Warrior (2011)

Warrior is a 2011 American sports action-drama film directed by Gavin O'Connor and starring Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton, Nick Nolte, Jennifer Morrison, and Frank Grillo. Warrior tells the story of two estranged brothers entering a mixed martial arts tournament, and deals with the brothers' struggling relationship with each other and with their father. The film was released on September 9, 2011 to overall positive reviews.

The film opens with former U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Tommy Riordan (Tom Hardy) visiting his father, Paddy (Nick Nolte), a former alcoholic who has become a Christian. Tommy becomes angry about his father's formerly abusive behavior, and Paddy fails to convince him that he has truly changed. The next day, Tommy enters a gym where he beats a professional fighter named Pete "Mad Dog" Grimes (Erik Apple) unconscious in less than a minute, in a fight which is filmed via a flip video camera and later uploaded to the Internet where it goes viral. Tommy asks his father to help him train for a winner-takes-all mixed martial arts tournament called Sparta, but only under the condition that they do not try to reconcile their relationship. It is later explained that Tommy enters the tournament in order to give the money he hopes to win to the widow and son of his fallen friend in the Marine Corps.

Meanwhile, Paddy's older son, Brendan Conlon (Joel Edgerton), a high school physics teacher and former UFC fighter, is struggling to financially provide for his wife Tess (Jennifer Morrison) and two daughters, and faces the possibility of his home getting foreclosed if he does not pay the bank in three months. Despite he and Tess working a total of three jobs between the two of them, Brendan risks returning to his former profession as a mixed martial arts fighter battling amateur fighters for money in order to pay the bank in time. Rumors of Brendan fighting in the ring begin spreading amongst his students, and the school, objecting to his participation in such dangerous activities, suspends him without pay. Without knowing Tommy has done so as well, Brendan also decides to enter Sparta with his old friend Frank Campana (Frank Grillo) as his trainer.

Paddy visits Brendan during this time to inform him that Tommy has returned home and in order to reconcile with his son, which he is unable to do. Brendan says he forgives Paddy for all the wrong he has done to him in the past, but that he still does not trust him. And later, after entering the tournament, Brendan discovers that Tommy has also entered. When Brendan confronts Tommy for the first time in several years, it is explained that Brendan eloped with Tess when he was sixteen years old and left the family, leaving Tommy to take care of his mother, who later fell ill and died, by himself. Tommy says that he refuses to forgive Brendan for this and leaves.

Meanwhile, the video of Tommy beating Mad Dog attracts the attention of a Marine in Iraq whose life was saved by Tommy months prior. The information and video of Tommy saving the Marine is shared with the press and Tommy becomes a national hero, gaining a massive fan base with not only viewers, but with the U.S. Marine Corps as well. Paddy tells Tommy that he is proud of him for saving the Marine's life, but Tommy gets so furious at his father that Paddy has a relapse and becomes severely drunk the next day. Tommy comforts Paddy and the two finally make peace with one another. However, things turn around when Tommy's records surface from the Marine Corps and reveal that he took absence without leave from the military after he was nearly killed by friendly fire. It is explained that Tommy took his mother's maiden name, Riordan, as his own surname in order to evade arrest for his desertion, and that police will take him into custody after the tournament is over.

Over the next few nights, Brendan and Tommy have contrasting fortunes. Tommy violently and quickly pulverizes his three hapless opponents, the third being Mad Dog, whom he disposes of within seconds. Following each victory he angrily storms out of the cage and ignores the winner's announcement. Brendan has by comparison a much tougher time, particularly in the semi final where he has to face Koba, a monstrous undefeated Russian champion. He wins his first two bouts with clever Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but in the third he is punished severely for the entirety of the first two rounds. In the third he mounts a valiant and spirited attack against his superior opponent and eventually surprises Koba with a kneebar and holds on for dear life. Koba eventually submits and Brendan shocks the world of mixed martial arts. At the end, both brothers come face-to-face with each other in final round and unleash all anger they had towards each other. The fight between the two brothers shows Tommy having the upper hand initially, taking down Brendan and punishing him with some ground-and-pound, but in the third round, the tides turn as Brendan catches Tommy with an omoplata armlock. Brendan manages to dislocate Tommy's shoulder, leaving Tommy handicapped. Brendan pleads to his brother to stop fighting, but Tommy continues to fight with one arm. In the next round Brendan traps the injured Tommy in a rear naked choke. While they both lie struggling on the mat, Brendan tearfully apologizes to Tommy and tells him that he loves him, and after a brief hesitation, Tommy taps out. The film ends with the two brothers exiting the ring, Tommy in tears with Brendan's arms around him, as their father watches them and smiles.

Win Win is a 2011 American sports comedy-drama film directed by Thomas McCarthy. Based on the story written by Joe Tiboni and Thomas McCarthy, it stars Paul Giamatti and Amy Ryan.

Disheartened New Jersey attorney Mike Flaherty (Paul Giamatti) struggles to keep his wife Jackie (Amy Ryan), their two young girls, and himself happy while moonlighting as a wrestling coach for New Providence High School. The team has developed a losing streak, and together with co-coach Vigman (Jeffrey Tambor), Flaherty is trying to fulfill the school's motto as "The Home of Champions".

Through some questionable business dealings with older client Leo Poplar (Burt Young), Flaherty stumbles across a star athlete in the form of troubled teenager Kyle Timmons (Alex Shaffer), much to the delight of coach Vigman, as well as buddy and former high school wrestling partner Terry Delfino (Bobby Cannavale). The stage is set for Flaherty to get a double payday and a long-awaited winning wrestling team. Then Kyle's mom Cindy (Melanie Lynskey) shows up—fresh out of rehab and flat broke, threatening to derail everything.

Warning (2011)

If there’s any film that can define unattainable lows it has to be Aagaah The Warning. It’s certainly not easy to make a good film; a lot of efforts are put into it. But it’s amusing to see the efforts put behind to make a cult bad film such as this.

Merging terrorism and horror, Warning is about a Jihadi Azaan Khan (Atul Kulkarni) who’s instilled with the fact that if he dies fighting for his nation he will go to heaven. So he takes up the task of attacking Mumbai and approaches the city via the sea route. The boat that they hijack belongs to an innocent boatman Ramsharan (Karan Razdan) who curses Azaan while dying. So whether it’s the curse of Ramsharan or his own wrong doings, Azaan turns into a spirit and keeps haunting the family of Ramsharan which includes his wife (Rituparna Sen Gupta), his mother (Ila Arun), father (Satish Kaushik) and his daughter (Jannat) only to convey a very important message. Now we cannot reveal that message and take away your fun. So dare to watch it yourself.

I understand that theirs a dearth of plots in horror genre in our nation. I also understand that yearning for which we derive “inspiration” from Korean or Hollywood cinema. But no reason can justify the crime committed by penning a story of Warning. The film is very conveniently divided into two parts, terrorism cum patriotism and horror so while you think of entering into a horror film, the initial first half cheats you with story meandering into terrorist attacks, training camps, jihaad blah blah blah. It’s the second half that has the spooky element with one of the most bizarre connections ever. It is shoddy, amateurish and increasingly annoying to be watching the wrong setting, wrong premise, wrong characterisation and worst still, wrong execution of the wrong doings for a good 2 hours. If there’s anything that’s worth looking out for in this film it surely would be the unintentional humour that you can opt for if you plan to have a gala time with your bunch of friends. But with the multiplex prices touching the sky, I cannot assure you that even this can be a reason good enough to watch this film.

To add to the agony you have the constant hamming of the actors where the director Karan Razdan himself tops the list. He stutters and hams as seen never before in Indian cinema. The effects are very vintage with even the Ramsay brothers doing it better. Music by Sachin Gupta only adds to the agony.

Winnie the Pooh : Springtime With Roo(2004)

Springtime with Roo is a direct-to-video animated film, featuring characters from Disney's Winnie-the-Pooh franchise.

An adaptation of the Charles Dickens's classic, A Christmas Carol. An overexcited Roo, along with Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore, pay Rabbit a visit to celebrate Easter. But instead of finding an Easter party they find a Spring Cleaning Day celebration led by Rabbit who makes up the holiday to replace Easter. While the gang clean up Rabbit's house, Roo finds all their Easter eggs and decorations stored away in Rabbit's closet, and throws a surprise Easter party for Rabbit. Unfortunately, he is enraged at them for not doing his "Spring Cleaning Day", and sends them out to clean. Roo is sad that Rabbit is unhappy, and Tigger wants Roo to have a happy Easter, so Tigger tries to talk to Rabbit while Roo and the others try to make an Easter celebration of their own in their hopes of cheering up Rabbit.

In order to convince Rabbit that he still misses Easter and how he used to like it to which Rabbit does not believe from hating it so much, Tigger and the Narrator take Rabbit out of the storybook and back in time [a few chapters of the book] (Which is over hundreds of pages away) to last year's Easter celebration. Rabbit, as the Easter Bunny, tried to make everything as organized, orderly, and perfect as possible, treating Easter like a professional occasion rather than a great holiday. Tigger and the others wanted to have fun and unique with making and hunting the eggs, but Rabbit was actually shown to be very over-protective on his views of the holiday, claiming, "It isn't fun; it's Easter!" So Tigger and the others swiped all the Easter eggs behind Rabbit's back, and he found them hunting the eggs and celebrating Easter without him. Everyone is more happy with Tigger being the "Easter Bunny" instead of Rabbit. Feeling left out of the fun and disappointed that he isn't the one getting this kind of honor from his friends, it was then he decided to stop the Hundred Acre Wood from having another Easter celebration again. Rabbit finds out Tigger was right about him liking Easter in his past, but instead of agreeing to allow the holiday back, Rabbit then sadly tells Tigger he wants to be left alone, still upset about his past, and accusing Tigger of stealing his role as the Easter Bunny.

The present Tigger sadly returns to tell Roo and the others that Easter is still banned while Rabbit returns home in the book. Although Tigger feels that he had let Roo down, the only thing Roo wants is for Rabbit to be happy again, so he and the others try to come up with a plan to do so. Meanwhile, the narrator purposely takes Rabbit to Roo's house instead of his own to show him how much Roo and the others still care about him, and how he should do the same thing, but Rabbit remains stubborn and angry and unconvinced. So late that night, the narrator takes Rabbit into the "pages that not have yet been written", or into the future of the Hundred Acre Wood. It is Spring Cleaning Day, and all the supplies and chores are organized exactly as Rabbit wanted. Rabbit is happy about this at first, but he later learns that the Hundred Acre-Wood is deserted. All his friends had moved away because of his selfishness. Rabbit finally realizes that he was wrong to try and control something that everyone shares and loves, and decides to change the future by changing his attitude to everyone else. But however he learns that the Easter supplies were taken with his friends when they moved and he screams in terror until he wakes up on Easter day finding out he still has a chance to change the future.

At the same time, Roo and the others come up with another idea in hopes of cheering Rabbit up, and while they are busy working, Rabbit, feeling as "giddy as a jackrabbit", brings out all the Easter decorations and starts happily preparing a big surprise for his friends. The movie ends with the annual Easter celebration proceeding as planned.

Wicker Park (2004)

Wicker Park is a 2004 psychological drama/romantic mystery film directed by Paul McGuigan and starring Josh Hartnett. The film is a remake of the 1996 French movie L'Appartement. It was nominated for the Grand Prix at the Montreal Film Festival, the city in which the movie was partially filmed.

The title refers to the Wicker Park neighborhood on Chicago's near northwest side.

Moving back and forth in time and revealing the story from each character's perspective, Wicker Park is a psychological drama about a man named Matt (Josh Hartnett) who is caught in an obsessive search for Lisa (Diane Kruger), a woman with whom he had fallen deeply in love who had then vanished without a trace. Two years after her disappearance, Matt has somewhat moved on. He has a new girlfriend, Rebecca. At a restaurant he thinks he sees and hears Lisa. This sends him on a trail to find her, skipping his business trip to China. Matt's detective work leads him to a hotel room, but instead of Lisa, he finds her old compact. He is directed to her apartment and, with a key left with a man, he enters and a collection of Lisa's possessions: her perfume, shoes, etc. He realizes someone is in the room and presumes to be Lisa; the woman he meets tells him that she is Lisa. She asks him to stay the night because she is afraid of a man who has been stalking her for several days; Matt agrees, and the two end up sleeping together. In the morning she leaves for work, telling him she's a nurse. On her way, we witness a flashback which reveals that she's actually Alex (Rose Byrne), Lisa's neighbour and roommate. As they got closer to one another, Alex was charmed by Lisa and she began to copy her. When Alex sees Matt for the first time, she falls for him, and after learning of his obsession for Lisa, she starts plotting to come between them.

Alex has been dating Matt's friend Luke (Matthew Lillard) and working as a theater artist (not a nurse), and when she finds out about Matt's return to town, she again plans to fulfill her dream and tries to stop him finding Lisa. Meanwhile, Matt and Lisa cross paths many times, never noticing one another. Matt begins to suspect something and eventually uncovers Alex's plan after he buys her a pair of shoes (that Lisa bought and broke) and they're too big for her. He knows something is up because Lisa's same size broken shoes are at that apartment. He follows her, and reaches the restaurant where she's having lunch with her boyfriend Luke. Matt finally sees through her; Alex admits that Lisa left for Europe, leaving a letter for Matt telling him that she loved him. Alex destroyed the letter, and deleted all the messages Lisa left for Matt (using the key she gave her to his apartment so she could drop the note off); in the meantime, she told Lisa that she'd seen Matt with another woman. Luke tells Matt that Lisa called and said to ask Matt to meet her that afternoon. Alex tells him Lisa is leaving for London. Matt heads to Wicker Park but it's too late. He races to the airport, where he meets Rebecca (Jessica Paré) (his girlfriend), there to pick him up from the business trip he never went on. He admits to her that he loves someone else and she leaves. Elsewhere, Lisa is crouched on the floor talking to Alex on the phone, as Alex confesses what she has done. Matt spots Lisa as she hangs up and begins to cry. He goes over, crouches behind her and starts crying. She turns around and they embrace.

Wall Street (1987)

Wall Street is a 1987 American drama film released by 20th Century Fox. It was directed by Oliver Stone and stars Michael Douglas, Charlie Sheen, and Daryl Hannah. The screenplay was written by Stanley Weiser and Stone. The film tells the story of Bud Fox (Sheen), a young stockbroker desperate to succeed who becomes involved with his hero, Gordon Gekko (Douglas), a wealthy, unscrupulous corporate raider.

Stone made the film as a tribute to his father, Lou Stone, a stockbroker during the Great Depression. The character of Gekko is said to be a composite of several people, including Owen Morrisey, Dennis Levine, Ivan Boesky, Carl Icahn, Asher Edelman, Michael Ovitz, Michael Milken, and Stone himself. Originally, the studio wanted Warren Beatty to play Gekko, but he was not interested, and Stone wanted Richard Gere, though Gere passed on the role. Stone went with Douglas even though he had been advised by others in Hollywood not to cast him.

The film was well-received among major film critics including Roger Ebert. Douglas won the Academy Award for Best Actor, and the film has come to be seen as the archetypal portrayal of 1980s excess, with Douglas's character memorably declaring that "greed, for lack of a better word, is good". It has also proven influential in inspiring people to work on Wall Street with Sheen, Douglas, and Stone commenting over the years how people still approach them and say that they became stockbrokers because of their respective characters in the film.

Stone, Douglas, and Sheen (for a brief cameo) reunited for a sequel titled Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, which was released theatrically on September 24, 2010.

Bud The Player
In 1985, Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen), a junior stockbroker at Jackson Steinem & Co., is desperate to get to the top. He wants to become involved with his hero, the corporate raider Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas), a ruthless and legendary Wall Street player, whose values could not conflict more with those of Bud's father Carl (Martin Sheen), a blue-collar airline maintenance foreman and union president.

Gordon Gekko
Bud visits Gekko on his birthday and, granted a brief interview, pitches him stocks, but Gekko is unimpressed. Realizing that Gekko may not do business with him, a desperate Bud provides him some inside information about Bluestar Airlines, which Bud learned in a casual conversation from his father. Gekko tells him he will think about it. A dejected Bud returns to his office where Gekko places an order for Bluestar stock, becoming one of Bud's clients.

Learning the ropes
Gekko gives Bud some capital to manage, but the shares Bud selects—by honest research—lose money. Instead, Gekko takes Bud under his wing but compels him to unearth new information by any means necessary. One of his first assignments is to spy on British corporate raider Sir Lawrence Wildman (Terence Stamp) and discern the Brit's next move. Through Bud's spying, Gekko makes big money, and Wildman is forced to buy Gekko's shares off him to complete his control of a steel company.

Bud's Rise
Bud becomes wealthy, enjoying Gekko's promised perks, including a penthouse on Manhattan's Upper East Side and a trophy blonde, interior decorator Darien (Daryl Hannah). Bud is promoted as a result of the large commission fees he is bringing in from Gekko's trading, and is given a corner office with a view. He continues to maximize insider information and use friends as straw buyers to get rich.

Bluestar Airlines
Bud pitches a new idea to Gekko, to buy Bluestar Airlines and expand the company, with Bud as president, using savings achieved by union concessions. Bud persuades his father, who dislikes Gekko, to get union support for the plan and push for the deal. Things change when Bud learns that Gekko, in fact, plans to dissolve the company and sell off Bluestar's assets in order to access cash in the company's overfunded pension plan, leaving Carl and the entire Bluestar staff unemployed.

Tail wags the Dog
Although this would leave Bud very rich, he is angered by Gekko's deceit, and racked with the guilt of being an accessory to Bluestar's destruction. Bud chooses his father over his mentor and resolves to disrupt Gekko's plans. He angrily breaks up with Darien, who refuses to plot against Gekko, her former lover and the builder of her career. Bud creates a plan to manipulate Bluestar's stock value downwards. Gekko, realizing that his stock is plummeting, finally dumps his remaining interest in the company, only to learn on the evening news that the shares have been picked up at a lower price by Sir Lawrence Wildman, who will become the airline's new majority shareholder. Gekko realizes that Bud engineered the entire scheme. Bud triumphantly goes back to work at Jackson Steinem & Co. the following day, where he is confronted by the police and the Securities and Exchange Commission. He is then placed under arrest for securities fraud and insider trading.

Gekko's Fall / Bud's Redemption
Sometime later, Bud confronts Gekko in Central Park. Gekko berates him for his role with Bluestar. He then strikes Bud, accusing him of ingratitude for several of their illegal business transactions. Following the confrontation, it is revealed that Bud was wearing a wire to record his encounter with Gekko. He turns the wire tapes over to the federal authorities, who suggest that his sentence will be lightened in exchange for his help. Later on, Bud's parents drive him to the courthouse, and Carl tells him he did right in saving the airline, although he will most likely still go to prison. The film ends with Bud going up the steps of the courthouse to face justice for his crimes, albeit now with a clear conscience.

Wild Hogs (2007)

Wild Hogs is a 2007 action-adventure comedy film directed by Walt Becker and starring Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy. It was released nationwide in the United States and Canada on March 2, 2007, though preview film screenings were held in select areas on February 24, 2007.

Doug Madsen (Allen), Woody Stevens (Travolta), Bobby Davis (Lawrence) and Dudley Frank (Macy) are four middle-aged suburban men in Cincinnati who find themselves frustrated with the pace of daily life and lack of adventure. Doug is a dentist who cannot seem to relate to his son Billy (Dominic Janes). Dudley is a computer programmer who is afraid to talk to women. Bobby is a plumber who dreams to one day write a how-to book on the subject of plumbing, but is made to work at The Firm by his wife Karen (Tichina Arnold). Woody is a rich lawyer who is married to a supermodel. When Woody finds out his wife is divorcing him and leaving him bankrupt, he suggests going on a motorcycle road trip to California.

Doug says to his family that he can't go because he cannot leave work. This leads his wife to say that he may be right and that the trip may not be right for a man his age. Doug is insulted by the idea of this insinuating that she thinks he is "lame". He tries to prove he is not by eating what he wants to eat, despite the fact he has high LDL. He goes into what the doctor calls a "catecholamine-induced supra-ventricular tachyarrhythmia" (stress-induced panic attack). While in the hospital, Doug talks with his wife, who convinces him to go on the trip.

After the first day's ride, the men lose their tent when Dudley accidentally throws gas onto the burning tent (thinking it was water). They are forced to all sleep on an air mattress that was spared because Bobby was too slow to blow it up and get it in the tent when they made camp.

The next morning the men encounter a gay highway patrolman (John C. McGinley) who is jealous of them on their trip and "threatens" to charge them with lewd behavior. The men go on and stop at a lake where they go skinny dipping, but they are interrupted by a family who stop to swim, but leave in horror when the men are revealed to be naked. They are then joined by the same patrolman, but escape. Stopping for fuel and food at a roadside bar, the men meet the Del Fuego gang, headed by the tough biker Jack (Ray Liotta) who recognizes the four men as "posers" and takes Dudley's bike. After riding a short distance away, Woody, disgraced by what just transpired, says they should go back and get Dudley's bike. The others refuse, so Woody walks back alone, steals the bike and cuts the fuel lines on the gang's bikes. He quickly drives back to the Wild Hogs, claiming that all he did was threaten to sue the Del Fuegos. The group continues on towards the Pacific.

The Del Fuegos realize what has happened and try to go after the Wild Hogs, but after their bikes stall, Jack accidentally drops his cigarette onto the line of fluid from where Woody cut the gas lines of the bikes. This causes a chain reaction that blows up the bar.

Because Woody is hesitant to stop for gas after he saw the bar explode when he looked in his rear-view mirror, the Wild Hogs end up running out of gas. The four end up in Madrid, New Mexico where they are mistaken for members of the Del Fuego group when they quickly grab pitchers of beer they haven't ordered and start guzzling them. Recovering from their thirst, they learn the Del Fuegos regularly terrorize the town, but the police force, which has very little training and no guns, can't do anything.

The four men re-evaluate their lives, especially when Doug, Woody, and Bobby do a "bull-slap" which ends up being painful for two of them and Dudley falls for Maggie (Marisa Tomei), the owner of the local diner.

Eventually, the four men are spotted and the Del Fuegos come to get their revenge. The two Del Fuegos call Jack and tell him the Wild Hogs are in Madrid ("I like Madrid. The ground's soft enough to bury them in!" says Jack) Bobby, believing that they are safe because of what Woody told them, squirts the two men with ketchup and mustard. The two Del Fuego scouts do not fight, because Jack told them not to hurt the Wild Hogs until he arrived. The Wild Hogs are proclaimed heroes.

The next day, the entire team of Del Fuegos shows up in Madrid. Woody reveals what happened at the Del Fuego bar and the truth behind his need to take the trip, upsetting the others. After the Del Fuegos threaten to burn Maggie's diner, Dudley stands up to the gang, but is captured. The others join Dudley, with Doug declaring that they aren't going to run, but are going to fight. They are easily outmatched by the Del Fuegos and are beat up badly, holding up against them to keep them busy. The townspeople arrive and threaten the Del Fuegos, when Damien Blade (Peter Fonda), Jack's father and the founder of the Del Fuegos, arrives. Blade berates Jack for letting four "posers" hold off an entire biker gang, questioning aloud just which side was the "posers", and telling Jack that the bar was nothing but an insurance scam. Blade tells the gang to leave town, and ride the open road until they remember what riding is really about, mentioning on his way out of town that Jack "takes after his mother".

Doug and Bobby's wives arrive, and the two finally learn to relate to their families. Bobby finally stands up to his wife and tells her that he is tired of her being controlling over him, and she apologizes for it. The Wild Hogs reach the West coast soon after and it ends when they get sidetracked by Dudley nearly wiping out, and crash into a tandem surfboard.

Wild Target (2010)

Wild Target is a 2010 comedy film, directed by Jonathan Lynn. It is based on the 1993 French film Cible Emouvante. Lucinda Coxon wrote the screenplay, and it was produced by Martin Pope and Michael Rose.

Production began shooting in Central London on 16 September 2008, with Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Rupert Grint and Eileen Atkins heading the cast. Filming also took place on the Isle of Man.

Victor Maynard (Bill Nighy) is an expert and effective assassin living a lonely life in accordance with his family's business. Victor follows a family line of professional assassins, and he completes his assignments quickly and without remorse. One afternoon, after killing one of his targets, he hesitates in killing the pet parrot, Roger, and instead takes him as a gift to his mother, Louisa (Eileen Atkins) a formidable woman who was, until recently, also Victor's housemate. In celebration of his 55th birthday, she gives him a leather bound book with newspaper clippings of each of his kills from his first to his most recent, leaving pages for future hits to be included. She also expresses concern that he might be gay, wondering why he hasn't produced a successor.

Rose is a not-so-average girl with a talent for thievery. Her most recent theft involves the sale of a fake Rembrandt painting (painted by her friend in the Restoration Department of the National Gallery) to Ferguson (Rupert Everett), managing to swindle him out of £900,000. Ferguson soon discovers the swap and hires the best hitman, Victor Maynard, to dispose of her. Victor takes the case and immediately tracks Rose down, missing several opportunities to kill her, and accidentally killing a random stall customer in a changing room. He follows her to a balcony opposite her hotel room and tries to shoot her through the window, but is interrupted by the arrival of the front doorman. Victor sets up a microphone and headset to keep her under surveillance, but falls asleep, unable to listen to their noisy lovemaking. He wakes the following morning, just as she is leaving. He has the opportunity to shoot but hesitates.

His mother, Louisa, is upset by this missed target and suggests that Victor apologize to his employer and offer to do the hit for free. He tracks Rose down in a parking garage where he sees another hitman ready to kill her. He takes the preemptive shot, killing the other assassin. He and Rose get into her car, only to be forced out again by another assassin hiding in the back seat of her Mini. The assassin knocks Victor's gun away and lines them up on the wall to be shot and killed, but instead is shot by Tony (Rupert Grint) who had picked up Victor's gun. Saying it was his first time shooting, he impresses Victor enough to consider a protégé. But he sends Tony home and Victor and Rose flee. The wounded assassin starts firing at them and they nearly run over Tony on his way out of the garage, forcing him to join the ride. Rose offers Victor his price of 30,000 pounds a week for her protection, as she is under the assumption he is merely a private detective. They travel to a luxury hotel where they can lie low, but inadvertently end up on the same floor as Ferguson. Ferguson hires Dixon (Martin Freeman) to kill Rose and Maynard, as Dixon is the second most proficient assassin on the hitmans' list (second only to Maynard himself). After several close calls, Mike (Gregor Fisher), who is also Ferguson's bodyguard, discovers their whereabouts when he spots a pair of boots that Rose had stolen from his dead partner. Tony is attacked in the bathroom and nearly drowned in the bathtub by Mike, but he turns the tables and accidentally shoots Mike's ear off before the three of them escape the hotel. Ferguson and Mike pursue them in a high speed chase through the streets of London until Mike loses control and crashes, sending the pair to the hospital.

They travel to Maynard's home, a quaint farm far in the country, where his furniture is shrink-wrapped and his cat, Snowy, resides with him. Maynard takes Tony on as his apprentice in "private detective" work. One night, Rose is attacked by Louisa, who had come back to the house to finish what her son had started. He eventually talks her down and after she leaves, the three of them work on becoming friends. Rose and Tony help Victor celebrate his birthday, and, after a brief period of sexual confusion between Tony and Maynard, Victor falls in love with and sleeps with Rose. Afterward, his attitude becomes more cheerful, and Victor peels off the plastic coverings on all of his furniture and opens up the house. Meanwhile, Rose snoops around Victor's room, finding the leather book that his mother had given him and learning that she was actually his target for assassination. She also finds Victor's father's first gun, a Broomhandle Mauser, and takes it for self-protection. She storms out of the house after making it clear that she trusts neither Victor nor Tony, and returns to the National Gallery, only to find her friend dead and Dixon and his assistant, Fabian, (Geoff Bell) waiting for her. They quickly return to Victor's home, and Tony and Victor gain the upper hand when Louisa appears, killing Fabian with a machine gun. Dixon withdraws the old gun Rose had taken from Victor's room and fires at Victor. It backfires, sending the barrel into his skull. Victor, Tony and Rose bury the pair in the back yard and return to their lives.

Three years later, Victor and Rose are married with a son named Angel and Tony has moved in with them. While Angel is playing one morning, Tony comes outside asking Victor and Rose where the cat had gone off to. They look at Angel in awe as he is innocently patting soft dirt into the yard, suggesting he killed and buried the cat, Victor smiles with pride.

Waiting… (2005)

Waiting... is a 2005 American independent film starring Ryan Reynolds, Justin Long, and Anna Faris. It was written and directed by Rob McKittrick. McKittrick wrote the screenplay while working as a waiter. The film is the first effort by McKittrick as a writer–director.

The script was initially sold in a film deal to Artisan Entertainment, but was released by Lions Gate Entertainment (which purchased Artisan in 2003). Producers Chris Moore and Jeff Balis of Live Planet's Project Greenlight fame also took notice of the project and assisted. The film made over US $6,000,000, more than twice the budget of the film, in its opening weekend.

The film focuses on several characters. One of the main protagonists, Dean (Justin Long), has been a waiter for four years since graduating from high school, and hasn't earned a degree during his four years at a community college. When Dean learns from his mother (Monica) that a former high school classmate, Chett (Travis Resor), now has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, he begins to rethink his direction-less life. Dean's lecherous friend and co-worker, Monty (Ryan Reynolds), is in exactly the same situation, but has accepted that his future lies with the restaurant, Shenaniganz. Monty is put in charge of training Mitch (John Francis Daley), a newly hired waiter who is constantly interrupted throughout most of the film. Also working with Dean is Calvin (Robert Patrick Benedict), a hopeless romantic who cannot hang onto a relationship, and Dan (David Koechner), the uptight manager who is grooming Dean as his protégé. Rounding out the staff are 17-year old hostess Natasha (Vanessa Lengies), abrasive waitress Naomi (Alanna Ubach), waitress (and Monty's ex-girlfriend) Serena (Anna Faris), Dean's girlfriend and fellow waitress Amy (Kaitlin Doubleday), stoner bus-boys T-Dog and Nick (Max Kasch and Andy Milonakis), head chef Raddamus (Luis Guzman), the insane, unsanitary chef Floyd (Dane Cook), and the pensive and philosophical dishwasher Bishop (Chi McBride).

The waiters preoccupy themselves with endless gossip, complaining about the customers, seeking covert revenge on particularly rude patrons, and playing a special kind of game which involves flashing genitalia at a fellow worker (the "Penis Showing Game"). Each employee has his or her own problems and stories, which are interwoven with the ebb and flow of business.

Minutes before the restaurant closes, however, Chett and his girlfriend come in for dinner and leave Dean a hefty tip out of pity. This prompts Dean to quit his job — turning down an assistant manager position Dan offered him at the beginning of the film — and seek a more promising future.

When the shift ends, the staff head to a party at Monty and Dean's house. At the party, Monty is able to resist having sex with Natasha (although he says they will have sex the following Wednesday, when she will be 18), Calvin attempts to fix his relationship problems, and Mitch bashes most members of the staff after being constantly interrupted throughout the day. He concludes by giving them all The Goat from the "Penis Showing Game," for which Monty declares him a god and swears his undying allegiance to him. The film ends with the staff talking about the incident with Mitch, Dan showing up at a disgruntled customers' house after Natasha gave him the wrong address to the party, and the hip-hop music video debut of Nick and T-Dog.

Winter Passing (2006)

Winter Passing is a 2005 American drama film. It is the directorial debut of playwright Adam Rapp, also known for his work on the show The L Word. The film stars Zooey Deschanel and Ed Harris, with supporting performances by Will Ferrell and Amelia Warner. The film premiered in 2005 to mixed reviews.

Reese Holdin (Deschanel) is a depressed bartender/actress living in New York City. She regularly engages in casual sex, cocaine use and self-mutilation. When a publishing agent (Amy Madigan) approaches her, we learn that Reese is the daughter of a famous author named Don Holdin (Harris); and that her mother, Mary, recently died. Reese did not attend the funeral. The publisher offers the impecunious Reese $100,000 for a series of letters written between her mother and father at the height of their careers. When Reese learns that the kitten she rescued from the streets is dying of feline leukemia, she drowns it and buys a bus ticket.

Despite family tensions, Reese travels to Michigan's Upper Peninsula to retrieve the letters. Returning to her childhood home, she finds it occupied by Corbit (Ferrell), a down-and-out Christian musician, and Shelley (Warner), a 23-year-old former student of Don's. Reese's father now lives, writes and drinks in his garage. Reese initially clashes with the doting Shelley (whom she accuses of sleeping with her father) but eventually accepts her after learning of the death of her parents and of Don's support of her during a near-fatal bout with endometriosis. She also bonds with the idiosyncratic Corbit, who spurns her sexual advances and has trouble playing guitar and singing at the same time. She feels out of place at home and fights with her father over childhood neglect, stating that her parents gave their typewriters more attention. She eventually finds the box of letters and, reading the emotional communiques, learns to empathize with her estranged parents. Shelly has also read the letters and asks Reese if she intends to publish them. Reese expresses ambiguity over the matter.

Don Holdin is still grieving over his wife's death. He keeps the tie she hanged herself with in a dresser in the backyard along with the rest of their bedroom suite, including their bed. He sometimes sleeps in the bed despite the bitter cold of winter. Reese starts to connect with Corbit and Shelly and is honest with her father about her reasons for staying away from the funeral. Soon after, Don overdoses on pills, and Reese finds him unconscious. He recovers in the hospital, where Reese sits by his bed and reads his latest manuscript, Golf, which he had Corbit bury in the yard. The experience helps the father and daughter find closure, and Reese buries the box of letters in place of the novel before returning to New York.

War of the Worlds (2005)

War of the Worlds is a 2005 American science fiction film adaptation of H. G. Wells' novel of the same name, directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Josh Friedman and David Koepp. It is one of three film adaptations of War of the Worlds released that year, alongside The Asylum's version and Pendragon Pictures' version. It stars Tom Cruise as Ray Ferrier, a divorced dock worker estranged from his children and living separately from them. As his ex-wife drops their children off for him to look after for a few days, Earth is invaded by aliens (loosely based on H. G. Wells' Martians) driving Tripods and the earth's armies are defeated, and Ray tries to protect his children and flee to Boston to rejoin his ex-wife.

War of the Worlds marks Spielberg and Cruise's second collaboration, after the 2002 film Minority Report. The film was shot in 73 days, using five different sound stages as well as locations at Connecticut, Staten Island, California, Virginia, and New Jersey. The film was surrounded by a secrecy campaign so few details would be leaked before its release. Tie-in promotions were made with several companies, including Hitachi. The film was released in United States on 29 June and in United Kingdom on 1 July. The film generally received positive reviews, and attained a 73 percent "fresh" rating on the film review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, based on 240 reviews. War of the Worlds was also a box office success, and was 2005's fourth most successful film both domestically, with $234 million in North America, and worldwide, with $591 million overall.

The film begins with the novel's narration (provided by Morgan Freeman), which reflects on how mankind was so busy with their own concerns that they had not noticed they were being watched by aliens with superior intellects and sinister intentions.

Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) is a dock worker residing in Newark, New Jersey. One day, his ex-wife, Mary Ann (Miranda Otto), drops off their children, Rachel (Dakota Fanning) and Robbie (Justin Chatwin), at his house as she is going to Boston to meet with her parents. Meanwhile a series of unexplainable lightning storms hit Ukraine, later hitting other parts of the world. While Ray sleeps, Robbie takes Ray's car out of the house without his permission. When Ray wakes up, he goes out to search for his son, and notices a strange wall cloud, which starts to send out electromagnetic pulses in the form of lightning in the nearby area, which disables all working electronic devices in the area, including cars. Ray then leaves to investigate, along the way telling Manny, the local mechanic, to replace the solenoid on a dead car. Ray and other numerous people are then attracted to a small hole in the ground caused by the lightning strikes. The ground then starts to rip open and a massive machine standing on three long legs appears. After emerging, the Tripod makes a loud blaring sound, then opens fire with destructive heat-rays, vaporizing bystanders and destroying everything in its path. Ray manages to escape and return to his house. Knowing it is no longer safe, Ray packs up his kids and leaves. He then manages to steal the vehicle Manny repaired, and along with Robbie and Rachel leave as the tripod destroys the town around them.

Ray drives to Mary Ann and her new husband's house to take refuge that night. The next morning he discovers that the tripods have caused a Boeing 747 to crash into the houses. Upon walking upstairs, he sees a jet engine, still spinning, right in the house. Ray meets a small news team searching the wreckage, who show him footage of Tripods destroying other cities, and also that aliens apparently "rode" down the lightning into the ground where the Tripods were located, showing that they have been preparing this invasion for a long time. After hearing the siren of an approaching Tripod, the news crew leaves, and Ray, along with his children, flee to join with Mary in Boston. While driving along NY 385, they are witnesses to a slew of bodies being carried in a river, a sign of the high casualties. They are then forced to leave their car after a mob attacks them in order to take the vehicle, and survive a Tripod attack while navigating the Hudson River on a ferry, which is later capsized by another alien Machine under water.

The family then encounters the U.S. military preparing to mount an attack on the Tripods and slow down their advance on a hill top. Robbie, obsessed with joining the fight against the hostile aliens, leaves with the military after Ray goes to stop a couple who were carrying Rachel away. As Ray retrieves Rachel, the tripods overwhelm the military and begin to open fire on the refugees. The tripods are protected by some kind of energy shield that makes them completely invulnerable to all forms of attack. While escaping from the tripods, Ray and Rachel are offered shelter and protection by a stranger, Harlan Ogilvy (Tim Robbins), who vows revenge on the aliens after his family was killed upon their arrival. He plans to begin a resistance against the aliens, believing that more and more waves of Tripods are on their way. While hiding in Harlan's basement, they witness the Tripods spreading a strange red weed substance over the ground, and avoid detection by both a metallic snake-like probe and four aliens who arrive to explore the basement, although Ogilvy shows his desire to kill one of the aliens. They use a mirror to fool the probe by hiding behind it. The following morning, Ogilvy suffers a mental breakdown after witnessing a Tripod harvesting blood and tissue from a human to fertilize the weed. Concerned that Ogilvy's yelling and ranting will attract the Tripods, Ray kills Ogilvy to silence him. Ray and Rachel's hideout is exposed however when another probe catches them while they sleep. Ray cripples the probe using an axe, but Rachel is so scared she flees the house, eventually being caught by a Tripod.

While pursuing the Tripod, Ray finds several hand grenades in a destroyed Humvee and detonates one of them to attract the Tripod's attention, intending to be captured to try and rescue Rachel. After Ray is captured and put into a basket with Rachel and several other prisoners, the aliens try to pull Ray inside the Tripod to be used as fertilizer for the red vine, but the other prisoners manage to pull him back out of the Fertilizer. The grenades left by Ray inside the Tripod's cabin then detonate, causing the Tripod to collapse and freeing all the captives.

Soon afterward, Ray and Rachel arrive in Boston, where they notice the red weeds are starting to dry up and die, and the Tripods appear to be dying also. They witness a Tripod acting strangely, struggling to keep balance and taking little notice of the soldiers and refugees. Ray notices a cluster of birds are circling and landing on the hood of the machine, indicating the Tripod's force fields are no longer functioning. Ray alerts nearby soldiers by yelling "Look at the goddamn birds!" who attack and destroy the Tripod with two FGM-148 Javelins and a Carl Gustav recoilless rifle, leaving it crashing through a warehouse and onto the ground. Approaching the downed Tripod, a hatch opens, revealing an alien pilot that lets out a final growl and dies. Ray and Rachel reach Mary Ann's parents' house and find her and, to their surprise, Robbie, who has somehow survived the attack on the hilltop. As the camera zooms back to overview the wrecked city and downed Tripods, the narrator reveals that the aliens were dying because they were suffering from terrestrial microbial diseases, which they contracted from consuming Earth's air and resources, and for which they had no immunity.

What a Girl Wants is a 2003 film starring Amanda Bynes, Colin Firth, Kelly Preston and Oliver James. Directed by Dennie Gordon, the film is a remake of the 1958 film, The Reluctant Debutante which had a screenplay by William Douglas-Home, based on his play of the same name.

The title, "What a Girl Wants," came from the Christina Aguilera eponymous song, though ironically, it is not featured in the film or on its soundtrack.

Daphne Reynolds (Amanda Bynes) has what every girl wants. This young American girl has a unique style all her own, an unconventional but loving relationship with her Bohemian mother Libby (Kelly Preston) and a future full of possibilities. But despite her remarkable promise, Daphne feels incomplete and alone.[1]

She dreams of one day meeting the father she’s never known, the man Libby loved deeply seventeen years ago, but ultimately left behind because his aristocratic family found her unsuitable. Determined to live out her fantasy of forging a storybook relationship with her long-absent dad, Daphne, on an impulse, gets on a flight to London, where she quickly discovers that her father is the high-profile politician, Lord Henry Dashwood (Colin Firth), who has controversially renounced his place in the royal succession (Daphne is 39th in line) to run for the House of Commons. Henry opens his life and his social calendar to the daughter he never knew existed, but Daphne’s appearance in his high society creates an uproar that threatens to undermine his political career. Not wanting to jeopardize his campaign for an upcoming election, Daphne stifles her naturally vibrant personality, refashions herself as a proper debutante and plunges into a whirlwind of British social events. But even with Henry’s support, she’s not getting any help from his conniving fiancée or her jealous daughter, who are bent on ruining Daphne at every turn.

With the aid of Ian (Oliver James), a charming and society-savvy local musician, Daphne attempts to prove that love, along with proper etiquette, can conquer all. But Daphne soon realizes she doesn’t like the person she’s becoming in the process. As much as she wants to be her father’s daughter, she realizes it's not worth it if she can’t be herself. Though mostly this is influenced by Henry's fiancée's interference during her debutante ball, when she coldly and cruelly locks Daphne in a closet to prevent Henry from bonding with her. She goes back home but Henry realizes how much he loves Daphne and goes to find her. The film ends with Daphne's mother officially getting married to Daphne's father. Daphne also becomes Ian's girlfriend and she goes to Oxford University so she can be near him.

Based on Serge Brussolo's bestselling French novel "Les Emmures," about a demolition company rep Sam (Mischa Barton) who supervises the razing of a mysterious building and discovers horrifying secrets and past inhabitants entombed within its walls by a vicious murderer.[1]

Sam Walczak (Mischa Barton), is a recent engineering graduate. At her graduation party, her father, an owner of a demolition company, gives her a gift: a job supervising the demolition of a building in the middle of nowhere. If she's successful, she will become his partner. Sam arrives at the Malestrazza Building (named after its architect), and is greeted by Mary (Deborah Unger), the caretaker. Sam tells Mary she will be staying in one of the apartments in the building. Jimmy (Cameron Bright), the caretaker's teenage son, takes her bags to her apartment and explains the rules of the building. She is to stay off of the eighth floor because it is Malestrazza's and the roof because it is too dangerous.

Sam asks about the building, and Mary is surprised that Sam is not aware of the building's history and that it's better that she does not know. Sam is curious, and while at the local store she looks on the Internet and finds that the Malestrazza Building was a crime scene where 16 bodies were found entombed in the walls. Since Sam knows the story about the building, Jimmy takes her to the eighth floor and tells her the story. Malestrazza's mistake was taking the girl seen at the beginning of the movie. The girl had a puppy, and when the police went to question the architect, the puppy darted into his apartment and led the police to a wall. They found the little girl in the wall. Jimmy is now that puppy's owner. The police then locate 15 additional bodies in the walls of the eighth floor. Mary (the caretaker) and her husband were also residents of the apartment building. Mary had to identify her husband, whose face was ripped off by the concrete while she was pregnant with Jimmy. They arrested a disgruntled factory worker for the murders. The lights go out in the abandoned eighth floor, and Sam hurts her leg. In the bathroom, Jimmy cleans her wound and then begins feeling her thigh. Sam asks what he is doing and he realizes his error and stops.

Sam has nightmares about being entombed in the walls.

Sam's boyfriend arrives and admires the building. The arrival of Sam's boyfriend upsets Jimmy. Sam and Jimmy have an argument and Jimmy says that after she finishes her report she'll leave and forget all about him. To which she replies that she would not. As Sam and her boyfriend explore the 8th floor, they secretly watch Mary at that place where her husband's body was found. They eventually talk to Mary, and, when she leaves the apartment, they are both locked in. Looking for a way out, they find a passage way that is not on the blueprints. They travel down the corridor and notice the walls have windows that allow a person to look into all the apartments. Sam realizes that Jimmy was watching her while she was in the bathroom and is upset. They eventually land in a different part of the building and move a false wall where they enter the garbage room and see an exit sign. Mary opens the door and asks if they are done looking through peoples' garbage.

Later that evening, Sam and her boyfriend are in her room having sex. Jimmy is on the other side of the wall listening and feeling distraught. Sam stops in the middle and is worried, aware that Jimmy might be there. Sam's boyfriend calms her fears and continues, while Jimmy is behind the wall in agony that Sam is with someone else. The next day they wake up and find Jimmy's butchered dog in their apartment. Sam's boyfriend thinks Jimmy killed the dog and wants to leave.

As they were about to leave, Jimmy gives Sam a gift, Malestrazza's journal, which talks about the design of the building and his theories. The building was like the Egyptian pyramids (hence the corridors not on the blueprints), she also realizes that that is why the building has so much space in the middle and that there is something in the center where light can show all the way down to the basement. Jimmy tells her that he is going to go to the roof to find the light source she is talking about. When Jimmy doesn't return, Sam and her boyfriend go to the roof. They find the part of the building she was looking for, a hole in the roof or shaft that leads straight down to the basement. Sam realizes that Jimmy must have known about this and is about to leave when she hears Jimmy call out that he fell down the hole and is hurt and needs Sam to come down and help him. Sam is eventually lowered down the hole by her boyfriend, but at the halfway point her boyfriend is shot with some sort of weapon that looks like a pointed long steel rod. He leans over the hole, holding the rope, as he bleeds down the hole and all over Sam who gets frightened and lets go of the rope and is now hanging upside down as her dead boyfriend bleeds all over her clothes and body.

Jimmy then drives Sam's car to mail her demolition report and then sinks her car into a lake.

Sam awakens in the basement area naked but covered with blankets. She sees a man sitting with a lamp on. Sam finds her clothes and puts them on. She asks the man who he is, but he says that she already knows. She figures out that he is Malestrazza. He plays the tape for her of Jimmy asking for help. Jimmy is keeping her down there with Malestrazza until she learns to love him. Sam also learns that Malestrazza was the mastermind behind the murders and is dumbfounded that people believe that a factory worker could concoct such a scheme of entombing people. She keeps asking about her boyfriend and Malestrazza tries to tell her that he is dead by cutting his arm and saying one mark for every soul. He also tells her that if he does what Jimmy wants, Jimmy is nice, but can be very cruel and imaginative when he disobeys Jimmy's orders.

Jimmy is back at the hole and sends down a cassette tape. Malestrazza plays the tape, and Jimmy says that he wants to see Sam and Malestrazza dance. Sam reluctantly dances, but, when Jimmy tells them to kiss, Malestrazza smiles showing Sam his blackened teeth, and she protests. Malestrazza pulls her close and forces her to kiss him. After a few seconds, Jimmy tells them to stop and threatens Malestrazza not to touch Sam again. Jimmy then sends down a basket with food, water, and a two-way radio. He tells Sam to keep the radio with her so that they can talk and be close.


Later, Jimmy asks his mother 'how do you know when someone really loves you?'. Mary says that you know when the person is willing to sacrifice everything (or their life) for the other person. He then says is that why you sacrificed your son for a dead man.

Sam looks for a way to escape and realizes one wall leads to the garbage area. When Jimmy returns, she lies and says that she is hurt and needs medicine. She talks about the time when Jimmy bandaged up her knee and claims that she enjoyed that time and their time together, but that in order to show him all that she can do for him she needs to get out. Sam walks to the center of the room and tell him that this is for him and she removes her shirt. Jimmy looks down and leans back. Sam gets her medicine. She opens the capsules and starts creating a mix to try and blow out the wall to get into the garbage room. Sam's attempt fails, and Jimmy is upset that she tried to escape.

Before Jimmy could exact his punishment, his mother, Mary, catches him. Mary realizes that Sam is in the hole with Malestrazza. Mary tells Jimmy that place was for the architect not anyone else. She realizes that Sam must stay in the hole with Malestrazza, or else they'll take her away and Jimmy will be an orphan.

Sam is stuck in the hole with Malestrazza, who she realizes does not want to escape. This is his tomb, and he picked her to kill him. She eventually does kill him after some taunting, and he thanks her after he falls into his tomb and it begins to fill with cement. Sam is by the wall hoping that Jimmy will come through and save her.

The demolition team arrives and her father asks where Sam is. Mary tells him that she left. Her father says that he thought she would want to see her first building being demolished. Mary is keeping Jimmy calm as they set up and begin to install the explosives. As the countdown begins, Jimmy starts saying "Sam," and then screams her name and runs toward the building. Sam's father tells them to stop the countdown. At the roof, Jimmy looks down, and her father asks what they have done. Jimmy then throws himself over and lands next to Sam. Sam is lifted out of the hole and put in an ambulance.

Sam narrates that Malestrazza built 27 buildings, all of which are still standing. He considered the Malestrazza building his masterpiece.

Who Am I (1998)

Who Am I? (traditional Chinese: 我是誰; simplified Chinese: 我是谁; pinyin: Wǒ Shì Shéi; Cantonese Yale: Ngo2 Si6 Seoi4) is a 1998 Hong Kong martial arts action film, released by Golden Harvest. It was directed by and stars Jackie Chan, who also performed the song that plays over the end credits.

The film is also known under the following alternative titles in some international releases: Jackie Chan's Who Am I? (USA), Amnesia (Norway) and Jackie Chan Is Nobody (Germany).

Somewhere in the jungles of South Africa, a Black Ops unit ambushes a convoy and kidnaps several scientists working on a highly-volatile compound extracted from a recently discovered meteorite. Among the operatives is a Hong Kong national identified by the CIA as "Jackie Chan". The CIA sends Special Agent Morgan (Ron Smerczak) to South Africa to investigate the incident, not knowing that Morgan and newly-retired General Sherman (Ed Nelson) orchestrated the abduction for their personal profit. At the same time, the CIA assigns another operative in South Africa for a more covert operation.

Chan wakes up in a tribal village somewhere in the African veldt, still recovering from injuries sustained in an accident he cannot remember due to a massive amnesia; due to this, he is referred to the natives as "Who Am I?" after asking himself that question. The tribe shows him the remains of a crashed helicopter and graves of those who perished aboard. He spends weeks recuperating from his wounds and learning about the tribe's culture. After spotting rally cars from several miles away, "Who Am I?" bids the village farewell and ventures on a journey back to civilization. He befriends Japanese rally navigator Yuki (Mirai Yamamoto) after saving her brother from a snake bite and offering to help them finish the race.

When they reach Johannesburg, "Who Am I?" meets Christine Stark (Michelle Ferre), a journalist sent to interview him about his rally adventure. However, Morgan hears of "Who Am I?" and sends hitmen to kill him, fearing his operation will be jeopardized. Morgan also pretends to be his ally, telling him to contact him if he is in danger. The hitmen, disguised as police officers, nab "Who Am I? and interrogate him at an abandoned building. There, he receives flashbacks of himself as a member of the black ops unit. Following the end of their mission, they were double-crossed by an operative, who set their helicopter to crash. "Who Am I?" stopped the traitor from bailing out, but both men were thrown out when the helicopter hit some trees. The traitor died from injuries while parachuting while "Who Am I?" survived, using several tree branches to break his fall. After escaping from the hitmen, he and Christine crack a secret code written on a matchbook found on one of the dead operatives, which leads them to Rotterdam, Netherlands. "Who Am I?" and Christine bid Yuki farewell and head for Rotterdam to find more answers to his identity.

In Rotterdam, "Who Am I?" discovers that Christine is actually an undercover CIA agent. Not knowing who to trust, he sneaks into the Willemswerf alone, where he discovers the masterminds behind the kidnapping of the scientists. It is revealed that Morgan and Gen. Sherman are about to sell the extraterrestrial compound to a powerful mafia leader. While waiting for the online transaction to finish, the three men leave the conference room for a coffee break - giving "Who Am I?" time to sneak in and steal the disc containing the compound information. He also cancels the transaction and sends the money to a children's organization, infuriating the mafia leader. While escaping from the building, "Who Am I?" confronts and defeats Morgan, who attempted to gun him down. He then faces a Muay Thai hitman (David Leong) and a Taekwondo hitman (Ron Smoorenburg) on the rooftop before losing the disc, which is recovered by Morgan on the ground floor. "Who Am I?" regroups with Christine, who sends an entire CIA squad to surround the Erasmus Bridge and corner Morgan. Following the mission, "Who Am I?" throws the disc off the bridge and tells Christine he will return to Africa.

What Just Happened (2008)

What Just Happened is a satirical comedy-drama directed by Barry Levinson starring Robert De Niro.

What Just Happened is an independent film, produced by 2929 Productions, Art Linson Productions and Tribeca Productions, and was released on October 17, 2008.

The film is based on the book, What Just Happened? Bitter Hollywood Tales from the Front Line, by Art Linson, about his experiences as a producer in Hollywood.[2]

This film was shown at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday, May 25, 2008.

Ben (Robert De Niro), a Hollywood producer, witnesses a poor test screening for his new film, Fiercely, mostly caused by the fact that its ending features its main character (played by Sean Penn, who plays himself elsewhere in the film) being graphically shot dead, along with his pet dog.

Ben and his maverick British director, Jeremy Brunell (Michael Wincott), drawing a comparison to Amores Perros, plead their case to studio executive Lou Tarnow (Catherine Keener). She insinuates that the shots of the dog's killing were planted only as a "bargaining chip" (i.e, not intended for the final cut, but simply to make it easier to negotiate retention of other problematic scenes), and threatens to pull it from Cannes and take over editing unless at least the dog's death is removed. Jeremy adamantly refuses, throwing a tantrum.

Adding to Ben's problems, he is having trouble making a clean break from Kelly, his second wife, and Bruce Willis is refusing to shave the large, thick beard that he has grown, which will result in the studio pulling the plug on their new project, and in turn put a certain end to Ben's career. Any attempt to reason with Willis inevitably meets a violent, foul-mouthed response.

The situation with Fiercely is eventually remedied when Jeremy relents and re-edits the final shots to have the dog running up to Penn's character after Penn is fatally wounded instead of before, and ending without the dog being harmed. Another problem arises when Ben discovers that his wife is also having sexual relations with Scott Solomon, a married screenwriter who Ben has previously worked with. Scott has a screenplay that he's trying to get off the ground, to which Brad Pitt later becomes attached. Ben tries to get Willis's agent, Dick Bell, to reason with him and get the beard removed, but his efforts only get Bell fired. Nonetheless, Willis does eventually shave his beard off, and the film goes ahead.

A week later, Ben, Lou and Jeremy attend Cannes, hopeful that they might take a Palme D'Or award. Unfortunately, Jeremy has re-edited the film again without the knowledge of Ben or Lou, and the third version of the ending not only features Penn's character and the dog being killed, but is made even more violent with the addition of nearly a full minute of bullets being shot into their bodies. However, the response is not entirely negative, and despite abuse being shouted by some audience members, many eagerly applaud the final version of the film, as does Penn (although any chance of a Palme d'Or is now obviously gone). Lou on the other hand is not impressed, and immediately flies out of Cannes on the studio's private jet, leaving Ben stranded in France.

Ben eventually does make it back home, in time for a photo-shoot of Hollywood's top thirty producers with Vanity Fair, although after the magazine's publishers hear about the debacle in Cannes Ben is relegated to the far edge of the photo, meaning he won't be on the magazine's cover and will be barely noticeable in the larger inside version. Ben's voice-over, as the film ends, comments that this represents him nearly, but not quite being pushed out of Hollywood.

During the film's postscript as narrated by Ben, he reveals that Fiercely turned out to be a major blockbuster but its success doesn't stop Jeremy from having a run-in with the law. Emotionally unstable Jeremy is revealed to be holding drugs in his suitcase and he's stopped at the airport, which he is sentenced to rehab. But Jeremy, according to Ben, is considering several offers to direct other projects after Fiercely's success and Ben would work with him again. Lou Tarnow becomes the recipient of a major award for ushering in maverick talent like Jeremy and putting out successful, cutting edge material although this previously contradicts her dislike of Jeremy's work. Meanwhile, Brad Pitt dropped out of the film project that was written by Scott, who falls into a deep depression and starts drinking heavily while living with Ben's ex-wife. He is subsequently kicked out for this behavior. Dick Bell, on the other hand, still suffers from excruciating stress-induced stomach pain that prompts him to pull over to the side of the road while on a date.
