Ultimate Avengers 2 : Rise of the Panther (2006)

Ultimate Avengers 2 (also known as Ultimate Avengers 2: Rise of the Panther) is the sequel to Ultimate Avengers. The film was released on August 8, 2006. The film premiered on Cartoon Network's Toonami block on October 21, 2006 with a TV-14 rating.

T'Challa, the Prince of Wakanda, returns from the outside world to learn the kingdom is being attacked by the alien Chitauri. Herr Kleiser, the alien shape-shifter who battled Captain America during World War II, kills T' Challa's father in combat and seeks Wakanda's store of vibranium, the metal the Chitauri use to manufacture their ships and weapons. After becoming King and assuming the alias of the Black Panther, T' Challa seeks the aid of Captain America. General Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. orders the Ultimate Avengers to assemble, with the exception of Thor (who is unavailable) and the Hulk (his alter ego Bruce Banner is being kept under surveillance).

Despite a misunderstanding in which the Ultimate Avengers are attacked by the Wakandan soldiers, the Wasp (Janet van Dyne-Pym) being injured and Captain America's shield being stolen, the team rally and together with Thor battle the alien Chitauri. Banner then deduces that gamma rays will weaken vibranium and sends Betty to Wakanda with a gamma-ray projector. With this weapon the Chitauri are weakened, and Iron Man and Giant Man (Henry Pym) manage to destroy the core of an attacking Chitauri vessel. Giant-Man, however, is fatally injured and dies. The team depart with the thanks of the Black Panther, and on returning learn that Banner has become the Hulk and escaped.

Ultimate Avengers (2006)

Ultimate Avengers (also known as Ultimate Avengers: The Movie) is a direct-to-DVD animated film based on the Marvel comic book The Ultimates, and released by Lionsgate Home Entertainment. The DVD was released on February 21, 2006 in America, and in Europe on October 2, 2006. The film made its television debut on April 22, 2006 on Cartoon Network's Toonami block with a TV-14 rating.

In the last days of World War II in the European Theatre, Steve Rogers, a U.S. soldier, known as Captain America due to being enhanced with the "Super-Soldier Serum", prevents a missile launch by Nazis, which are soon revealed to be shape-shifting extraterrestrials led by one taking the form of SS officer Herr Kleiser. The missile explosion, however, sends Rogers into a catatonic state, and he falls into the icy waters of the North Atlantic, presumed dead. In the present day, Captain America is found and revived by a S.H.I.E.L.D. team led by General Nick Fury. Bruce Banner and his ex-girlfriend Betty Ross lead a team of government scientists working to recreate the Super-Soldier Serum in order to try and stop the real power that backed the Nazis - the alien Chitauri. Banner thinks the Super-Soldier Serum is the key to him controlling the Hulk, and he secretly uses his blood to try to create a cure, instead of using candidates that had been selected for the rebirth procedure.

A Chitauri attack on a S.H.I.E.L.D. satellite designed to track the Chitauri ships forces Nick Fury's superiors to order the implementation of "Project Avenger", which involves the formation of a team of superhumans. Fury tries to recruit - with mixed success - Giant-Man (a scientist who had been released from S.H.I.E.L.D prior to the film), Wasp (Giant-Man's wife), Iron Man / Tony Stark (an industrialist playboy), Thor (whose claims to be Thor are not widely accepted) and the Black Widow (a S.H.I.E.L.D. spy) - and after several setbacks, including a botched mission that led to all but Black Widow walking away from the team, the heroes unite to fight the Chitauri. Although successful, the team must then fight an enraged Hulk, after Banner released his alter ego to aid in the battle against the Chitauri before losing control. The team managed to eventually distract the Hulk long enough for Betty to calm him, and Banner is then incarcerated. The heroes then celebrate their success.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009)

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is a 2009 American film directed by Patrick Tatopoulos. It is the third installment (chronologically the first) in the Underworld series, focusing primarily on the origins of some characters and the events leading to the Vampire-Lycan war, depicted in the previous films Underworld and Underworld: Evolution.

The film tells the story of Lucian (Michael Sheen), the first werewolf able to take human form and to be called a Lycan. Viktor (Bill Nighy), a ruthless elder vampire, raises the child. Viktor kills Lucian's werewolf mother but envisions a race of werewolf slaves for his clan that could keep guard during the day and toil for the vampires. As Lucian grows up, he and Viktor's young daughter Sonja (Rhona Mitra) develop an attraction that blossoms into love in their adult years, though they keep their relationship hidden.

Viktor has a relationship with the humans of the area; he protects them from the werewolves that roam the countryside in exchange for a tithe. As human nobles meet with the vampire council for protection from the werewolves, Sonja guards them. Lucian hears the werewolves near Sonja and orders Death Dealers sent to help her. When his orders are denied, he steals a horse and sword from a nearby Death Dealer. Werewolves proceed to kill the nobles, causing Lucian to battle them. When Lucian changes into a Lycan in order to protect Sonja, the werewolves back down. Viktor, despite acknowledging that Lucian saved his daughter, feels betrayed by his favorite pet and locks Lucian away after having him brutally whipped.

With the help of the scheming vampire Andreas Tanis, Sonja orchestrates Lucian's release in exchange for her seat on the vampire council. Lucian escapes, kills several of the vampires and begins liberating the other Lycans. The guards begin slaughtering the escapees. Sonja remains behind, but when Viktor discovers that she has had a forbidden relationship with Lucian, he imprisons her. Lucian and some of the freed Lycans roam the countryside recruiting many of the labourers of the human nobles to their fight for freedom. He also travels to a cavernous location that is teeming with werewolves, attempting to contact them. The vampire nobles are outraged by the escape and growing chaos, demanding that Viktor recapture Lucian. Viktor however, knows that Lucian will come to him.

Lucian learns about Sonja's imprisonment from one of her attendants and sets out to rescue her. Lucian orders his followers to wait, but be prepared to attack if he does not return. Lucian rescues Sonja from the fortress but they are attacked by the Death Dealers. Sonja confronts Viktor and tries to get him to call off his guards by revealing that she is pregnant with Lucian's child. Disgusted, Viktor overpowers her and imprisons both her and Lucian. Sonja is sentenced to death at a trial presided over by her father and the council. Lucian is forced to witness Sonja's death, in which she is burned to death by sunlight.

Lucian awakens when Viktor comes in to view his deceased daughter. As Viktor removes the pendant necklace he gave Sonja, an enraged Lucian transforms and overpowers Viktor. Lucian takes Sonja's pendant, escaping out a window. The escape is stopped at the castle walls by Death Dealers who shoot Lucian with crossbows. With a thunderous howl, Lucian summons the freed Lycans and werewolves, who attack the coven. Viktor sends Tanis to remove the slumbering Amelia and Markus from their crypts before joining the battle with his personal guard. The council, meanwhile are overwhelmed and butchered by the rampaging werewolves.

Lucian sees Viktor entering the fray and fights his way to him. Viktor and Lucian battle their way to the catacombs. The fight continues until Lucian overcomes Viktor. Viktor's 'final' words attest to his regret at not having killed Lucian the moment he was born, to which Lucian sarcastically agrees before forcing his sword through Viktor's mouth and head and letting the body fall into the water below. Lucian emerges to the courtyard which is ringed with the surviving Lycans, werewolves and freed slaves. He declares this victory as only the beginning of what will become a war between the races. Tanis is leading a very alive Viktor into a hibernation chamber on a boat.

The film ends with the opening scene of the first Underworld, with the audio from the scene where Kraven tells Selene that it was Viktor who murdered her family, rather than the Lycans, and that Viktor spared her because she reminded him of the daughter he condemned to death; Selene replies to Kraven, "Lies"

Undisputed III: Redemption (2010)

Undisputed III: Redemption is the third installment to the 2002 action film Undisputed. The film stars Scott Adkins, Mykel Shannon Jenkins, Mark Ivanir and Hristo Shopov, and was directed by Isaac Florentine.

The film picks up several years after the Yuri Boyka's fight with George "The Iceman" Chambers. Boyka, humbled and resigned to his fate inside the prison system, has become the facility janitor and spends time mopping the hallways and sewage system. Due to his nearly crippling knee injury from his fight with Chambers, he has taken solace in religion and tried to ignore fighting—the one thing that he really loves—altogether. His former manager has begun to expand his previous enterprise of prison tournaments to extend the first ever inter-prison competition, gathering the best prison fighters from around the globe to compete for a chance at a cleared record and early release. As Boyka hears the preliminaries taking place within his prison, as well as failing in his parole, he begins training privately to bring his knee back into fighting shape. Just when the prison champion is declared, Boyka challenges him on the spot, which both the warden and his former manager, Gaga, agree to out of mutual respect and a belief that Boyka is attempting suicide and wants to die with dignity. When he easily defeats the current prison champion, they enter him as a longshot in the inter-prison tournament, while Boyka tries to hide his significant knee pain.

Boyka is transferred to Gorgon prison in the republic of Georgia where he is joined by a diverse group of prison fighters from around the globe. An American fighter, "Turbo," quickly identifies himself as a brash and insubordinate prisoner, to the chagrin of the prison warden and to Boyka, who is reminded of Chambers through the loud-mouthed American. Though the fighters are allowed one hour each day for training, they are still grouped into general population for "fresh air and general exercise," or hard labor, which Boyka uses to conceal his injury and train his leg by offering it to be chained to a rock. When a fight almost breaks out between Boyka and Turbo, they both notice that one fighter, Dolor, is getting preferential treatment. Later, the Warden privately gives Dolor both illegal drugs (presumably steroids and opiates) and private sparring sessions, showing that he his being groomed as the predetermined champion.

During the first round of fighting, Turbo wins his first match, revealing his superb speed and use of "dirty" boxing; while he has very little grappling skill and no ability to kick, he is able to defeat his opponent using elbow blocks and strikes to break the bones in his opponent's hands. As Boyka starts his first round fight, he appears to be back in top form, and he quickly defeats his opponent with his speed and agility—making him a crowd favorite immediately. Dolor also wins his fight, using a fast and brutal style. The losers are later escorted out of the prison under the guise of being transferred back to their home penitentiaries; however, they are summarily shot by waiting guards, revealing that losing fighters will be treated as loose ends.

As hard labor continues the following day, Boyka is chained to Turbo for the duration, where Turbo successfully provokes a fight. After a quick scuffle in which Boyka finishes dominant in grappling, they are broken up and put into isolation by the guards. Still within earshot, Turbo continues to verbally jab at Boyka's confidence, having saying Boyka's sneak attack was a"Bitch Move" and by stating that Boyka shouldn't be here. However, as the isolation continues, Turbo begins to wear down mentally while Boyka wears down physically; forced to stand, Turbo is psychologically distraught when he realizes that he has to defecate while standing and that he cannot see the rats moving around at his feet, whereas Boyka, who is used to the dirt and darkness, struggles more with the pain in his knee, which he cannot elevate to relieve.

The two are eventually released due to some manipulations by their managers, Gaga and Farnatti, who are old friends and rivals. When the managers find out about how their fighters are being treated, they (now thoroughly enraged) confront the warden. Rezo, the chief mastermind behind the tournament, who is also present explains to the managers that the tournament has always been fixed to ensure the "highest profit at the lowest risk." Though the managers are upset, having believed this to be a straight, sporting tournament (and thinly concealing their own concern for their respective fighters), Rezo recommends with complete honesty that they liquefy their assets and bet on Dolor to walk home rich men. The managers, realizing that their loyalties to their fighters only extend to their payout, agree to this arrangement.

Slowly, Turbo and Boyka begin to trust each other during hard labor, as they are often chained together and forced into cooperate. At first they direct their anger towards fighting again in the ring, but later start to turn their attention toward beating Dolor. The two begin training alongside, each using the other for motivation. As their prowess gets noticed, they are put to more hard labor and deprived of food to ensure the "fix" for the fights. As Turbo starts to wear down, Boyka reveals his strategy for turning the situation around: use the hard labor as part of the training. With Turbo's attitude eroding, he starts showing signs that his ego evolved from a highly disciplined past as a US Marine. In addition to reciting, "Improvise, Adapt, Overcome" as part of his training, he recommends some holistic medicine for Boyka to soothe his knee.

In the semi-finals, Boyka defeats the contender from Brazil in a much more difficult match. After winning by submission, for the first time he helps his opponent up from the mat and states, "Good fight." Unfortunately, Rezo and the warden realize that Boyka and Turbo are stronger than predicted. In a preemptive strategy, they isolate Turbo and provoke him into attacking the warden so that the guards have a justification in beating him before his match with Dolor.

When the prisoners are taken for the next round of hard labor, Boyka tries to convince Turbo into escaping rather than face Dolor wounded. Knowing that Turbo used to be in the military, the plan is to escape to the forest where the security is lightest and survive long enough to eventually get in touch with the black market. Turbo initially disagrees, until another prisoner reveals that the losers are executed. Caught trying to break their chain, the two fight off the guards who are armed only with clubs long enough to get a key. Freed, Turbo heads for the forest.

Boyka is returned to the prison where he is confronted by Rezo, the warden, and Gaga. Knowing for certain that he has lost all support, he commits himself to ruining their wagers by defeating Dolor in the newly-improvised final round. Dolor takes an early lead with his exceptionally quick hand blocks and strikes, as well as exacerbating the problems with Boyka's weak knee by using a submission hold on it. Deprived of his kicking ability and agility, Boyka recovers first by relying on his endurance and pain tolerance, persevering past some devastating hits. It looks like the fight is over when he is kicked out of the ring, but when he catches a glimpse of the bucket and mop used for sopping up blood after the bouts, which bears a striking resemblance to his mop and bucket used during his training, he gets back into the ring before the ten-count. Remembering Turbo's mantra, "Improvise, Adapt, Overcome," he takes the pad off the mop and ties it around his knee. Forced to adapt, he begins using a new style mixing in elements of grappling, dirty boxing head-butts and elbows, wrestling, and wu-shu. Dolor, in a final moment of rage, breaks his shin against Boyka's knee block, ending the match.

Desperate and despondent, Farnatti confronts the warden and shoots Rezo over the money that he's lost before being shot by the warden himself. Despite winning the tournament, Boyka is not allowed to go free because the guards have not found Turbo. Because Boyka was responsible for his escape, the arrangement is that Turbo will remain free while Boyka will be transferred back to his original prison, to which Boyka responds that he does not care—he has proven his point. Like the other prisoners, Boyka is instead taken out to be shot, but he is rescued at the last minute by Turbo in a moment of surprising marksmanship. The two retreat to a waiting car where Gaga sits inside with a load of money. He reveals that he always knew Boyka was the best fighter in the world, especially when he was angry, so he bet all of his money on him all along and deceived the other managers—even going so far as to rescue and hide Turbo when he escaped. Boyka decides to part ways, finally revealing his first name, Yuri to Turbo. In turn, Turbo confesses that his real name is "Jericho," not realizing that Boyka has a special appreciation for religious references. In gratitude, he thanks Turbo for "bringing down the walls" and setting him free.Turbo then requests a match with Boyka in future and Boyka accepts. The movie ends with Boyka running and laughing with a sign that says "Bon Voyage".

Undisputed II: Last Man Standing (2006)

Undisputed II: Last Man Standing is a 2006 direct-to-video sequel to the 2002 action film Undisputed. The film stars Michael Jai White, Scott Adkins, Eli Danker and Ben Cross, and was directed by Isaac Florentine. This film doesn't feature any of the cast members of the first film, which included Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames.

Visiting the Russian Federation for a series of boxing matches, George "Iceman" Chambers is subsequently framed for possession of Heroin and sent to prison. There, he discovers a series of illegal full-contact Mixed Martial Arts matches dominated by inmate Yuri Boyka. The prison officials arrange these fights and place large side-bets to make a personal profit, often at the expense of the fighters.

Once inside, the warden and legal adviser for Chambers state that if he fights Yuri in the ring, he will likely get an expedited appeal and early release. He initially refuses, but after spending time in demeaning physical labor in the prison's sewer system and experiencing firsthand the brutality of the guards, he reluctantly agrees. He is rescued from both forms of humiliation by a crippled inmate, Crot (Eli Danker). Both fighters train hard for the match, though Chambers still relies on his boxing background while Boyka prepares a series of deadly kicks, throws, and grappling combinations designed to humiliate his opponent in the ring.

Prior to the fight however, the warden and government officials make a quiet pact to ensure that Chambers will lose, arranging a deal with his crooked corner and manager to spike his water with a light sedative.

During the fight, Chambers is somewhat taken by surprise at the flurry and variety of Boyka's attacks, but manages to hold his own through the first two rounds by keeping his distance, staying calm, and dealing out painful punching combinations whenever possible. As the fight progresses, Chambers begins using pushes and shoves to keep Boyka away. At the end of the second round, his corner slips the drugged water into Chambers' mouth and he takes a few sips. During the third round, he starts to lose his focus and begins taking more and more punishment until Boyka knocks him out with a devastating flying kick.

After the fight, both fighters are outraged at the outcome, though for different reasons. Boyka is distraught because he believes himself to be the first practitioner of the "ultimate fighting form," and he is dismayed that the supervising officials threw the match. Feeling confident in his own abilities, he immediately seeks out Chambers for clean rematch as a matter of pride. Similarly, when Chambers discovers that the fight was rigged (and his deal is off), he asks for a rematch as well mainly to ensure his release. He makes a bet that he can defeat Boyka to win his freedom, though the officials also offer a substantial cash incentive to make sure that Chambers trains hard.

Realizing that his corner was crooked, Chambers seeks help from Crot, who then reveals that he helped train Boyka in his fighting style. Crot is actually a former soldier and martial arts expert who committed murder in order to protect his family. However, he feels this guilt so acutely, as well as a feeling of alienation from his family, that he has resigned himself to permanent confinement. Even so, his desire to see justice for both Chambers and Boyka inspires him to reeducate Chambers in mixed martial arts techniques. Working together, the two practice grapples, holds, and kicks which stretch Chambers' abilities. As the training continues and Chambers improves, the two begin to form a bond and relate their individual philosophy of fighting. Chambers begins to extend his mental discipline from the ring into his private life, while Crot begins catching some of Chambers' ambition, specifically and narrow and slim hope that he might one day be released and reconcile with his family.

Near the end of the training, Crot teaches Chambers a devious leg Joint lock designed to end the fight. He somberly instructs Chambers to use it to its full effectiveness if he gets the opportunity. Since Boyka enjoys brutalizing his opponents and other inmates with a passion that borderlines on sadism, and his mixture of personal pride and high tolerance for pain make it unlikely that he will submit, Crot instructs Chambers not to hesitate and to break Boyka's leg to end the fight if he gets the chance. Chambers agrees, but privately believes that he can fight Boyka to a knock-out.

Once the fight begins it is apparent to all the viewers that the combatants are much more evenly matched and Chambers is much more impressive in his style. The fight is long and intense, with flurries of combinations, grapples, and throws traded between the two. Eventually, Chambers realizes that Boyka will not lose consciousness, will not submit, and will likely knock him out if the fight goes on too long. Chambers alters his strategy and manages to get Boyka in the joint lock and ends the fight by breaking Boyka's leg, proving that he is the undisputed new champion of the prison.

Shortly thereafter, Chambers is released from prison and uses his winnings to buy Crot's freedom as well. In a final scene, he wheels Crot, who is now cleaned up and in possession of several gifts, to a train station to meet with his estranged niece in a happy reunion. Crot thanks Chambers for giving him the remainder of the winnings to start his life again, while Chambers expresses his gratitude for the help and training. Crot then meets with his niece and the two embrace for the first time.

Undisputed (2002)

Undisputed is a 2002 action-thriller-drama movie released through Miramax. It starred and was co-produced by Wesley Snipes, co-starring Ving Rhames.

The film was directed and produced by Walter Hill, and written by David Giler and Hill, who is probably best known as the writer/director of 48 Hrs. and Streets of Fire, but had most recently directed Supernova. He and Giler had previously collaborated on the Alien series and Southern Comfort.

A direct-to-video sequel without any of the original cast members Undisputed II: Last Man Standing was released in 2006. A second sequel, Undisputed III: Redemption was released in 2010 following Undisputed II's Yuri Boyka as the main character.

Chambers arrives at the prison and, arrogant and rude, mocks the warden telling him "I'm better than you, the press love me". Immediately after this Chambers learns of Monroe's undisputed status as prison boxing champion and immediately there is bad blood, Chambers not wanting to be second to anyone tries and fails to intimidate a relaxing Monroe. It leads to a lunch-room confrontation between the men, where Iceman makes several empty threats against Monroe, who ignores the loudmouth in a display of cool and confidence which angers Iceman. Seeing this; Ripstein, who is a true historian and lover of boxing, arranges worldwide betting on the big fight to see which one is the real undisputed champ. Following this we learn that it was Monroe who was punished with solitary confinement, despite it being Iceman who initiated the fight in the lunchroom; in an aside we note a half completed model of the Eiffel Tower on a table in the middle of the solitary cell.

Noticeably whilst George "Iceman" Chambers persists in causing violence and upsetting the established order, whilst also vehemently denying his Guilt for the Rape; Monroe Hutchen is completely the opposite, he openly admits to the murder he committed, is quiet, reflective and assured of his abilities. Iceman is offered a 'gift' by the leader of a powerful drug gang in the form of a male prostitute, however a violent and homophobic Iceman jumps up, indulges in a ferocious bout of gay bashing and then tries to kill the leader of the Drug Gang, claiming he is the hardest convict in the prison. This instigates a prison riot, one which Monroe watches from two floors up, laughing at Chambers's childish behaviour.

Soon Iceman beats up, hits and mocks one person too many; and finally upsets everyone in the prison and they offer Monroe the chance to drug Iceman in advance of the fight, which Monroe refuses, knowing he can bring Iceman down, using his old saying "no matter how good you are, everybody can be beat". Meanwhile Ripstein's criminal associates try to bribe a convict who is assigned to protect Ripstein, Ratbag Dolan, to aid them in rigging the match. However, Dolan soon comes to realize that Ripstein wants a legitimate fight and refuses the offer.

Ripstein is excited and joyous at the prospect of the boxing match and tries to negoiate for a bare-knuckle boxing match, however the Govenor refuses this and Ratbag persuades Ripstein that using boxing gloves will lengthen the fight and this will make for a better match, Ripstein, having taken a shine to Ratbag, agrees to drop the bare knuckle option and allow the use of boxing gloves.

As the tension mounts we see a flashback to Monroe's conviction 10 years ago, the champion boxer came home to find his neighbor in bed with his wife. Outraged Monroe smacked the man in the head and then punched him to death in a fit of anger, he was informed that as a professional Boxer he could "Respond with Deadly experience and force" and was sentenced to Life in prison with no Parole, ever; meaning Monroe will die in prison.

Later, Iceman and Monroe finally step into the ring to prove that only one of them is the undisputed champion. Iceman and Monroe start the fight just feeling each other out, both scoring damaging hits; then Iceman knocks Monroe down in the first round. Next round begins in the same fashion with Iceman and Monroe trading blows; again Monroe is knocked down and visibly hurt. Third round begins with Monroe taking more hits from Iceman, but Monroe dodges a right hook from the Iceman and counters with a left hook that staggers Iceman to the point of Monroe hitting him without defending himself and knocking him down for the first time in his fighting career. Iceman becomes furious and the next round begins. Monroe and Iceman continue to trade blows; Iceman throws another right hook with all of his power behind it but Monroe dodges and hits Iceman with a barrage of punches. After a devastating right hook, Monroe wins the fight via knockout.

Six Months later Ripstein has died from from Chronic Liver Cancer and has made the following contributions, Iceman is given early Parole, Monroe Hutchen is moved to a nicer, larger and generally more accommodating cell and Ratbag is given $370 billion in legitimate money, held in trust until his five year stretch for car theft and armed robbery is served. Ratbag notes, in an internal monologue, that he no longer has an excuse to be a criminal which is good. Finally he tells the Viewer that Iceman and his Press team have denied that the fight with Monroe ever happened. When the whole prison watches Iceman regain his 'World Champion' Title on TV they all mock the Announcer claim that George is "Undisputed".

As the prisoners chant his name again an oblivious Monroe completes a Matchstick model of the Eiffel Tower, the same one from earlier. A freeze frame occurs and a message appears next to Monroe's head, Name: Monroe Hutchen Record: 69 wins 0 losses; Undisputed. The film then cuts straight to the end credits.

Unforgiven (1992)

Unforgiven is a 1992 American Western film produced and directed by Clint Eastwood with a screenplay written by David Webb Peoples. The film tells the story of William Munny, an aging outlaw and killer who takes on one more job years after he had hung up his guns and turned to farming. A dark Western that deals frankly with the uglier aspects of violence and the myth of the Old West, it stars Eastwood in the lead role, with Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, and Richard Harris.

Eastwood dedicated the movie to deceased directors and mentors Don Siegel and Sergio Leone. The film won four Academy Awards including Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Hackman), Best Director, Best Film Editing and Best Picture. Eastwood himself was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance, but he lost to Al Pacino for Scent of a Woman. In 2004, Unforgiven was added to the United States National Film Registry as being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

The film was only the third western to win the Oscar for Best Picture following Cimarron (1931) and Dances With Wolves (1990).

A group of prostitutes in Big Whiskey, Wyoming, offers a $1,000 reward to whoever can kill two cowboys who disfigured one of them (Anna Levine). This upsets the local sheriff, a former gunfighter known as Little Bill Daggett (Gene Hackman), who doesn't allow guns or assassins in his town.

Miles away, in Kansas, the Schofield Kid (Jaimz Woolvett), a boastful young man, visits the farm of William Munny (Clint Eastwood), seeking to recruit him to kill the cowboys. In his youth, Munny was a bandit who was notorious for being a vicious, cold-blooded murderer, but is now a widower raising two children on a pig farm. Though Munny initially refuses to help with the assassination, his pigs are sick, putting his children's future in jeopardy, so he reconsiders a few days later and sets off to catch up with the Kid. On his way, Munny recruits Ned Logan (Morgan Freeman), another retired gunfighter who reluctantly leaves his wife to go along.

Back in Wyoming, gunfighter English Bob (Richard Harris) and his biographer, W. W. Beauchamp (Saul Rubinek), arrive in Big Whiskey, also seeking the reward. Little Bill and his deputies disarm Bob and Bill savagely beats him, hoping to set an example for other would-be assassins. While Bob is in jail, Bill plays a psychological game in which Beauchamp is allowed to present a firearm to Bob: believing this to be an unloaded gun trick, Bob refuses to take it. When Bill shows it to be loaded with five shots, he tells Bob he did the right thing refusing the gun. The next morning, Bob is ejected from town; however, Beauchamp decides to stay and write about Bill, who has impressed him with his tales of old gunfights and seeming knowledge of the inner workings of a gunfighter's psyche.

Munny, Logan and the Kid arrive in Big Whiskey amid a rain storm and head to the whorehouse to find out where the cowboys are. Munny has a bad fever after riding in the rain, and is sitting alone in the saloon when Little Bill and his deputies arrive to confront him. Little Bill has no idea who Munny is and informs him that firearms are not allowed in Big Whiskey and asks him his name and if he is armed. Munny gives him a false name and tells him he isn't carrying a weapon. Bill searches him and finds his gun, then he beats him and kicks him into the street. Logan and the Kid, upstairs getting "advances" on their payment from the prostitutes, escape out a back window.

The three regroup at a barn outside of town, where they nurse Munny back to health. Three days later, they ambush a group of cowboys and kill one of the targets — though it becomes apparent that Logan and Munny no longer have much stomach for murder. Logan decides he will not stick around to kill the second cowboy and sets off back home. Munny and the Kid head to the cowboys' ranch, where the Kid ambushes the second target in an outhouse and kills him. After they escape, the now distraught Kid confesses he had never killed anyone before.

When a prostitute meets the two men to give them the reward, they learn that Logan was captured by Little Bill's men. He was tortured to death, but not before giving up the identities of his two accomplices. When he learns of his friend's death, Munny takes a swig from the Kid's bottle of whiskey. Munny, whose drinking had led to him to commit deplorable acts in the past, had refused alcohol until this point. The Kid heads back to Kansas to deliver the reward money to Munny and Logan's families, while Munny heads into town to get revenge for Logan's death.

That night, Logan's corpse is displayed outside the saloon as a warning to all assassins. Inside, Little Bill has assembled a posse to pursue Munny and the Kid. Munny walks in with a double-barreled shotgun and shoots Skinny Dubois the owner/pimp. After a tense moment of exchanged dialogue, Munny turns his attention to Bill, but the shotgun misfires. Munny then hurls the shotgun at Bill who draws his gun, fires, and misses. A gunfight ensues, in which Munny shoots five men, including Little Bill. When the shooting stops, Munny orders everyone out, then starts drinking whiskey at the bar.

Beauchamp crawls out from behind a body and asks Munny about the order in which he shot Bill and his men, but Munny quickly tires of his questions and sends him on his way. Bill, who is wounded, attempts to shoot Munny, but is quickly disarmed and when Munny hears him cock his pistol. Bill implores Munny to show mercy, but Munny refuses, and finishes Bill with a final gunshot. Before exiting the saloon, Munny orders everyone to stay out of sight, threatening to kill anyone who does not comply. He warns the townsfolk that he will return and kill everyone if they do not bury Ned properly or if anyone harms one of the prostitutes again. The final scene is a silhouette of Munny's farm. Scrolling text says that Munny was rumored to have moved to San Francisco and "prospered in dry goods."

Universal Soldier: Regeneration (2009)

Universal Soldier: Regeneration (also known in some countries as Universal Soldier: A New Beginning) is the third theatrically released film in the Universal Soldier feature film series. It is a reboot directed by John Hyams (son of director Peter Hyams, who previously worked with Bryce Brown on two films, 1994's Timecop and 1995's Sudden Death; in this film Peter is the director of photography) with the screenplay written by Victor Ostrovsky. It stars Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren, who both reprise their roles from the first film. The film is direct sequel to Universal Soldier from 1992, unrelated to the two Universal Soldier television sequels that were produced in 1998 and ignores the events from the 1999 sequel Universal Soldier: The Return.

MMA fighter Andrei Arlovski stars as 'NGU' (Next Generation UniSol), a Universal Soldier of the latest type, along with fellow MMA fighter Mike Pyle as Capt. Kevin Burke. Tekken star Jon Foo appears as a cameo in the film as one of the four UniSols. The film was released theatrically in the Middle East and Southeast Asia and directly to video in the United States and other parts of the world.

A group of terrorists led by Commander Topov (Zahary Baharov) kidnap the Russian prime minister's son and daughter and hold them hostage, demanding the release of their comrades within 72 hours. In addition, they have taken over the crippled Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and threaten to detonate it if their demands are not met. It is revealed that among the ranks of the terrorists is a Next-Generation UniSol (NGU) (Andrei Arlovski), who was smuggled in by rogue scientist Dr. Colin (Kerry Shale). U.S. forces bring in troops at the plant, but quickly retreat when the four UniSols revived for this mission are systematically eliminated by the NGU.

Meanwhile, former UniSol Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme), who is being rehabilitated in Switzerland by Dr. Sandra Fleming (Emily Joyce) to rejoin society, is taken back by the military to participate in the mission. As the deadline nears its expiration, the prime minister announces the release of 110 prisoners. The terrorists rejoice and shut off their bomb. Dr. Colin, however, is not pleased with the outcome, as he feels his side of the business is not done. As the NGU is programmed not to harm the terrorists, Dr. Colin unleashes his second UniSol: a cloned and upgraded version of Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren) - Deveraux's former nemesis, who quickly kills Commander Topov. Unfortunately, Dr. Colin never considered the mental instability of Scott, and he is immediately killed by his own creation. Scott then reactivates the bomb before heading out to hunt the children.

In the midst of the chaos, Capt. Kevin Burke (Mike Pyle) is sent in to infiltrate the plant and rescue the prime minister's children. He is successful in locating them and decides to lead them out of the building. On their way out, they encounter NGU. The children flee for safety as Burke fends off NGU in vain, finally being stabbed to death after a long fight.

With 30 minutes remaining, Deveraux is geared up and sent to the plant, where he kills every terrorist in sight. He searches the buildings further and sees the children cornered by Scott. Before Scott gets a chance to kill the children, Deveraux attacks him, and a grueling fight ensues. In the end, Deveraux impales Scott on the forehead with a lead pipe and fires a shotgun through it, blowing his brains out.

As Deveraux escorts the children to safety, they are attacked by the NGU. Deveraux and the NGU take the fight to the site of the bomb, with less than two minutes remaining. During the melee, Deveraux removes the detonator and jams it in the back of the NGU's uniform as they both jump out the reactor chamber. NGU pulls the detonator off his back, but it is too late, as it explodes, taking him with it. U.S. soldiers quickly arrive on the scene and tend to the children as Deveraux runs away. Meanwhile, Burke's body is placed in a black bag and taken away, as well as pieces of the NGU being collected.

Back in Langley, Virginia, Burke's body is stored in a cryogenic chamber as a new UniSol, along with multiple clones made of him.

Universal Soldier: The Return (1999)

Universal Soldier: The Return is a 1999 American science fiction action film directed by Mic Rodgers and starred Jean-Claude Van Damme, Michael Jai White, professional wrestler Bill Goldberg, Heidi Schanz, Kiana Tom and Xander Berkeley as Doctor Dylan Cotner., it was the second theatrical film in the Universal Soldier series, following two made-for-TV movies, Universal Soldier II: Brothers in Arms and Universal Soldier III: Unfinished Business.

Seven years after the events in the first film, Luc Devereaux (Van Damme) is now a technical expert who is working with the government with his partner Maggie (Kiana Tom), who's been through countless hours of training and combat with him, to refine and perfect the UniSol program in an effort to make a new, stronger breed of soldier that is more sophisticated, intelligent, and agile.

All of the new UniSols, which are faster and stronger than the original Unisols, are connected through an artificially intelligent computer system called S.E.T.H. (voice of Michael Jai White), a Self-Evolving Thought Helix.

When S.E.T.H. discovers that the Universal Soldier program is scheduled to be shut down because of budget cuts, he takes matters into his own "hands" to protect himself.

Killing those who try to shut off his power, and unleashing his platoon of super soldiers, led by the musclebound Romeo (Bill Goldberg), S.E.T.H. spares Devereaux, only because Deveraux has the secret code that is needed to deactivate a built-in program that will shut S.E.T.H. down in a matter of hours. With the help of Squid (Brent Hinkley), a rogue cyberpunk, S.E.T.H. takes human form (White).

Not only must Luc contend with ambitious reporter Erin Young (Schanz), who would not leave his side, but Luc also must contend with General Radford (Daniel von Bargen) who wants to take extreme measures to stop S.E.T.H.. S.E.T.H. has arranged Romeo to kidnap Luc's injured 13-year-old daughter Hillary (Karis Paige Bryant), killing Maggie in the process.

Luc is the only person who can rescue Hillary, because Luc knows firsthand how a UniSol thinks, feels, and fights. Luc infiltrates the UniSol building, but finds Maggie, now revived as one of the UniSols. Luc and S.E.T.H. begin fighting each other in hand-to-hand combat at the end Luc freezes S.E.T.H. with liquid nitrogen, then shatters S.E.T.H.'s frozen body, killing him. Luc then engages into a fight with Romeo, which ends when Maggie finally rebels against the UniSols by shooting Romeo, and allows Luc and Hillary to get out of the building on time. However, the bomb that General Radford had placed was deactivated by S.E.T.H.. As Romeo and the platoon of Universal Soldiers start to march out for battle, Luc fires at the explosive charge blowing up the building, killing all the Universal Soldiers.

Universal Soldier (1992)

Unleashed (also known as Danny the Dog), is a 2005 American-British-French martial arts action thriller film directed by Louis Leterrier and written by Luc Besson. Film stars Jet Li, Bob Hoskins, Morgan Freeman and Kerry Condon. It is set and filmed onsite in Glasgow.

In 1969, during the Vietnam War, an American military squad receives orders to secure a village against North Vietnamese forces. Private Luc Devereaux (Jean-Claude Van Damme) discovers members of his squad and various villagers dead, all with their ears removed. The culprit behind the mutilations is revealed to be leading officer Sergeant Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren), who has gone insane. Deveraux finds Scott holding a string of severed ears and also holding a young boy and girl hostage.

Devereaux, who is near the end of his tour of duty, tries to reason with Scott, saying that the war is over and that he just wants to go home. Scott becomes infuriated and shoots the boy. He then orders Devereaux to shoot the girl to prove his loyalty. Deveraux refuses and stops Scott from shooting her himself. The girl attempts to escape but Scott kills her with a grenade. Devereaux turns on Scott and both shoot each other to death. The next morning, a U.S. Special Forces squad finds their bodies. The commanding officer orders the bodies to be bagged and iced and to officially cover up their deaths as "missing in action".

In 1992, terrorists have taken over the Hoover Dam and the police agencies are ordered not to intervene or make any attempt to rescue the hostages. Instead, the "Universal Soldiers" (or "UniSols"), an elite counter terrorism unit, are brought in. Among the team are the long-dead Luc Devereaux (now designated "GR44") and Andrew Scott (now designated "GR13"). They are wearing high-tech computer equipment over their left eye and have apparently been reanimated with no memory of their previous lives.

Devereaux and Scott are sent in to dispatch several of the terrorists, with Devereaux using efficient means, but Scott using excessive force. Their camera feeds sent back to the command post causes concern among the project technicians that even though the UniSols are supposed to be emotionless, Scott is enjoying it. As the team infiltrate the area, they demonstrate their superior training and physical abilities against the armed terrorists, as one of them (Ralf Möller as GR74) is shown surviving close-range automatic gunfire.

After the area is secured, Devereaux begins to regain patches of memory from his former life after witnessing two hostages who strongly resemble the villagers he tried to save back in Vietnam. Turning around, he looks at Scott (who is also experiencing the same memory) but as a UniSol, he cannot say anything. This causes him to ignore radio commands from the control team and become unresponsive.

Back in the mobile command center, the Unisol technician team is trying to figure out what happened at Hoover Dam with Devereaux. They reveal that the UniSols are genetically augmented soldiers with enhanced healing abilities and superior strength but also have a tendency to overheat and shut down. They are also given a neural serum to keep their minds under control and their previous memories suppressed. All of the UniSols are ordered to go back into their cooling units and inject themselves with the serum. As a result of the glitch, Woodward (Leon Rippy), one of the technicians on the project, feels it may be better to remove Devereaux from the team until he can be further analyzed. However, Colonel Perry (Ed O'Ross), the commander in charge of the UniSol operation, disagrees with the suggestion.

TV journalist Veronica Roberts (Ally Walker) tries to get a story on the UniSol project in an attempt to get her job back, since she was fired while covering the Hoover Dam incident. Speaking with representatives from the project, she only gets evasive answers. She later sneaks onto the base with a camera to investigate, only to discover GR74, immersed in ice, who is still alive despite normally-fatal injuries.

When she tries to escape from the complex, Devereaux and Scott are ordered to bring her back. She gets to her cameraman's car, but they crash and overturn while trying to escape. Scott mercilessly executes the cameraman, against the orders of his superiors, while Devereaux intervenes, preventing him from shooting Roberts. Together, Devereaux and Roberts both escape in a UniSol vehicle.

After escaping, Scott mumbles about Devereaux being a traitor, but no one on the UniSol team heard it. Colonel Perry wants to chase Roberts and Devereaux down to prevent knowledge of the UniSols from getting out, not only to the public, but to the Pentagon, who does not know the true nature of the project.

As Devereaux and Roberts flee and try to get evidence of the UniSol program to the media, they arrive at a motel. Roberts turns on the television and discovers she has already been framed for the murder of her cameraman. Scott's previously insane personality begins to emerge, causing him to kill innocents. Perry and the technicians are killed as they attempt to stop him. Scott then takes command over the UniSol team, ambushing a truck stop and a supermarket in his search for Devereaux. The remaining UniSol scientists try and fail to subdue Scott and are both killed.

Devereaux continues to rebuild his memory and realize that he is truly alive. Roberts tries to find more information about the UniSol program. They meet Dr. Christopher Gregor (Jerry Orbach), the creator of the program. He informs them that the UniSol project was started in the 1960's in order to develop the perfect soldier. Although they learned how to reanimate dead human remains, they were never able to overcome the bodies need for constant cooling. The other major problem is that the memories of the last moments of life are greatly amplified. In Luc's case, he still believes he is a soldier who wants to go home, while Scott believes he is still in Vietnam fighting the insurgents.

When Devereaux and Roberts leave the doctor's office, they are caught and arrested by the police. On the way to jail, the police convoy is ambushed by Scott and GR74. After an intense chase, they barely manage to escape when the police bus and the UniSol truck both drive off the edge of a cliff at Grand Canyon and explode. Presuming that Scott and GR74 are all dead, Devereaux and Roberts head to Luc's family's farm in Louisiana.

After Devereaux reunites with his family, Scott tracks them down and takes the family and Roberts hostage. A brutal fight ensues, and Scott's use of muscle enhancers enables him to mercilessly beat Devereaux. Roberts manages to escape from her bonds only to be seemingly killed by a grenade thrown by Scott. He continues to dominate until Devereaux grabs the muscle enhancers Scott used and injects himself with one. With their strengths now matched, Devereaux fights back and is able to impale Scott on the spikes of a hay harvester. Devereaux then starts the machine up, grinding Scott to death. Finally, Devereaux checks on Roberts, who survived the explosion and the two embrace.

Unleashed (2005)

Unleashed (also known as Danny the Dog), is a 2005 American-British-French martial arts action thriller film directed by Louis Leterrier and written by Luc Besson. Film stars Jet Li, Bob Hoskins, Morgan Freeman and Kerry Condon. It is set and filmed onsite in Glasgow.

Bart (Bob Hoskins) is a vicious loan shark whose method of persuading men to pay him back involves Danny (Jet Li), a man with the mentality of a child; only if a metal collar around his neck is removed by Bart will he become a violently skilled fighter who stops at nothing to take down his targets. But once the collar is on, Danny is a harmless, withdrawn person, with very little knowledge of how to live as a socialized person, constantly bullied by his master Bart.

One day, Bart realizes he can end his loan shark career by regularly attending an underground fighting tournament and registering Danny to fight; in exchange, if Danny can win and survive the fights, he receives good money. However, a mishap with another criminal leaves Bart critically injured; Danny runs off to an antique warehouse for shelter, where he had met a kindly piano tuner earlier. Two days later he finds himself in the company of Sam (Morgan Freeman) and his adopted daughter Victoria in their apartment, and he starts a new life with the benevolent family; curiously he is drawn closer to music while spending time with Victoria. He also develops curiosity about who his mother was when he learns from Sam and Victoria what a family is.

Weeks later Sam informs Danny about moving back to New York, where he and Victoria are originally from. He invites Danny, telling him they think of him as family, and Danny happily accepts. However, Danny runs into Bart’s right-hand man Lefty in the streets and is forced back to Bart. At the underground arena, a fight is set between Danny and deadly martial artists to the death. Despite Danny’s pleas, Bart shoves him into the pit, where he is pummeled by four fighters. Danny eventually retaliates, but refuses to kill them. Enraged by Danny’s change of character, Bart shuts him back to his cage. That night, however, Danny sneaks through his door and goes through photographs of Bart’s favorite prostitutes, finally finding one snapshot of who appears to be Danny’s own mother. He interrogates Bart, who tells him that she was simply a prostitute who is long gone. He angrily promises to make Danny repay him for the money he had lost.

Next morning, however, Danny manages to escape and runs back to Sam and Victoria, telling them what he had learned and where he was. With the two's help, Danny regains memories from his childhood past: his mother was a music student with no money, so she offered herself to Bart to get some to pay for her lessons. But one day, Bart shot her when she defied him. Bart has been raising Danny ever since, not as a human being, but as a dog.

Bart and a plethora of thugs arrive to capture Danny. Frantic, Danny hides Sam and Victoria in their closet, and he runs out to take out the thugs in the building and on the rooftop. He then faces off against an attacker (Michael Ian Lambert) with skills similar to, if not greater than his own, eventually causing him to fall to his death on Bart's car. A vengeful Bart pursues him through the building, finally catching him in Sam's apartment. He threatens to pull the trigger, all the while telling him that he was never meant for a different kind of lifestyle. But he drops the gun and instead takes out a collar, telling Danny to come home. Danny slowly advances toward the collar, but stops Bart at the last minute and disarms him. He proceeds to furiously beat Bart. Sam and Victoria both burst out and frantically beg Danny not to kill; however, a defeated Bart orders Danny otherwise. Bart then tells Danny he will always be an animal, to which Sam responds by smashing a flower pot on his head, knocking him unconscious. Some time later, Danny is with Sam at a piano recital, where Victoria is getting ready to perform. Realizing Victoria is playing what his mother played years ago, Danny sheds a happy tear.

Up in the Air (2009)

Up in the Air is a 2009 American comedy-drama film directed by Jason Reitman and co-written by Reitman and Sheldon Turner. It is a film adaptation of the 2001 novel of the same name, written by Walter Kirn. The story is about a corporate downsizer Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) and his travels. The film follows his isolated life and philosophies along with the people he meets along the way. Filming was primarily in St. Louis, Missouri, which substituted for a number of other cities shown in the film. Several scenes were also filmed in Detroit, Michigan, Omaha, Nebraska, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Miami, Florida.

Reitman heavily promoted Up in the Air with personal appearances during film festivals and other showings, starting with the Telluride Film Festival on September 5, 2009. The Los Angeles premiere was at the Mann Village Theater on Monday, November 30, 2009. Paramount scheduled a limited North American release on December 4, 2009, broadening the release on December 11, 2009, with a wide release on December 23, 2009.

The National Board of Review and the Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association named Up in the Air the best picture of 2009. It received eight Broadcast Film Critics Association nominations and garnered a win for Adapted Screenplay, six Golden Globe nominations, earning a win for Best Screenplay, and three Screen Actors Guild nominations. It received six Academy Award nominations, but did not win in any category. Up in the Air also received recognition from numerous critics' associations.

Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) makes his living traveling to workplaces around the United States and breaking the news to workers that they have been let go for employers unwilling to do it themselves. Ryan also delivers motivational speeches, using the analogy "What's In Your Backpack?" to extol the virtues of a life free of burdens like relationships with people as well as things, arguing that the best way to live is to travel light, with little to hold you down.

Ryan relishes his perpetual travels. His personal ambition is to earn ten million frequent flyer miles with American Airlines. While traveling, he meets another frequent flyer named Alex (Vera Farmiga). They begin a casual relationship, meeting whenever they can arrange to cross paths.

Ryan is unexpectedly called back to his company's offices in Omaha, Nebraska. An ambitious, freshly graduated new hire, Natalie Keener (Anna Kendrick) is promoting a plan to cut costs by conducting layoffs via videoconferencing. Ryan argues that Natalie knows nothing about the actual process, live or not, as she has never fired anyone and does not know how to handle upset people. He plays the role of a fired employee to show her inexperience. His boss (Jason Bateman) assigns him to take Natalie with him on his next round of terminations, much to his annoyance.

As they travel together and become better acquainted, Natalie questions Ryan's philosophy, but he is satisfied with his lifestyle. During the trip, Natalie is shattered when her boyfriend unceremoniously dumps her by text message. Ryan and Alex try to comfort her. Natalie later lectures Ryan about his refusal to consider a commitment to Alex in spite of their obvious compatibility, and becomes infuriated; she apologizes later, but soon afterwards they are ordered back to Omaha to begin implementing Natalie's program. There are problems during a test run; one laid off man breaks down in tears before the camera, and she is unable to comfort him.

Instead of returning immediately to Omaha, Ryan convinces Alex to accompany him to his younger sister Julie's (Melanie Lynskey) wedding near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He learns that the reason that Julie had him take photos of a cutout picture of her and future husband Jim (Danny McBride) in various places is because they cannot afford a honeymoon trip. When Jim gets cold feet, Ryan’s older sister talks Ryan into using his motivational skills to persuade Jim to go through with it. Although this runs counter to Ryan's personal philosophy of non-commitment, he persuades Jim that "everyone needs a co-pilot" and the important moments in life are rarely unshared. The wedding goes off without any further hitches.

Ryan begins having second thoughts about his own life. As he starts to deliver his "What's In Your Backpack?" speech at a convention in Las Vegas, he realizes he no longer believes it and walks off the stage. On an impulse, he flies to Alex's home in Chicago, Illinois. When she opens the door, he is stunned to discover she is a married woman with children; Ryan leaves without saying a word. She later tells him on the phone that her family is her real life and he is simply an escape.

On his flight home, the crew announces that Ryan has just crossed the ten million mile mark. The airline's chief pilot (Sam Elliott) comes out of the cockpit to meet Ryan. He notes that Ryan is the youngest person to reach the milestone; Ryan, who had been awaiting that moment for a long time is speechless.

Back in his office, Ryan calls the airline to transfer five hundred thousand miles each to his sister, Julie, and brother-in-law, enough for them to fly around the world for their honeymoon. His boss then tells Ryan that a woman he and Natalie fired has killed herself, and that an upset Natalie has quit via text message and left without another word. The company puts the remote-layoff program on hold because of government concerns and puts Ryan "back on the road"as he calls it.

Natalie applies for a job in San Francisco, California. The interviewer is impressed by her qualifications and a glowing recommendation from Ryan, and hires her.

The film concludes with Ryan standing in front of a vast destination board, looking up, and letting go of his luggage, echoing a sentiment expressed by Natalie earlier.

Unstoppable (2010)

Unstoppable is a 2010 American action thriller film directed by Tony Scott, written by Mark Bomback, and starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. The film tells the story of a runaway freight train, and the two men (Washington and Pine) who attempt to stop it.

The film was released in the United States and Canada on November 12, 2010, and in the United Kingdom on November 24, 2010. It received mostly favorable reviews from film critics; it garnered a "Certified Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes based upon aggregated reviews[6] and a rating of "Generally favorable reviews" at Metacritic.[7] The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing at the 83rd Academy Awards, but lost to Inception.

Veteran Allegheny and West Virginia Railroad (AWVR) engineer Frank Barnes (Denzel Washington) oversees his co-worker, freshly hired conductor Will Colson (Chris Pine) as they use AWVR locomotive #1206 to pick up several train cars outside Stanton, Pennsylvania. Will picks up five cars too many, which they realize only after they have left the train yard. Although Will demands that they roll back and uncouple the extra cars, Frank continues north on the main line with the extras in tow.

Meanwhile, in a rail yard within the northern town of Fuller, two AWVR hostlers, Dewey (Ethan Suplee) and Gilleece (T.J. Miller), are ordered to move a freight train led by locomotive #777 (nicknamed "Triple Seven") off its current track to clear the track for an excursion train carrying schoolchildren. Dewey attempts to take shortcuts, instructing Gilleece to leave the hoses for the air brakes disconnected for the short trip. Dewey later leaves the moving cab to throw a misaligned rail switch along the train's path, but is unable to climb back on, as the train's throttle jumps from idle, to full power. He is forced to report the train as a "coaster" to Fuller yardmaster Connie Hooper (Rosario Dawson). Connie orders Dewey, Gilleece, and lead welder Ned Oldham (Lew Temple), to intercept the train at a siding and board it. With no sign of the train at the siding, they come to realize that the train's controls have defaulted to full throttle, and it is speeding out of control on the main line.

Connie is able to successfully divert the excursion train to a side track in time, and then reports the runaway to Oscar Galvin (Kevin Dunn), vice-president of train operations for AWVR. Connie works with local police and sheriff forces to ensure that each grade crossing along the main line is secured. As they evaluate their options, visiting FRA safety inspector Scott Werner (Kevin Corrigan) alerts them to the hazard that the molten phenol carried by eight of the train's cars poses should it derail. Galvin rejects Connie's suggestion to derail the train in an area of unpopulated farmland before it enters the towns ahead, believing they can stop the train safely before then. As the train's odyssey becomes a media event, a lashup of two engines driven ahead of the runaway manned by veteran engineer Judd Stewart (David Warshofsky) is used to try to slow down the train while AWVR employee Ryan Scott (Ryan Ahern) is lowered to 777's cab from a helicopter. The plan goes awry, injuring Ryan, and the lashup locomotives are subsequently derailed and explode, killing Judd. The train continues racing towards Stanton.

Frank and Will are warned of the oncoming train. Due to the extra cars picked up by Will, they are forced to bypass a closer siding in favor of a longer Repair-In-Place track further north on the line. They make it into the track just as the runaway speeds past them, smashing through the rearmost car of their train. Frank sees that the last car of the runaway has an open coupler (not fitted with a FRED). When Frank learns that Galvin is planning to use derailers to stop the train, he asserts that this plan will not work and instead convinces Will to join him as he unhooks 1206 and runs it long hood forward down the line to catch 777 from behind. Galvin threatens to fire Frank and Will if they continue, but Frank reveals that he already was forced into early retirement weeks ago by Galvin. Despite Galvin's demands, Connie and Scott encourage Frank and Will to continue their pursuit.

The police abort a plan of triggering a fuel cutoff switch on the side of 777 with close-range gun blasts at a grade crossing when they realize the switch's proximity to the fuel tank. As Frank foresaw, Galvin's plan to derail the train also fails, as 777 and its cars are too heavy and moving too fast. Fears arise that the runaway will derail on a sharp curve in downtown Stanton and fall into several fuel storage containers nearby, causing a major disaster; the city is evacuated as 777 approaches.

Frank and Will manage to catch up to the runaway, but Will injures his foot in manually coupling their engine to the rear car. Though 1206's dynamic brakes are helping to reduce the speed of 777, the train is still moving too fast for the curve. At Will's suggestion, Frank goes out onto the train and begins engaging each car's handbrakes individually, further helping to reduce the speed. Soon, however, 1206's dynamic brakes blow out, and the runaway begins to pick up speed again. With proper timing of 1206's independent air brakes, Will and Frank barely manage to keep the train on the rails as it speeds through the Stanton curve. Though a major disaster is averted, the train is still out of control, Frank unable to get to 777's cab due to a gap between cars too wide to bridge.

With a long stretch of parallel road next to the line, Ned appears in his pickup truck, pacing alongside 1206 to allow Will to jump into the back. Speeding to the front of the runaway, Will makes a successful jump to 777 and brings the runaway to a stop, ending the crisis. Frank, Will, and Ned are celebrated as heroes, and the two reunite with their worried families. As described in a pre-credit montage, Frank was promoted and is now retired with full benefits, Will continues to work for AWVR and is expecting a second child with his wife, Connie takes over Galvin's job, Ryan Scott recovered fully from his injuries, and Dewey is now working in the fast food industry.
