dreams to one day write a how-to book on the subject of plumbing, but is made to work at The Firm by his wife Karen (Tichina Arnold). Woody is a rich lawyer who is married to a supermodel. When Woody finds out his wife is divorcing him and leaving him bankrupt, he suggests going on a motorcycle road trip to California.

Doug says to his family that he can't go because he cannot leave work. This leads his wife to say that he may be right and that the trip may not be right for a man his age. Doug is insulted by the idea of this insinuating that she thinks he is "lame". He tries to prove he is not by eating what he wants to eat, despite the fact he has high LDL. He goes into what the doctor calls a "catecholamine-induced supra-ventricular tachyarrhythmia" (stress-induced panic attack). While in the hospital, Doug talks with his wife, who convinces him to go on the trip.

After the first day's ride, the men lose their tent when Dudley accidentally throws gas onto the burning tent (thinking it was water). They are forced to all sleep on an air mattress that was spared because Bobby was too slow to blow it up and get it in the tent when they made camp.

The next morning the men encounter a gay highway patrolman (John C. McGinley) who is jealous of them on their trip and "threatens" to charge them with lewd behavior. The men go on and stop at a lake where they go skinny dipping, but they are interrupted by a family who stop to swim, but leave in horror when the men are revealed to be naked. They are then joined by the same patrolman, but escape. Stopping for fuel and food at a roadside bar, the men meet the Del Fuego gang, headed by the tough biker Jack (Ray Liotta) who recognizes the four men as "posers" and takes Dudley's bike. After riding a short distance away, Woody, disgraced by what just transpired, says they should go back and get Dudley's bike. The others refuse, so Woody walks back alone, steals the bike and cuts the fuel lines on the gang's bikes. He quickly drives back to the Wild Hogs, claiming that all he did was threaten to sue the Del Fuegos. The group continues on towards the Pacific.

The Del Fuegos realize what has happened and try to go after the Wild Hogs, but after their bikes stall, Jack accidentally drops his cigarette onto the line of fluid from where Woody cut the gas lines of the bikes. This causes a chain reaction that blows up the bar.

Because Woody is hesitant to stop for gas after he saw the bar explode when he looked in his rear-view mirror, the Wild Hogs end up running out of gas. The four end up in Madrid, New Mexico where they are mistaken for members of the Del Fuego group when they quickly grab pitchers of beer they haven't ordered and start guzzling them. Recovering from their thirst, they learn the Del Fuegos regularly terrorize the town, but the police force, which has very little training and no guns, can't do anything.

The four men re-evaluate their lives, especially when Doug, Woody, and Bobby do a "bull-slap" which ends up being painful for two of them and Dudley falls for Maggie (Marisa Tomei), the owner of the local diner.

Eventually, the four men are spotted and the Del Fuegos come to get their revenge. The two Del Fuegos call Jack and tell him the Wild Hogs are in Madrid ("I like Madrid. The ground's soft enough to bury them in!" says Jack) Bobby, believing that they are safe because of what Woody told them, squirts the two men with ketchup and mustard. The two Del Fuego scouts do not fight, because Jack told them not to hurt the Wild Hogs until he arrived. The Wild Hogs are proclaimed heroes.

The next day, the entire team of Del Fuegos shows up in Madrid. Woody reveals what happened at the Del Fuego bar and the truth behind his need to take the trip, upsetting the others. After the Del Fuegos threaten to burn Maggie's diner, Dudley stands up to the gang, but is captured. The others join Dudley, with Doug declaring that they aren't going to run, but are going to fight. They are easily outmatched by the Del Fuegos and are beat up badly, holding up against them to keep them busy. The townspeople arrive and threaten the Del Fuegos, when Damien Blade (Peter Fonda), Jack's father and the founder of the Del Fuegos, arrives. Blade berates Jack for letting four "posers" hold off an entire biker gang, questioning aloud just which side was the "posers", and telling Jack that the bar was nothing but an insurance scam. Blade tells the gang to leave town, and ride the open road until they remember what riding is really about, mentioning on his way out of town that Jack "takes after his mother".

Doug and Bobby's wives arrive, and the two finally learn to relate to their families. Bobby finally stands up to his wife and tells her that he is tired of her being controlling over him, and she apologizes for it. The Wild Hogs reach the West coast soon after and it ends when they get sidetracked by Dudley nearly wiping out, and crash into a tandem surfboard.

The Cake Eaters is a small-town, ensemble drama that explores the lives of two interconnected families coming to terms with love in the face of loss. Living in rural America, The Kimbrough family is an odd bunch: Easy, the patriarch and local butcher, is grieving over the recent loss of his wife, Ceci, while hiding a secret ongoing affair for years; Beagle, his youngest son who was left to care for his ailing mother, works in the local high school cafeteria by day but has a burning passion inside that manifests itself through painting street signs; and the eldest son, Guy, has been away from the family for years while pursuing his rock star dream in the big city until the day he learns of his mother's passing and that he has missed the funeral.

Upon Guy's return home, relationships between the characters begin to unravel: Beagle's pent up emotions connect with Georgia Kaminski, a terminally ill teenage girl wanting to experience love before it is too late; Easy's long-time affair with Marg, Georgia's eccentric grandmother, is finally exposed to the Kimbrough children; and Guy discovers that, in his absence, his high school sweetheart, Stephanie, has moved on and started a family of her own. Through it all, the Kimbroughs and Kaminskis manage to establish a new beginning in the face of their greatest fears.

In spite of the title, there is no reference in the movie to the eating of cakes.

30 Days of Night (2007)

30 Days of Night is a 2007 American horror film based on the comic book miniseries of the same name. The film is directed by David Slade and stars Josh Hartnett, Melissa George, and Danny Huston. The story focuses on an Alaskan town beset by vampires as it enters into a thirty-day long polar night.

30 Days of Night was originally pitched as a comic then a film but was rejected. Years later Steve Niles showed IDW Publishing and the idea it took off. The film was produced on a budget of $30 million and grossed $75 million in the box office during its 6 week run starting on October 19, 2007. The sequel, 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, was released on October 5, 2010 straight to home video.

Barrow, Alaska is preparing for its annual "30 Days of Night", a period during the winter where there is no sun. As the town gets ready, a stranger rows ashore from a large ship. Once in Barrow, he sabotages the town's communications and transport; Barrow's sheriff, Eben Oleson, investigates. Eben learns that his ex-wife-to-be, Stella Oleson, missed the last plane and must stay the 30 days. Although they try to avoid one another, when Eben confronts the stranger in the town diner, Stella helps to subdue him and take him to the station house.

At the jail, the stranger taunts the townsfolk, telling them that death is coming. Just then, vampires attack the local telecommunications center and power supply, rendering the town dark and cut off from the outside world. Eben goes to the telecommunications center and finds the operator's head impaled. Suspecting impending danger, Eben and Stella go through town, warning all the residents.

The vampires, led by Marlow, slaughter most of the townspeople, while the remaining survivors congregate in the diner. As Eben and Stella recover ammunition and supplies, vampires attack but Beau Brower rescues them. Everyone takes shelter in a boarded-up house with a hidden attic. Marlow finds the stranger in the jail and snaps his neck.

Over the next week, Eben, his younger brother Jake, Stella, and seven other survivors stick it out in the attic. The vampires use Kirsten Toomey as bait and Eben leaves to help her but finds John Riis in a crawlspace. As vampires kill the girl, Eben attempts to help John; but upon discovering that he is a vampire, cuts off his head.

When a blizzard hits, Eben and the others use the whiteout to go to the general store. There, a girl vampire attacks. The whiteout ends during the struggle preventing the survivors from going back to the attic. Eben decides that everyone should go to the police station and provides a diversion by running to his grandmother's house for an ultraviolet lighting system. He makes it to the house, jump-starts the generator, and turns the light on the vampires, wounding Marlow's lover Iris so badly he is forced to kill her to put her out of her misery.

Eben escapes the house, but the vampires follow him. Beau rescues him, killing many vampires with his tractor. He crashes into a hotel and ignites a box of dynamite, trying to kill himself before the vampires can. Unsuccessful, Beau survives the blast and his skull is crushed under Marlow's feet, but it allows Eben to reach the station.

Two weeks later, Stella and Eben see Deputy Billy Kitka signaling them with a flashlight and bring him back to the station. When the vampires first attacked, Billy had killed his wife and daughters so that they wouldn't die like the rest. He then tried to shoot himself but his gun jammed.

Eben, Stella, and Billy find that the others have made for the utilidor, a power station that still has power. They begin to sneak towards it and spot a human girl, Gail Robbins, pursued by the vampire Zurial. Stella helps the girl while Eben and Billy distract Zurial. Stella and Gail manage to hide under an abandoned truck; Eben and Billy both make it to the utilidor, where they find the other survivors, but the vampire Arvin gets inside. Arvin attacks Billy, ripping into his neck, but as he turns to Eben, Billy knocks Arvin into the gears of the utilidor's pump, shredding him, also accidentally shredding his own hand. Also due to the wounds the vampire inflicted, Billy begins to turn into a vampire, forcing Eben to cut off his head.

The sun is due to rise soon and the vampires prepare to burn the town to prevent any survivors from telling the world what happened. Realizing he cannot beat the vampires in his current state, Eben injects himself with infected blood from Billy so he can become a vampire. He engages Marlow in a vicious battle, and the fight ends when Eben punches all the way through Marlowe's head, killing him. Leaderless and with the sun about to rise, the other vampires disappear.

Eben and Stella watch the sunrise together. While Stella rests on Eben's shoulder, they share one last kiss. Stella holds Eben tightly in her arms as the sun brightens the sky, and Eben dies, his body burning to ashes, while Stella looks on at the sky finally closing them and coming to grips with what has happened.

August Rush (2007)

August Rush is a 2007 drama film directed by Kirsten Sheridan and written by Paul Castro, Nick Castle, and James V. Hart, and produced by Richard Barton Lewis.

Set in 1995, Lyla Novacek (Keri Russel) is a cellist in an orchestra under strict rule of her father (William Sadler). Louis Connelly (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is the lead singer of The Connelly Brothers. Lyla and Louis have a chance meeting during a party and sleep together while a man plays his harmonica down on the street. Lyla returns to her angered father and head back to Chicago, finding that she is now pregnant with Louis's son. After an argument with her father, she runs out into the street and is struck by a car. She gives birth prematurely and her father quickly puts her son up for adoption. Louis continues waiting for Lyla in New York and eventually gives up.

Eleven years later, Evan (Freddie Highmore) is living in an orphanage outside of the city. Evan has the ability to hear music wherever he is. He meets with Richard Jefferies, a social worker (Terrence Howard) who gives Evan his card, and Evan soon runs away to New York City to find his family.

Louis now lives in San Francisco and has since left his band. He meets one of his former bandmates and is invited to his birthday party. Louis is hesitant because he has not spoken to his brother Marshall (Alex O'Loughlin) since the fallout, and he ultimately chooses to go. At the party though, his brother plays clips of the band performing, Louis confronts his brother, resulting in a mini-fight and his girlfriend (who was not aware he was a musician) breaks up with him and leaves.

Lyla lives in Chicago and also gave up music. Her friend encourages her to rejoin the Symphony, but Lyla rejects. She is called to her father's deathbed and he admits to her that he put the child up for adoption and is somewhere in New York.

Meanwhile, Evan is taken in by Wizard (Robin Williams), a homeless musician who believes in his art. Evan tries playing the guitar, and is so good that Wizard gives him his old spot in Central Park and his guitar, which he beforehand gave to Arthur (Leon Thomas III). The old theatre they are living in is raided by the police. Wizard distracts them and allows Evan (who is now called August Rush) to escape. He takes refuge in a church where the kindly pastor (Mykelti Williamson) notices his gift and enrolls August in Juilliard School.

Lyla is also in New York, deciding to participate in the Symphony as well as look for her lost son. Richard, who was also looking for Evan, helps her identify her child and posts a bulletin for his finding.

Louis, upon looking through old items, decides to reconnect with Lyla and flies out to Chicago to find her. He waits for several hours and when he asks one of the occupants of her apartment where Lyla was, the woman mistakes Lyla for her friend and says she's on her honeymoon in New York. Louis decides to go to New York anyway and perform with his old band.

August proves himself at Juilliard and is even given his own performance at the same Symphony that Lyla is performing in. But Wizard intrudes during a rehearsal and pulls August out of the school and puts him back on the streets performing for him. August also meets Louis, who is wandering through the park and they play together. August tells him of his dilemma and Louis tells him to do what he wants to do.

It is now the day of the Symphony and Louis's comeback to singing. August is still not being allowed to attend the event. August decides to leave Wizard and go anyway, with some help from Arthur, who also rebels against Wizard. August flees through the subway system and towards the Symphony.

Louis is heading towards the airport when he notices Lyla's name on a banner for the Symphony. He exits his vehicle and begins running towards the park. August arrives in time to perform his rhapsody and so does Richard (who discovers Evan and August are the same person). Lyla begins walking away from the park, but is attracted back towards the event. Louis arrives at the park and spots Lyla amongst the crowd and reunites with Lyla. August finishes his rhapsody and looks down and smiles at Lyla and Louis, realizing that they are his parents. Wizard is last seen playing his harmonica in the subway. The film concludes with August saying "The music is all around us, all you have to do is listen."

The Babysitters (2007)

The Babysitters is a 2007 independent film directed by David Ross. It stars John Leguizamo, Cynthia Nixon and Katherine Waterston. The story follows a teenager who turns her babysitting service into a call girl service for married men after fooling around with one of her customers.

The movie begins with a voice over by Shirley Lyner (Waterson) as we see a cabin with mostly middle-aged men and teenage girls in various states of undress. In the narration she explains that this is her babysitting service, and then dismisses violence as a cause for why she started it.

Flash back to several months prior, Shirley is obsessively arranging items in her room when Michael Beltran picks her up for a babysitting job. She shows obvious signs of being attracted to him. After the babysitting is finished, Michael drives Shirley home and they stop into a diner to eat, where they flirt heavily and Michael admits frustration with how his wife has changed and Shirley says she doesn’t have a boyfriend because she finds guys her age to be too immature. She also admits to being an obsessive compulsive cleaner and organizer.

At school we meet Shirley’s friends: Melissa, a confident, sarcastic junior trying to get into Brown a year early, and Brenda, a very chatty girl who seems to have confidence problems.

The next babysitting outing, Michael and his wife Gail are meeting with Michael’s friend Jerry, who has a business offer for Michael. Gail is frustrated that Michael wants to take it, while Michael gets curious about an abandoned train yard behind the restaurant that Gail shows no interest in. When Michael is driving Shirley home that night, they stop at the train yard and explore it, eventually sharing a kiss. Michael pays her some extra money not to tell anyone about the kiss. On the next babysitting job, they actually have sex.

At school Melissa eventually wrings the truth about the babysitting outings from Shirley, who admits the extra money is nice. At the same time Michael confesses the wrongdoing to Jerry, who sympathizes with him. Soon, Michael asks Shirley if any of her other friends can “babysit” and Melissa volunteers. After Melissa’s outing, Shirley asks her for 20% of the money as her cut, which Melissa agrees is fair. They eventually convince Brenda to take a babysitting job and Melissa pushes Shirley not to warn her about the expected sex. At first it shocks Brenda, but the man with her is very reserved and nervous, eventually boosting Brenda’s confidence. The next day, Brenda agrees to the terms and the girls set up a working business, going so far as to have business cards printed up. Meanwhile, Michael is continuing to have trouble at his job and learns that Shirley is babysitting for others besides him, which makes him uncomfortable. His wife is suspicious of his continual long nights at the office, but he denies wrongdoing.

The first problem arises when Brenda invites her younger stepsister Nadine into the group without checking with Shirley. Nadine is much more rough and aggressive than Brenda and questions why Shirley gets a cut. She soon starts her own competing business behind Shirley’s back, and Shirley starts to lose customers while seeing Nadine and her friends wearing designer clothes and jewelry. Melissa suggests breaking into her locker to find proof and they enlist Michael’s help. When they find no evidence in Nadine’s locker, they vandalize the entire school to cover their tracks, making sure to target the lockers of other girls who were working with Nadine. Shirley meets with all of them and threatens more punishments unless they follow the rules. After the meeting, Melissa presents Shirley with fake permission slips for a trip to Jerry’s cabin for a weekend. The girls will be going under the make-believe of a school trip, while the men will be there on a “business retreat”.

At the party, Michael is increasingly uncomfortable with Shirley being with other guys while Jerry questions why Michael doesn’t go with any of the other girls. Jerry has supplied drugs at the party, and Brenda has a negative reaction to the seventh heaven. Jerry attempts to rape her, but along with Brenda’s verbal resistance and cries for her mother, decides not to proceed.

At her next babysitting job, Brenda has a collapse and runs out. When Shirley talks to her, Brenda says she wants out, which Shirley agrees with, but Melissa privately expresses worry that Brenda will talk. These worries are increased when Melissa is accepted to Brown. Michael’s wife confronts him about his distance and that he has been lying about his job situation, since he was just taken off of a major project. Michael finally voices some of his frustrations about the marriage, while Gail responds with hers.

On her own initiative, Melissa has several of their customers attack and threaten Brenda’s brother. Nadine assures Brenda that everything will be fine, while Shirley gets angry at Melissa and tries unsuccessfully to contact Brenda. Michael and Shirley, out at the trains again, have an argument where Michael tries to encourage Shirley to run away with him, while Shirley reminds him that this is just business and he’s cheating himself. He’s forced to abandon her when a cop shows up, and Shirley tries to contact Brenda for a ride. Upon hearing that Nadine is babysitting without her knowledge, she calls Melissa, who is with Jerry, and they go to confront her. They interrupt Nadine at a parking garage and nearly throw her off the roof. At that point, Shirley discovers that it is her own father that is with Nadine.

The scene cuts out to another voiceover by Shirley, who says that everything stopped and they all have to live with the consequences, though it is implied that no legal action resulted. The last scene is of Shirley parking across the street from Michael's house. She sees Michael interacting with his family, apparently trying to mend the gap.

Wrong Turn 2: Dead End (2007)

Wrong Turn 2: Dead End is a 2007 American slasher film, directed by Joe Lynch, and starring Erica Leerhsen, Crystal Lowe, Henry Rollins and Texas Battle. It is a sequel to the 2003 horror film Wrong Turn, and has been available on DVD since October 9, 2007. The film was commercially successful and received a positive response from critics.

As the film begins, the concept of the show, "Apocalypse: Ultimate Survivalist," is introduced, which is about several contestants surviving in a forest as though it were the end of the world. One of the contestants, reality-show buff Kimberly, is arriving to the location and can't find the location in her car when she accidentally hits "Brother" with it. She stops to check whether he's alright, but when she approaches him, he kisses her and rips off her upper lip with his mouth. A horrified Kimberly stumbles backwards and bumps into "Three Finger" (survived from the first film) who chops her in half down the middle with an axe and she dies.

Like the original Wrong Turn, the film is set in the West Virginia back-country. The reality show is hosted by retired military commander, Dale Murphy (Henry Rollins), who makes them give up all outside communication before starting. The other contestants, Nina Papas (Erica Leerhsen), a gothic vegan, Jake Washington (Texas Battle), a football athlete, Amber (Daniella Alonso), a military student, Jonesy (Steve Braun), a pro-skateboarder and Elena Miller (Crystal Lowe), a promiscuous girl waited long for the show to start. After Kimberly doesn't show up, the show's producer Mara (Aleksa Palladino) steps into her place. As they move into the forest, the surviving cannibal, "Three Finger," attacks and kills Neil, one of the television crew, by slicing off a large portion of his scalp. Afterward, another cannibal called "Pa" punctures Dale's ATV tires with arrows, preventing him from escaping. Dale then throws a knife that hits Three Finger in the shoulder, who pulls it out and licks the blood from it. Dale turns around only to be knocked out by Pa.

Later, M (Matthew Currie Holmes), Mara's boyfriend, tries to create "sparks" between Elena and Jake, convincing Elena to seduce him. She approaches Jake and attempts this making him feel her breasts, then stripping for him and finally revealing to him her breasts. Jake who used to be an athlete, doesn't like the fact that Elena is stripping and refuses to engage in any sexual activity because of his morals. He then leaves to look for food in the woods. Elena then turns to M and decides to perform a "persuading" blowjob with him while Mara and Nina watch in disgust. Mara is devastated, then she goes with Nina to a cabin in search of a phone. There they witness a cannibal, "Ma," giving birth, and are in turn spotted by "Sister". The girls get out of the cabin through a dug out trench as Sister kicks down the door. The two run away into the woods with the cannibals chasing them. During the pursuit, when Mara tries to escape, she is hit in the head with an axe and killed as Nina hides. One of the cannibals, Pa, looks for her but fails to find her. The other cannibals drive up with Mara tied to the hood of their truck and the cannibal gets in and drives off. Nina sets off to find the others.

Down by the lake, Elena has oral sex with M so that he gives her more screen time. He goes back to the RV and Elena stays there to tan in her underwear. Brother, watching her in the bushes, starts masturbating but is interrupted by Sister who is furious and jealous of Elena. Sister knocks him over and he sets off an alarm which Elena hears. Starting to get dressed, Elena sees Sister coming out of the bushes towards her, tries to run, but trips and falls into the lake. She is then attacked and killed by Sister, having a machete slashing her back and screaming. Then Sister stops hacking at the body when Brother comes out of the bushes. Sister suddenly becomes passive and lovingly caresses Brother's face. She then kisses him.

Back at the RV, M is stabbed with an arrow and taken to the cannibals' home. Three-Finger tortures Dale, who is suspended upside-down, and as he prepares to kill him, Dale hits him between the legs, uses the moment to his advantage, manages to escape, and he and Three-Finger battle. After a short fight Dale eventually shoots Three-Finger with a shotgun who then falls into the lake, apparently killed. Dale then goes back to the house to take Mara's radiated elimination card from Mara's body and put the knife inside the shotgun.

Jake finds Amber and Jonesy at a barbecue pit. As they eat the discovered meat, a crazed Nina races up and tells her story. Jake then realizes it was Kimberly's leg that they had been eating after spotting her signature snake tattoo. As they run, Dale finds "The Old Man" (same old man and actor from previous film) in his cabin. Dale tells him about the cannibals and soon realizes the man is their unmutated father. After a brief skirmish, Dale kills the old man by blowing him up with a stick of dynamite.

After Amber, Jonesy, Jake, and Nina notice that the RV is gone, they run towards the woods and hear moaning sounds. They believe that Brother is raping Elena. Jake gets up to intervene, and it is revealed that the woman is actually Sister wearing Elena's hair (obviously scalped from Elena's head). Nina runs, horrified, and falls into a ditch set by the cannibals. Amber, Jonesy and Jake fight the cannibals and Brother falls and punctures his head on a rock. Amber, Jonesy, and Jake look for Nina. Jake decides to look for her while Amber and Jonesy go for Help. Jake finds Nina in the trap hole and runs towards the river, where Sister finds them and shoots at them as they jump to the river.

After a chase, Amber and Jonesy get caught in a trap and are soon killed with a single headshot arrow. Meanwhile, Nina and Jake make it to the mill. They walk through the first gate and Nina sees a tank with a toxic symbol labeled 'causes birth defects.' Jake and Nina then enter the mill and search around. They hear a truck and make their way to a view of a garage filled with stolen empty cars. They hear M screaming and Jake arms himself while Nina waits outside the RV. Jake enters the RV and realizes that M's screams weren't coming from the RV, but from somewhere close. Jake then watches via live feed M being decapitated. As Nina waits outside the van, she hears a giggle and Sister appears. Nina is then dragged away. Jake screams to her, but when he turns around, Pa is standing there. Jake hits Pa with a monkey wrench, but Pa shakes it off and easily overpowers him.

The abandoned mill is revealed to be the mutant's home, and Dale managed to sneak into the compound. The family of mutants appear to function and take part in certain activities like any normal family such as watching television together and saying grace before eating. Jake is held captive while Nina, who was originally caged up but after antagonising Sister, is strapped to a chair lined with barbed wire & struck over her body at the table. During the mutants' "dinner" they begin to force-feed Nina with parts of M's flesh dipped in the mutagenous material as well as rubbing it on her skin, so as to turn her into one of their own.

While sneaking, Dale catches in a noisy trap, alerting the family who soon chase him. He manages to kill Brother and Sister with dynamite stuck to an arrow and goes to Nina and Jake. He frees Nina and, while helping Jake, is shot in the back with an arrow and is then killed by a razor-wire chain thrown around his throat. Nina successfully escapes, however Jake wanders into a room where an enormous tree de-barker is kept, and soon gets into a fight with Pa. Nina returns to the mill and meets up with Jake, who kills Ma and Pa with Nina by pushing them towards the de-barker while she releases a log that knocks them into the de-barker, subjecting them to the same fate they ultimately put all their victims through. They then find Kimberly's abandoned car and drive away to safety.

Meanwhile, as the film ends, the still alive Three-Finger feeds the newborn mutant baby Mara's finger and a bottle filled with a greenish chemical waste. His laugh is heard over the end credits.

The Darjeeling Limited (2007)

The Darjeeling Limited (Hindi: द दार्जिलिंग लिमिटेड) is a 2007 Californian comedy-drama film directed by Wes Anderson, and starring Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and Jason Schwartzman. It was written by Anderson, Schwartzman, and Roman Coppola. The film also features Waris Ahluwalia, Amara Karan, Barbet Schroeder, and Anjelica Huston, with Natalie Portman, Camilla Rutherford, Irrfan Khan and Bill Murray in cameo roles.

A North American businessman in India (Bill Murray) runs after but fails to catch his train as it pulls out of a station in India. He is beaten to it by a younger man, Peter Whitman (Adrien Brody), who is carrying heavy luggage. Peter reunites with his brothers Francis (Owen Wilson) and Jack (Jason Schwartzman) on the train called "The Darjeeling Limited", which is traveling across India. The brothers have not seen each other since their father's funeral a year earlier in New York.

Francis, the oldest of the three brothers, has planned their journey in advance. The journey is supposed to culminate in a reunion with their mother, who is running a convent in the foothills of the Himalayas. Francis conceals the real reason for the trip, telling his brothers that they are making the journey for spiritual self-discovery. Francis' brothers are not convinced of this, and get annoyed with Francis' controlling behaviour such as choosing from the menu for them, which turns out to be a trait inherited from their mother. With his assistant Brendan's help, Francis draws up a detailed itinerary for the trip. He also takes his brothers' passports to prevent them from getting off the train too early. Francis, who was badly injured in a motorcycle accident, wears bandages on his head throughout the film. The youngest Whitman, Jack, has written a short story which is strikingly similar to his own life. However, he denies those similarities. Jack obsessively listens to the messages on his ex-girlfriend's answering machine at every stop the train makes. Moreover, he has a fling with the train's beautiful stewardess Rita (Amara Karan), whom Francis nicknames "Sweet Lime" for the drinks she repeatedly offers.

Peter, the middle brother, justifies his keeping many of his late father's possessions, including his spectacles, which he wears even though they are not the right prescription, by claiming that he was their father's favorite. His wife, Alice (Camilla Rutherford), is expecting a baby, but Peter fears that their relationship may end in divorce.

At first, the three brothers get high on a cocktail of locally made drugs and pharmaceutical products. In their trips through the Indian provinces, they visit temples and markets. At one market, Francis has one of his $3000 loafers stolen by a shoe-shine boy, and Peter buys a cobra, which later escapes from its transport container. This escape results in the brothers being confined to their cabins. Francis and Peter get into a fight over Peter being the "favorite" and Jack uses the pepper spray he bought in the village to mace his brothers until they stop fighting. This is the last straw for the train's Chief Steward (Waris Ahluwalia), who is also Rita's boyfriend, and whom the three brothers have repeatedly annoyed. He throws the three of them off the train with all their luggage, leaving them in the desert. The three brothers become close again and even perform one of Francis' spiritual rituals. On their way back to civilization, they see three young boys get into trouble while attempting to pull a raft across a fast-flowing river. Jack and Francis rescue two of the boys, but Peter fails to save the third. This affects Peter deeply. In the boys' village, the three brothers are befriended by the villagers and attend the boy's funeral.

(In a flashback,) the three brothers and Alice are on the way to their father's funeral. They stop on the way to pick up their father's Porsche from the repair shop and take it with them, but the car isn't ready yet so the brothers leave.

(Back in the present,) the Whitmans get on a bus, which takes them from the village to the airport. The brothers stop for a bathroom break, during which Francis removes his bandages to shave, which reveals a number of large, bright scars on his face, but his brothers offer marginal reserved comfort. However, just as they are getting on the plane, they change their minds and decide to go and visit their mother, even though she has sent them a message telling them that their visit is not convenient. The three brothers travel to their mother's convent. The reunion is very emotional (it is learned that Francis's accident was, in fact, a suicide attempt) and the family is reunited for a time. The next morning, the three brothers find that the mother has again left her family and her children.

On the way back the three brothers run for a just-departed train, and jettison all their baggage on the railway line as they and some porters run after the train. Jack reads his new short story, which tells the story of his meeting with his ex-girlfriend in the Hotel Chevalier, and gives in, accepting that it is representative of his own life.

Francis wants to give the passports back to his brothers, but they decide that they are safer with him. The Chief Steward (who has kept Peter's snake as a pet), the businessman from the beginning, and Jack's ex-girlfriend (Natalie Portman) look out contemplatively.
